Air pollution increases the risk of pulmonary embolism: a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Air pollution can lead to many cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, but the impact of air pollution on pulmonary embolism is still uncertain. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the relationship between air pollution and pulmonary embolism. CONTENT: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochran Library for citations on air pollutants (carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and particulate matter) and pulmonary embolism. A total of nine citations met the inclusion criteria. There is no evidence of bias. CO, SO2, PM10 and PM2.5 had no significa

Spectroscopic evidence on the acetonitrile cleavage at mild condition.

Among the present numerous chemical libraries, acetonitrile is the one of famous common organic solvents widely used in modern science and industry. Since it has been known as very stable and inert solvent, there has been little doubt on its catalytic decomposition to cyanide in mild condition. In this report, I provide new evidence on the catalytic decomposition of acetonitrile at conventional gold surfaces without any electrochemical treatment. Various surface enhanced Raman spectroscopic (SERS) measurements on high-purity acetonitrile reveal that the observed anomalous peak originates from

Evolution of Cyclophotocoagulation.

Cyclodestructive techniques have been a treatment option for refractory glaucoma since its first use in the 1930s. Over the past nine decades, cyclodestruction has advanced from the initial cyclodiathermy to micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) which is the current treatment available. Complications associated with cyclodestruction including pain, hyphema, vision loss, hypotony and phthisis have led ophthalmologists to shy away from these techniques when other glaucoma treatment options are available. Recent studies have shown encouraging clinical results with fewer complic

Obstructive sleep apnoea in craniofacial microsomia: a systematic review.

Children with craniofacial microsomia (CFM) are at risk of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). This systematic review provides an overview of the literature on the prevalence of OSA in children with CFM. A search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science for articles on CFM and OSA. The following data were extracted from the articles: number of patients, patient characteristics, presence of OSA, polysomnography outcomes, and the treatments and outcomes of OSA. We included 16 articles on CFM and OSA, four of which reported the prevalence of OSA (range 7-67%). Surgical tr

Cholangiocarcinoma Attributed to Occupation: A Systematic Reviews.

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of a cluster of occupational cholangiocarcinoma(CCA) cases among Japanese workers at a small offset printing plant led to the hypotheses that occupational exposure was the root cause of this cancer. Numerous workplace carcinogens can be found at various jobs sites and are integral to various industrial processes. Therefore, a systematic evaluation of potential occupationally-related CCA and likely exposure types is needed. OBJECTIVE: To conduct a systematic review on the cause of CCA in relation to occupation. METHODS: The systematic review included papers publishe

Effects of exercise snacks on body composition in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis based on evidence from bioimpedance and DXA methods.

UNLABELLED: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the effects of exercise snacks (ES) on body composition in adults. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, FMRS, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library was conducted from inception to May 2025, supplemented by backward and forward citation tracking. Eight articles comprising nine studies met the inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis revealed that ES interventions produced a statistically significant improvement in lean mass (MD = 0.52 kg, 95% CI: 0.13-0.91, p = 0.01). In contrast, no statistically significant effects

Open resection versus arthroscopic resection for wrist ganglion cysts: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This study aimed to review the postoperative outcomes of surgical treatment options for wrist ganglion cysts and perform a meta-analysis comparing the 2 most common techniques: open and arthroscopic resection. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases for articles that compared the clinical outcomes of patients who underwent arthroscopic or open resection of the wrist ganglion. After screening, we identified two randomized controlled trials and four retrospective comparative studies. Recurrence rates, complications, functional scores, pain, operative time, and

Diagnostic accuracy of real‑time point-of-care tracheal ultrasonography for the confirmation of proper endotracheal tube placement in neonatal acute care settings: a systematic review and diagnostic test accuracy meta-analysis.

Accurate confirmation of endotracheal tube (ETT) placement is critical in neonatal resuscitation. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for confirming ETT placement in neonates. We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library through May 2025. Eligible studies included neonates (<28 days) and compared POCUS with gold-standard confirmation (capnography, chest radiography, or direct laryngoscopy). Diagnostic performance was pooled using a bivariate random-effects model. Thirteen studies (930 neonates) met in

Efficacy and Safety of Cannabinoids for Autism Spectrum Disorder: An Updated Systematic Review.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) lacks an established pharmacological treatment protocol, prompting interest in alternative therapeutic approaches, such as cannabidiol (CBD). This systematic review evaluates the potential efficacy and safety of CBD-rich formulations in managing ASD symptoms. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library identified seven studies encompassing 494 patients from Brazil and Israel. Preliminary findings suggest that CBD-rich formulations may provide modest benefits for sleep and social interaction, with a reduction in anxie
