To enhance stature recovery, lumbar spine stabilization by stimulating the deep trunk muscle activation for compensation forces originating from the upper body was introduced. The abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM) technique has been found mainly to activate deep trunk muscles. The purpose of the current study was to determine whether 5 weeks of training of deep trunk muscles using the ADIM technique could improve stature recovery, delay trunk muscle fatigue, and decrease pain intensity during prolonged sitting. Thirty participants with chronic low back pain (CLBP) conducted a core stabiliza

Trunk stability exercises that focus on either deep or superficial muscles might produce different effects on lumbar segmental motion. This study compared outcomes in 34 lumbar instability patients in two exercises at 10 weeks and 12 months follow up. Participants were divided into either Core stabilization (deep) exercise, incorporating abdominal drawing-in maneuver technique (CSE with ADIM), or General strengthening (superficial) exercise (STE). Outcome measures were pain, muscle activation, and lumbar segmental motion. Participants in CSE with ADIM had significantly less pain than those in

Tissue perfusion during surgery is important in reducing surgical site infections and promoting healing. This study aimed to determine if insufflation of the open abdomen with heated, humidified (HH) carbon dioxide (CO2) increased visceral tissue perfusion and core body temperature during open abdominal surgery in a rodent model. Using two different rodent models of open abdominal surgery, visceral perfusion and core temperature were measured. Visceral perfusion was investigated using a repeated measures crossover experiment with rodents receiving the same sequence of two alternating treatment

BACKGROUND: A strong core is a key to stability, posture, and strength. To reduce back pain and improve functional movement deep abdominal muscles are targeted. Use a sphygmomanometer for reliable, objective core muscle strength and stability measurements based on the resistance applied. A pressure biofeedback unit (PBU) can provide feedback on core muscle function, helping to enhance lumbopelvic stability and overall core function.
METHODS: A study compared two devices in assessing core strength. Electronic databases like PubMed, MEDLINE and Google Scholar were used to search for relevant ar

Abdominal wall defects (AWDs) represent a significant reconstructive challenge, necessitating restoration of both structural integrity and dynamic function. While static reconstruction can address structural deficits, it often fails to replicate the dynamic properties of the native abdominal wall musculature, potentially resulting in compromised core strength and increased hernia recurrence. This article reviews the principles and techniques of dynamic abdominal wall reconstruction utilizing innervated muscle transfer, emphasizing its advantages in restoring core strength, minimizing hernia re

BACKGROUND: Long-term outcomes including incisional hernia (IH) after damage control laparotomy (DCL) are poorly understood. Ten core outcomes were recently proposed to standardize DCL studies. We evaluated these outcomes and IH rates post-DCL, hypothesizing that delayed closure, abdominal complications, leak, abscess and fistula would be associated with IH.
METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospective review of 262 patients who underwent DCL (2016-2019). IH was assessed by exam or CT at one year. Core outcomes measured were fascial closure at index hospitalization, days to closure, ab

BACKGROUND: Tumours within the retroperitoneum can cause a diagnostic dilemma. A preoperative core needle biopsy often is required to establish a histological diagnosis. Preoperative core needle biopsy for extremity soft-tissue sarcoma is oncologically safe and biopsy site recurrence is extremely rare, attributed to placing the biopsy site within the planned resection field. This study investigates whether preoperative core needle biopsy affects oncological outcomes in retroperitoneal sarcomas.
METHODS: Patients undergoing resection of intermediate- and high-grade primary retroperitoneal sarc
