Lethal femoral-facial syndrome: a case with unusual manifestations.

The femoral-facial syndrome is a very rare syndrome of uncertain inheritance comprising hypoplastic femora, microretrognathia, and a peculiar facies. We report an additional observation detected by ultrasound at 25 weeks and diagnosed at birth. In addition to the malformations usually described in this syndrome, there were heterotopias of the brain, partial agenesis of the corpus callosum, bilobed lungs, intestinal malrotation, and vertebral segmentation defects.

The relation between nasorespiratory function and dentofacial morphology: a review.

It is commonly assumed that nasorespiratory function can exert a dramatic effect upon the development of the dentofacial complex. Specifically, it has been stated that chronic nasal obstruction leads to mouth breathing, which causes altered tongue and mandibular positions. If this occurs during a period of active growth, the outcome is development of the "adenoid facies" (dentofacial morphology). Such patients characteristically manifest a vertically long lower third facial height, narrow alar bases, lip incompetence, a long and narrow maxillary arch, and a greater than normal mandibular plane

A variant or a "new" postaxial acrofacial dysostosis syndrome.

In this paper, we report a boy with remarkable phenotype and noteworthy radiographic abnormalities. He presented with distinctive facies, mesomelic shortening and asymmetry of the extremities, symmetrical ulnar and fibular ray absence in the hands and feet, with unique hypoplastic/dysplastic radiographic abnormalities. His mental development was normal. We believe that he represents a previously unreported form of the postaxial acrofacial dysostosis syndrome.

Marden-Walker syndrome in two siblings.

Two siblings are reported who have features of the Marden-Walker syndrome. They have congenital joint contractures, camptodactyly, talipes equinovarus, abnormal facies, global delay in developmental milestones, hypotonia and failure to thrive. About 20 cases have been reported in the world literature. A summary of some of the cases is presented. This syndrome appears to be an autosomal recessive trait in some families.

[Di George's syndrome with neutropenia in an adult patient].

The clinical data of a thirty-nine old inpatient woman are reported, whose main complaints were non-operable vulvo-vaginal condylomata, recurrent bacterial infections, complicated chickenpox and prominent lymphopenia. The peculiar facies get us to suggest the diagnosis of a case of the Di George syndrome in an adult patient. Was probably the associated neutropenia congenital and combined with immunodeficiency syndrome?

A new autosomal dominant craniofacial deafness syndrome.

A Jewish family is reported in which the proband and her father had congenital hearing loss and unusual facies consisting of facial asymmetry, temporal alopecia with frontal bossing, a broad nasal root and small nasal alae. In addition, both were born with a short frenulum of the tongue. We believe these findings represent a new autosomal dominant deafness syndrome with distinct craniofacial features.

Haber's syndrome. Report of a new family.

Three Japanese brothers had the rosacea-like facies and multiple intraepidermal epitheliomas that characterize Haber's syndrome. They also had xerosis of the lower extremities. The facial lesions were dry, warm, erythematous, and indurated, with enlarged follicular orifices and telangiectasia. One patient had disturbing "burning" of the face, which was relieved by short courses of steroid therapy that were given for systemic effects.

Setleis bitemporal "forceps marks" syndrome and its pathogenesis: a case report.

Setleis bitemporal "forceps marks" syndrome is characterized by "forceps marks" and a peculiar facies. The syndrome has previously been reported mainly in the Puerto Rican population. We describe here a Japanese boy with the syndrome. In addition, the hypothesis is presented that the Setleis syndrome may result from an insufficient migration of neural crest cells into the frontonasal process and the first branchial arch.

The facio-audio-symphalangism syndrome in a four generation family with a nonsense mutation in the NOG-gene.

We report a four generation family with features of the facio-audio-symphalangism syndrome. This condition is characterized by proximal symphalangism, conductive hearing loss due to stapes fixation and a distinctive facies. A novel nonsense mutation in the NOG gene on chromosome 17q22 was identified in the patients. The variable expression and progressive nature of the syndrome is well illustrated by this family. The role of Noggin as the causative factor of symphalangism is discussed.

[Lipoid dermatoarthritis (multicentric reticulohistiocytosis) (author's transl)].

The case of a 10-year-old girl with an infrequently observed lipid dermatoarthritis is reported. This is a systemic disease of unknown etiology characterized by a nodular eruption of the skin, mucosa and synovia, resulting in destructive arthritis and disfigurement of the facies. Biopsy of a nodule, whether from skin or synovia, discloses a cellular infiltrate consisting of histiocytes and multinucleated giant cells with lipid inclusions. No effective treatment is known.

