INTRODUCTION: Fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceuticals undergo quality control testing for residual phase-transfer-catalyst content. The almost universally used quality-control test is a silica plate spot-test comparison of the radiopharmaceutical beside a 50-ppm standard. Once developed by staining, the radiopharmaceutical spot must be of equal or less intensity to pass the test. There is currently a need for a quantitative, inexpensive, and less subjective quality control method that allows the automatic incorporation of the acquired measurement directly into electronic batch reports.

An open circuit indirect calorimeter was used to measure resting energy expenditure in febrile infants. Twelve infants admitted to hospital with fever (axillary temperature 37.5 degrees C) were studied on admission and then again at the same time of day and in similar environmental conditions after the fever had resolved. The possible structural changes of the calmodulin-trifluoperazine (TFP) complex caused by Ca2+ binding have been analyzed by microcalorimetric titrations. Titrations of calmodulin with Ca2+ in the presence of 8-fold molar excess TFP have been made both in the absence and presence of Mg2+, at pH 7.0, and at 5, 15, and 25 degrees C.
