Communities for healthy living (CHL) - A family-centered childhood obesity prevention program integrated into Head Start services: Study protocol for a pragmatic cluster randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Childhood obesity is highly prevalent and carries substantial health consequences. Childhood obesity interventions have had mixed results, which may be partially explained by the absence of theory that incorporates broader family context and methods that address implementation challenges in low-resource settings. Communities for Healthy Living (CHL) is an obesity prevention program for Head Start preschools designed with careful focus on theory and implementation. This protocol paper outlines the design, content, implementation, and evaluation of CHL. METHODS/DESIGN: CHL integrate

Multi-method approaches to develop and refine a tobacco cessation workflow within a federally qualified health center.

BACKGROUND: The incorporation of implementation science approaches into tobacco control program delivery remains limited. Programs developed using these approaches, including co-creation, are often more feasible and sustainable, as they are designed to consider the operational and cultural context of an organization. This study utilized multiple implementation science approaches to co-create a tobacco cessation workflow within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), where tobacco use is disproportionately higher than the national average. METHODS: In this study we conducted six structured

Special report: implementing immediate postpartum LARC in Florida.

Women are often highly motivated to obtain contraception during the immediate postpartum period. However, not all women receive contraception, particularly long-acting reversible contraceptive methods, during this time. One barrier to immediate postpartum contraception is the cost of placing long-acting reversible contraceptives, because such devices have a large upfront cost and historically could not be charged separately from the global delivery fee. In 2017, Florida Medicaid unbundled the fee for the long-acting reversible contraceptive device and insertion from the Diagnosis Related Group

A scoping review on implementation processes and outcomes of models of care for low back pain in primary healthcare.

BACKGROUND: To address the societal burden of low back pain (LBP), several health systems have adopted Models of Care (MoCs). These evidence-informed models aim for consistent care and outcomes. However, real-world applications vary, with each setting presenting unique challenges and nuances in the primary healthcare landscape. This scoping review aims to synthesize the available evidence regarding the use of implementation theories, models or frameworks, context-specific factors, implementation strategies and outcomes reported in MoCs targeting LBP in primary healthcare. Envisioning a Multidisciplinary HBV Cure Research Agenda.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: We examine the current understanding of the multidisciplinary aspects of hepatitis B cure research, such as socio-behavioral sciences, ethics, community engagement, and translational and implementation science. RECENT FINDINGS: The peer-reviewed literature on the multi-disciplinary aspects of HBV cure research is gradually expanding, although several areas still require attention. These deficiencies include: the acceptability of HBV treatment discontinuations, HBV-related stigma, the impact of co-infections (e.g., HIV), and the translation of discoveries to resource-limited

The Tangible Benefits of Disability and Accessibility Awareness in Evolutionary Biology College Courses Centered in Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is one method for implementing inclusive education that can have tangible benefits for all learners, increasing educational accessibility. Furthermore, UDL can be used as a vehicle to train majority nondisabled students in methods of inclusive education. We implemented an inclusive education pedagogical framework centered in UDL and tasked undergraduate evolutionary biology students with creating digital science media products throughout semester-long science communication projects. Our goal was to assess student perceptions of accessibility and disability,

Interaction of contextual, setting and implementation factors on a podoconiosis intervention in Rural Ethiopia: Results from a qualitative study.

Social science perspectives enable more holistic approaches to the evaluation of health interventions. Balance between context, setting and implementation is key to the sustainable impact of health interventions. However, little is known about how the implementation of interventions against Neglected Tropical Diseases interacts with context and settings, or the influence of the interaction on intervention outcomes. We conducted a qualitative evaluation of a podoconiosis intervention in Northwestern Ethiopia, and collected data on intervention implementation, context, setting and relations amon

Conducting rigorous implementation evaluations in real word settings: lessons from a consensus approach to perioperative pathway implementation for elective surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Single site quasi-experimental implementation studies provide opportunities to learn about implementation in context. There is limited guidance on how to best utilise these studies to maximise opportunities for learning at scale. This study evaluated the use of a consensus process to develop and implement standardised perioperative pathways, and aimed to provide practical insights on conducting rigorous, theory-informed evaluations that can generate transferable insights for implementation science. METHODS: A multi-method quasi-experimental study was conducted in a private hospi

Low-Intensity Outreach to Increase Uptake of HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Among Patients with Sexually Transmitted Infections.

We piloted a low-intensity outreach intervention to increase linkage to PrEP care among HIV-uninfected individuals with rectal sexually transmitted infections or syphilis. We sent a secure email message or letter with information about accessing PrEP. Of those sent an email, 12.4% were linked to PrEP care; linkage differed by race/ethnicity, ranging from 0% of Black individuals to 32% of Hispanic individuals (P = 0.019). No individuals sent letters were linked to PrEP care. A one-time secure email to high-risk patients is feasible to increase linkage to PrEP care. Studies are needed to evaluat

De-implementation of low value castration for men with prostate cancer: protocol for a theory-based, mixed methods approach to minimizing low value androgen deprivation therapy (DeADT).

BACKGROUND: Men with prostate cancer are often castrated with long-acting injectable drugs termed androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Although many benefit, ADT is also used in patients with little or nothing to gain. The best ways to stop this practice are unknown, and range from blunt pharmacy restrictions to informed decision-making. This study will refine and pilot two different de-implementation strategies for reducing ADT use among those unlikely to benefit in preparation for a comparative effectiveness trial. METHODS/DESIGN: This innovative mixed methods research program has three aims
