Time to Surgery Affects Return to Work Rates for Workers' Compensation Patients With Single-Level Lumbar Disk Herniation.

The optimal timing of lumbar diskectomy in patients with lumbar disk herniation and radiculopathy has not been studied in the workers' compensation (WC) population. A total of 10,592 patients received lost-work compensation from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation for a lumbar disk herniation between 2005 and 2012. The primary outcome was whether subjects return to work (RTW). To determine the impact time to surgery had on RTW status, the authors performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis. They compared other secondary outcomes using chi-square and t tests. The authors identifi

Specificity of training in cardiac rehabilitation to facilitate a patient's return to strenuous work following aortic valve replacement.

A 30-year-old male roughneck worker on an oil rig underwent aortic valve replacement and subsequently enrolled in the Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program. He expressed a strong desire to return to his physically demanding job. Based on his unique job requirements, CR staff designed and implemented comprehensive tests and a 5-week specific physical training program that included 6 exercises simulating his job functions. The selected exercises are not typically prescribed in traditional CR programs but mimicked the muscular strength/endurance req

Return to Work After Adjuvant Chemotherapy for Colon Cancer: A Retrospective Study With Exploratory Occupational Analysis.

Background Return to work is an important survivorship outcome for working-age cancer survivors. Still, occupational trajectories after adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer are not always systematically documented in routine oncology care. This study aimed to describe documented occupational trajectories after adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer and to explore occupation-level physical demand and break/restroom autonomy as descriptive occupational dimensions. Methods This single-centre retrospective observational study was based exclusively on routinely collected clinical records. Working

Return to Work After Lower Limb Amputation: A Critical Challenge in Jordan's Socioeconomic and Healthcare Context.

BACKGROUND: After lower limb amputation (LLA), return to work (RTW) is an essential step, signifying the economic stability of people with amputation, psychological recovery, and social reintegration. While RTW is well-studied in high-income countries, the experiences of people with amputation in low- and middle-income countries like Jordan remain poorly characterized within contexts of prominent systemic barriers. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to quantify the RTW rate after LLA in Jordan and identify the facilitators and barriers to vocational reintegration. METHODS: In a cross-sectional stud

Return-to-work for people living with long COVID: A scoping review of interventions and recommendations.

INTRODUCTION: Long COVID is characterized by the presence of new onset or persistent symptoms 3 months after a suspected or confirmed history of SARS-CoV-2 infection. It is a complex and multi-faceted condition that affects people in different ways. Long COVID affects individuals' labour market participation. While some cannot work, others may return to work (RTW) in a limited capacity. Determining what rehabilitation or related strategies are safe and effective for facilitating RTW is necessary. OBJECTIVES: To synthesize evidence on RTW interventions for people living with Long COVID and to

Return to work and factors influencing recovery after endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for hypothalamic and pituitary tumors.

This study investigated the return-to-work (RTW) rates and associated factors following endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (eTSS) among patients with pituitary and hypothalamic tumors in Japan. The primary research question aimed to determine the variables affecting early RTW post-surgery. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 44 preoperatively employed patients who underwent eTSS at a single center between April 2018 and January 2025. Clinical data, including demographics, tumor characteristics, comorbidities, and perioperative variables, were extracted from the medical records. The prima

Awake Surgery for Right Frontal Lobe Glioma: Preserving Emotional Recognition and Facilitating Early Return to Work.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Many glioma patients struggle to return to work after surgery because of higher brain dysfunction. Although the right frontal lobe has historically been considered functionally silent, reports of performing awake surgery to evaluate higher brain functions in patients with tumors in this area have increased. We present two cases of patients who underwent awake surgery for malignant glioma in the right frontal lobe to preserve emotional recognition and facilitate an early return to work. CASE REPORT: Case 1 was a 48-year-old right-handed woman employed as a nursery school teache