Influence of trough currents on Permian reef-shoal belts and reef-capping dolomite reservoirs, Damaoping Block, Sichuan Basin, China.

Large Late Permian reef-shoal mounds and supergiant gas fields have been identified along the margin of the Kaijiang-Liangping trough on the Upper Yangtze Platform. However, the underlying mechanisms of their concentration along the trough margin remain unclear. Herein, the Damaoping Block at the eastern trough end is used as a case study to examine how trough currents influence the development of reef-shoal mounds and reef-cap reservoir distribution. Results show that enhanced seismic facies analysis can identify individual reef-shoal mounds in low-amplitude reef-shoal zones and map small-sca

Cardiac Involvement and TBCK -Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder: Is It a New Feature of This Condition?

TBCK (TBC1 Domain-Containing Kinase) encodes a protein playing a role in actin organization and cell growth/proliferation via the mTOR signaling pathway. Deleterious biallelic TBCK variants cause Hypotonia, infantile, with psychomotor retardation and characteristic facies 3. We report on three affected sibs, also displaying cardiac malformations. The parents, a consanguineous couple of first cousins, were referred to schedule invasive diagnosis for their sixth pregnancy. They were known to carry the pathogenic c.1532G>A TBCK variant. The variant was originally identified in homozygosity in the

Mauriac Syndrome: A Rare Condition With Cushingoid Feature and Hepatomegaly in Poorly Controlled Diabetes Mellitus Type 1.

Hepatic glycogenosis (HG) is a rare complication of poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), in which glycogen accumulates in the hepatocytes. It can be caused by excessive insulin doses or recurrent ketoacidosis episodes. Mauriac's syndrome is a rare disease that includes short stature, growth maturation delay, dyslipidemia, moon facies, protuberant abdomen, and hepatomegaly with transaminase elevation. It is clinically classified into two varieties based on the presence or absence of obesity and cushingoid appearance. Clinical, laboratory, and histological abnormalities are reversi

Broadening the ocular phenotypic spectrum of ultra-rare BRPF1 variants: report of two cases.

INTRODUCTION: BRPF1 gene on 3p26-p25 encodes a protein involved in epigenetic regulation, through interaction with histone H3 lysine acetyltransferases KAT6A and KAT6B of the MYST family. Heterozygous pathogenic variants in BRPF1 gene are associated with Intellectual Developmental Disorder with Dysmorphic Facies and Ptosis (IDDDFP), characterized by global developmental delay, intellectual disability, language delay, and dysmorphic facial features. The reported ocular involvement includes strabismus, amblyopia, and refraction errors. This report describes a novel ocular finding in patients aff

Clinical Utility of a Unique Genome-Wide DNA Methylation Signature for KMT2A-Related Syndrome.

Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome (WDSTS) is a Mendelian syndromic intellectual disability (ID) condition associated with hypertrichosis cubiti, short stature, and characteristic facies caused by pathogenic variants in the KMT2A gene. Clinical features can be inconclusive in mild and unusual WDSTS presentations with variable ID (mild to severe), facies (typical or not) and other associated malformations (bone, cerebral, renal, cardiac and ophthalmological anomalies). Interpretation and classification of rare KMT2A variants can be challenging. A genome-wide DNA methylation episignature for KMT2A-relat

[Nosologic evaluation of Noonan syndrome and description of nine cases].

Noonan syndrome was first described over 20 years ago by Noonan and Ehmke. They defined a specific group of nine patients with valvular pulmonary stenosis who, in addition, had short stature, mild mental retardation, hypertelorism and unusual facies. The incidence of Noonan syndrome has been estimated to be between 1 in 1000 and 1 in 2500 live births. The primary biochemical defect in Noonan's syndrome is unknown. We analyzed 9 patients (5 males and 4 females) in an age range of 6 months to 10 years and 3 months with Noonan syndrome. Patients were diagnosed as having the syndrome if they had c

Geleophysic dysplasia: a storage disorder affecting the skin, bone, liver, heart, and trachea.

Geleophysic dysplasia is characterized by typical facies ("happy natured"), small hands and feet, short stature, hepatomegaly, and progressive cardiac disease. We describe five patients (two of whom are siblings) with this disorder and document its variable expressivity. The facies were strikingly similar with small nose, anteverted nostrils, broad nasal bridge, and long thin upper lip with flat and long philtrum. Behavior, development, and intelligence were normal. Growth delay was noticed during infancy, and the two patients who completed normal puberty had marked short stature (140 and 150
