Leiomyoma with Bizarre Nuclei (Symplastic Leiomyoma) in the Paratubal Cyst Wall: Report of a Rare Case.

Leiomyoma is a benign mesenchymal tumor that develops from smooth muscle cells. It can present in various histological variants. Leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei is an infrequent variant of uterine smooth muscle neoplasm. It is characterized by focally or diffusely distributed bizarre cells on the background of a typical leiomyoma. These bizarre cells are large, multinucleated, or multilobulated and have an eosinophilic cytoplasm. Even though leiomyomas with bizarre nuclei display benign clinical behavior, their differential diagnosis from leiomyosarcoma can sometimes be difficult. Leiomyoma has

Primary intracranial intraventricular leiomyoma: a literature review.

Leiomyomas, benign tumors of well-differentiated smooth muscle and vascular collagenous tissue, usually occur in the uterus but can develop wherever smooth muscle is present. Primary intracranial leiomyomas are rare tumors. We present the case of a 40-year-old woman with a primary intraventricular leiomyoma. She consulted us for headache, dizziness, and black spots in her vision. Magnetic resonance images (MRI) disclosed a mass rooted in the posterior septum pellucidum. The tumor was totally excised by the senior author with no residual seen on intraoperative MRI. Pathological examination show

Spontaneous reproductive pathology in female guinea pigs.

Reproductive pathology of domestic guinea pigs is underreported to date. To provide a comprehensive review of uterine disease in guinea pigs, we performed a retrospective study of the pathology archives of the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine. By histology, 13 of 37 uterine lesions in 23 animals were neoplastic; the other 24 nonneoplastic lesions included cystic endometrial hyperplasia (16 of 24), endometrial hemorrhage (3 of 24), pyometra (2 of 24), polyp (2 of 24), and mucometra (1 of 24). The most common guinea pig uterine neoplasms were uterine leiomyomas (6 of 13),

Intramuscular hemangioma of the masseter muscle- a case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION: Intramuscular hemangioma, is a distinctive type of vascular tumor occurring within the skeletal muscle. Most IMH are located in the lower extremity, particularly in the muscles of the thigh and rarely in head and neck region. PRESENTATION OF CASE: 35 years old male reported with a swelling in the left cheek region since 3 years. Clinical and radiological evaluation leads to the diagnosis of Intramuscular hemangioma. Surgical excision was performed and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. DISCUSSION: Hemangiomas of skeletal muscle represent 0.8% of all benign vascular neoplas

Surgical Resection and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction of a Rapidly Progressive Desmoid Tumor: A Case Report.

Desmoid tumors (DTs) are rare, locally invasive soft tissue neoplasms characterized by fibroblastic proliferation and a lack of metastatic potential. Despite their histologically benign nature, their infiltrative behavior and unpredictable progression present significant therapeutic challenges, particularly when located in the abdominal wall, where resection and reconstruction may be necessary. We present the case of a 37-year-old woman with a rapidly enlarging, painful mass in the right rectus abdominis muscle. Imaging and biopsy confirmed desmoid-type fibromatosis. After a period of surveill

Malignant Cutaneous Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour with Rhabdomyosarcomatous Differentiation (Triton Tumour) in a Domestic Cat.

Divergent differentiation is encountered frequently within human malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs). The new component is often a rhabdomyosarcoma, but in animals this specific form of divergent differentiation within MPNSTs has only been reported once (in a dog). Incisional wedge biopsy of a locally extensive, ventral abdominal wall mass, which extended from the dermis to the subcutis, from a 12-year-old female domestic shorthaired cat, was performed. The tissue was examined with routine haematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemical methods. A malignant neoplasm with

Primary pleural leiomyosarcoma with rapid progression and fatal outcome: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Leiomyosarcomas are neoplasms of smooth muscles that most commonly arise from the uterus, gastrointestinal tract, or soft tissue. Primary pleural leiomyosarcoma is extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, only nine cases have been published to date. Because of the rarity of pleural leiomyosarcoma and its similarity (clinical and histological) to other pleural neoplasms, particularly sarcomatous mesothelioma, diagnosis is often difficult. CASE PRESENTATION: A 58-year-old North African man was admitted with complaints of dyspnea and chest pain to our hospital. Chest computed

The facial nerve in the presence of a head and neck neoplasm: assessment and outcome after surgical management.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The face is the mirror of personality. Facial expression is the most important part of verbal and nonverbal communication. Patients with head and neck neoplasm and facial palsy are more stigmatized by the latter than by the tumor itself. Facial nerve reconstruction in such a patient is a great challenge. This review gives an overview of the assessment of facial palsy, surgical reconstruction, and postoperative treatment. RECENT FINDINGS: MRI, CT, and electromyography are indispensable tools in the assessment of preoperative facial palsy in patients with head and neck neopla

Primary NTRK-rearranged Spindle Cell Neoplasm of the Lung: A Clinicopathologic and Molecular Analysis of 3 Cases.

Three cases of primary NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasm of the lung with resemblance to those described in the somatic soft tissues are presented. The patients are 2 males and 1 female with age at presentation ranging from 31 to 45 years (mean, 36 y). All the 3 tumors were discovered incidentally during physical examinations. None of the patients had any prior history of mesenchymal neoplasms anywhere else. Computed tomography revealed intrapulmonary mass located in the right upper lobe, left upper lobe, and left lower lobe, respectively. All the patients underwent lobectomy. Grossly, the

Solitary Myofibroma of the Nasal Septum: A Rare Clinical Entity.

