BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: We have developed and investigated the partially-stabilized cements (PSC) with Zn for vital pulp therapy due to their short setting time and high cell biocompatibility. However, the effect of PSC with different concentrations of Zn on setting time and biocompatibility remained unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the optimal concentration of Zn to be synthesized with PSC for vital pulp therapy.
METHODS: PSC with different weight percentages of Zn (5%, 7%, 10%) were synthesized to attain 5%Zn-PSC, 7%Zn-PSC, and 10%Zn-PSC. The initial and final sett

The aim of this study was to use clinical, radiographic and histological examinations to compare the dental pulp response in 162 premolar roots of eight dogs when trichloracetic acid (TCA), formocresol, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and zinc oxide eugenol were used as pulpotomy agents. The teeth were divided into four groups. Following pulpotomy, the teeth were restored with amalgam. The animals were sacrificed at 48 h, 2, 4 and 8 weeks (two dogs at each interval). Histological evaluation indicated no cases with necrosis. After 8 weeks follow up, dentine bridge formation was evident in 20%,

PURPOSE: Nonsurgical root canal therapy (NSRCT) is indicated for management of permanent teeth diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. However, recent research has suggested that vital pulp therapy (VPT) may be a less invasive option in these cases. The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the outcomes of VPT, using hydraulic calcium silicate cements (HCSCs) including complete and partial pulpotomies in permanent posterior teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PRISMA recommendations were adhered to. The search approach used electronic

BACKGROUND: Traumatic dental injuries are a leading cause of pulpal exposure in immature permanent anterior teeth. Vital pulp therapy (VPT), particularly pulpotomy, has become the preferred treatment modality in such cases as it maintains pulp function, supports physiologic dentin deposition, and promotes long-term tooth retention. However, treatment delays may compromise clinical outcomes due to bacterial contamination and progressive pulpal inflammation. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine™, both hydraulic calcium silicate cements, have demonstrated favorable biological responses

Background and Objectives: Symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in permanent mature teeth is a common indication for nonsurgical root canal treatment (NSRCT), but contemporary studies have reported on vital pulp therapy (VPT) applied in such teeth as a less invasive treatment. This systematic review assessed the outcomes of VPT, including partial and full pulpotomy performed with hydraulic calcium silicate cements (HCSCs) in permanent mature posterior teeth diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Materials and Methods: The PRISMA guidelines were followed. The search strategy included Pu

This study investigates the physicochemical and biological effects of traditional Chinese medicines on the β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP)/calcium silicate (CS) composites of bone cells using human dental pulp cell. CS is an osteoconductive and bioactive material. For this research we have combined β-TCP and CS and check its effectiveness, a series of β-TCP/CS composites with different ratios of Xu Duan (XD) were prepared to make new bioactive and biodegradable biocomposites for bone repair. XD has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years as an antiosteoporosis, tonic and

AIM: The present randomized, controlled prospective study evaluated the histomorphological response of human dental pulps capped with two grey mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) compounds.
METHODOLOGY: Pulp exposures were performed on the occlusal floor of 40 human permanent pre-molars. The pulp was capped either with ProRoot (Dentsply) or MTA-Angelus (Angelus) and restored with zinc oxide eugenol cement. After 30 and 60 days, teeth were extracted and processed for histological examination and the effects on the pulp were scored. The data were subjected to Kruskal-Wallis and Conover tests (alph

This clinical report describes the use of maxillary and mandibular overlay removable partial dentures to treat a patient with class III skeletal malocclusion and a posterior open-occlusal relationship. Overlay removable partial denture therapy was used as an alternative to other options such as orthodontics and combined orthodontic/oral surgery procedures; it satisfied the esthetic and functional requirements of the patient and provided a stable occlusion. Overlay removable partial dentures are a reversible and relatively inexpensive treatment for patients with congenital or acquired anomalies

AIM: This study compared the radiopacity of tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) and 11 root-end filling materials relative to human dentine.
METHODOLOGY: Specimens of 2 mm thickness and a graduated aluminium stepwedge were placed on dental X-ray films and exposed to an X-ray beam. The optical densities of the specimens and aluminium steps were measured. The optical densities of the specimens were correlated to the equivalent thickness of aluminium with a regression analysis equation. The equation was used to calculate the equivalent aluminium thickness of each of the specimens.

This study evaluated the effects of chelating agents on the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin-modified calcium-silicate (RMCS) to dentine, as well as their impact on smear layer removal. Flat dentine surfaces from human molars were conditioned using 1% chitosan nanoparticles (CNP), 6% CNP, 9% etidronic acid (EA), 2.5% phytic acid (IP6), 7% malic acid (MA), 7% maleic acid (MeA), 10% citric acid (CA), 17% EDTA, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), or distilled water (control). RMCS were applied and tested for SBS. Smear layer removal was examined using SEM, and tubule patency was digitally analys

Mucosal fenestration is a clinical condition in which the overlying gingiva is denuded and the root is exposed to the oral cavity. Invasive cervical resorption is an entirely uncommon entity and its aetiology is poorly understood. This case presents an invasive cervical resorption of maxillary right central incisor with fenestration at the cervical third of the tooth. The resorption area was chemomechanically debrided. It was then restored with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate over which pink glass ionomer cement (GC Fuji VII) was placed. Lateral pedicle flap was used to cover the fenestration. The

BACKGROUND: In children, dental caries is among the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide. Pulp interventions are indicated for extensive tooth decay. Depending on the severity of the disease, three pulp treatment techniques are available: direct pulp capping, pulpotomy and pulpectomy. After treatment, the cavity is filled with a medicament. This is an update of a Cochrane review first published in 2003. The previous review found insufficient evidence regarding the relative efficacy of these interventions, combining one pulp treatment technique and one medicament.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the

BACKGROUND Crown discoloration is a significant aesthetic concern in endodontics, particularly following the use of obturation sealers. Using spectrophotometric analysis, this study evaluated the extent of discoloration caused by 4 types of sealers: mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)-based, zinc oxide eugenol (ZnOE)-based, calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2)-based, and resin-based sealers. MATERIAL AND METHODS We randomly divided 75 extracted maxillary central incisors into 5 groups: 4 experimental groups and 1 control group. Standardized endodontic treatment was performed, with the respective sealers p
