Mat Pilates and aquatic aerobic exercises for women with fibromyalgia: a protocol for a randomised controlled blind study.

INTRODUCTION: Physical exercises have been recommended to improve the overall well-being of patients with fibromyalgia, with the main objective of repairing the effects of lack of physical conditioning and of improving the symptoms, especially pain and fatigue. Although widely recommended and widely known, few studies support the use of Pilates as an effective method in improving the symptoms of the disease, comparing it with other well-founded exercise modalities. This protocol was developed to describe the design of a randomised controlled study with a blind evaluator that evaluates the effe

Breast cancer-related lymphedema: a randomized controlled pilot and feasibility study.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic lymphedema occurs frequently in breast cancer patients and is associated with significant morbidity and reduced quality-of-life. In this pilot study, the authors (1) addressed whether conducting a larger randomized controlled trial of aqua lymphatic therapy (ALT) would be feasible and (2) estimated the extent to which ALT combined with home-based exercise compared with home-based exercise alone would reduce arm disability in patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema. DESIGN: Twenty-five women with breast cancer-related lymphedema were randomized to either ALT in additi

The effects of aquatic therapy combined with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on proprioception and gait speed in older adults with knee osteoarthritis: an eight-week randomized sham-controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent condition among older adults, leading to impaired proprioception and reduced gait speed, which compromise mobility and quality of life. While aquatic therapy and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have individually shown potential for enhancing motor and sensory functions, their combined effects are not well understood. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the combined effects of aquatic therapy and tDCS on knee proprioception and gait speed in older women with KOA. METHODS: A randomized, triple-blind, parallel-group, sham-c

Evaluation of the Comparative Efficacy of Aquatherapy Versus Conventional Physiotherapy on Motor Function and Psychosocial Well-Being in Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) undergoing chemotherapy have limited access to rehabilitation support. While rehabilitation on the basis of physiotherapy has been found to enhance psychosocial well-being and motor performance, a viable substitute for this can be aquatherapy. However, no trials have currently evaluated the effectiveness of aquatherapy in this population. OBJECTIVE: We aim to evaluate the comparative efficacy of aquatherapy versus conventional physiotherapy on the motor function and psychosocial well-being of children with ALL. METHODS: We will con

Considerations for Systemic and Topical Treatment of Morganella morganii Septicemia Arising from Maggot Infestation.

INTRODUCTION: Live maggot infestation (myiasis) of wounds can present a host of ailments. Loosely associated with maggot excreta, Morganella morganii is a widespread, gram-negative rod bacterium commonly found in the intestinal tracts of humans. M morganii has been observed as being pathogenic, particularly in nosocomial and postoperative environments, as well as in immunosuppressed and elderly populations. CASE REPORT: Herein, the authors present a rare, previously unreported case of M morganii septicemia (as confirmed by positive blood culture), secondary to myiasis of the lower extremities

Recovery of Spinal Walking in Paraplegic Dogs Using Physiotherapy and Supportive Devices to Maintain the Standing Position.

Paraplegic patients have always been ideal candidates for physiotherapy due to their body's inability to recover on its own. Regardless of the cause that led to the onset of paraplegia (traumatic or degenerative), physiotherapy helps these patients with devices and methods designed to restore the proper functioning of their motility, as well as their quality of life. A total of 60 paraplegic dogs without deep pain in the hindlimbs caused by intervertebral disc extrusion or thoracolumbar fractures underwent physiotherapy sessions: manual therapy (massage), electrostimulation (10-20 min with pos

Short-term effects of arm baths on blood pressure in participants with arterial hypertension - a randomized crossover study.

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is the predominant risk factor for premature cardiovascular disease, and contributes to heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and stroke. As of recently, scientists began to systematically investigate the vast physiological potential of hydrotherapy in individuals with cardiovascular disease. Hot baths in particular have been shown to transiently reduce arterial stiffness and to exert vasodilatory effects. Potentially beneficial in patients with uncontrolled hypertension, hot arm baths (HAB) have rarely been put to the test in randomized-controlled trials. METHODS: B