Myofibromas are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that primarily affect infants and young children, most commonly arising in the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle, or bone. These tumors present with a broad clinical spectrum, ranging from self-limiting lesions to disseminated and fatal cases. In adults, the solitary form is encountered more frequently than the multicentric type. Although myofibromas may occur in the oral region of the head and neck, isolated cases involving the nasal septum are exceedingly rare. Here, we describe a case of solitary adult-onset myofibroma of the nasal septum that was

Epstein-Barr Virus-Associated Smooth Muscle Tumor of the Bronchus After Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated smooth muscle tumors (SMTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that typically develop in patients with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency and after solid organ transplantation. However, their occurrence after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has rarely been reported. Furthermore, EBV-SMTs appear as multifocal tumors that can be manifested in a range of anatomic locations. Here, we present a case of successful excision of an EBV-SMT in the proximal bronchus by complex segmentectomy after partial hepatectomy for a liver lesion. Given the recurrence ris

Intratesticular Leiomyoma: Lessons Learned From a Case Report and Another Contribution to Enlarge a Small World Series.

Leiomyomas are benign, slow-growing, mesenchymal neoplasms that originate from smooth muscle. We report a case of a 44-year-old man presented with an asymptomatic left scrotal mass. Scrotal ultrasonography (US) showed a 3.9 cm well-limited, hypoechoic intratesticular mass. The patient underwent a radical left orchiectomy and histologic findings revealed an intratesticular leiomyoma. To our best knowledge, so far, this is the 19th case of intratesticular leiomyoma to be reported in the literature. Furthermore, intraoperative frozen section examination should have been part of the management arm

Renal Angiomyolipoma: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Angiomyolipomas (AMLs) are the most common benign renal tumours. Most of these neoplasms are found incidentally on imaging. However, symptomatic presentation does exist. Renal AMLs are typically composed of smooth muscle, blood vessels, and adipose tissue. Because of the abundant fat tissue, they give a characteristic appearance on imaging and are therefore easily diagnosed. However, sometimes they contain too little fat to be detected. This increases the difficulty in differentiating them from renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Management of AML is based on clinical presentation and should be indivi

An unusual type of myeloid sarcoma localization following myelofibrosis: A case report and literature review.

Myeloid Sarcoma (MS) is a rare malignancy that can present as an isolated disease or more frequently in association with or following acute myeloid leukemia or other myeloid neoplasms and rarely following myelofibrosis. Since molecular pathogenesis and prognostic factors of MS are not well understood, its prognosis remains poor even in the era of novel agents and target therapies. We report the case of a patient with MS following myelofibrosis with multiple subcutaneous, cutaneous and muscle localizations; the latter has been reported in the literature as anecdotal. In this way we aimed to enh

Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is a rare autoimmune disorder of the neuromuscular junction. LEMS can be associated with a variety of neoplasms. Patients present with proximal muscle weakness and fatigability, often combined with areflexia. Only 5% of reported cases are children. We report a case of 11-year old boy with non-neoplastic Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome. Repetitive nerve stimulation test showed 83% increment after maximal voluntary contraction, presence of antibodies against voltage-gated calcium channels confirmed the diagnosis. The boy responded well to immunosuppress

Bilateral recurrent adult rhabdomyomas of the pharyngeal wall.

Adult rhabdomyomas of the head and neck are uncommon benign skeletal muscle tumors. Only a few cases occurring in the pharyngeal wall have been described in the world literature. We present a case of recurrent bilateral rhabdomyomas in the pharynx and discuss the clinicopathological features of this lesion, comparing it to those of other neoplasms from which it must be differentiated. To our knowledge, bilaterality of this type of lesion has not been described previously. Although adult rhabdomyomas have a distinct histology, they often are mistaken for a variety of other lesions, particularly

Vulvar Leiomyoma in a young woman: A case report of a rare benign soft tissue tumor from Woldia, Ethiopia.

Vulvar Leiomyoma is an extremely rare benign tumor of smooth muscle origin, accounting for a small fraction of Vulvar neoplasms. It often mimics Bartholin's cyst or other soft tissue masses, posing diagnostic challenges. We present a case of a 19-year-old unmarried woman with a Vulvar mass. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of Vulvar Leiomyoma with no evidence of malignancy. Vulvar leiomyoma's should be considered in the differential diagnosis of Vulvar masses. Accurate diagnosis requires histopathological analysis. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice. Thi

An Unusually-Large Adult Rhabdomyoma of the Larynx in an Elderly Female: A Rare Case of Airway Obstruction and Diagnostic Challenges.

Adult rhabdomyoma is a rare benign tumor of striated muscle origin, predominantly occurring in the head and neck region of middle-aged males. Herein, we present a unique case of a 78 year-old woman with a 7.3 × 3.8 × 5.4 cm supraglottic rhabdomyoma causing progressive dysphagia, dysphonia, and life-threatening airway obstruction over 5 to 7 years. Despite its benign histology, the tumor's size and location necessitated emergent airway stabilization and partial resection. Seminal Vesicle Leiomyoma Mimicking Extra-prostatic Extension of Prostatic Adenocarcinoma.

Leiomyomas are common smooth muscle neoplasms; however, leiomyomas of the seminal vesicles are extremely rare. We report a case of seminal vesicle leiomyoma in a 55-year-old African American male who underwent robot assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) for Gleason 8 (4 + 4) adenocarcinoma. An incidental nodule arising from the left seminal vesicle was discovered during surgery, complicating the surgical dissection and suggesting extra-prostatic extension. The histologic findings in this case raised the possibility that this seminal vesicle leiomyoma may have arisen from a remnant of the
