R-GAT: cancer document classification leveraging graph-based residual network for scenarios with limited data.

Accurate classification of cancer-related biomedical abstracts is critical for advancing cancer informatics and supporting decision-making in healthcare research. Yet progress in this domain is often constrained by limited availability of labeled corpora and the high computational demands of transformer-based approaches. To address these challenges, we propose a Residual Graph Attention Network (R-GAT) that integrates multi-head attention with residual connections to capture semantic and relational dependencies in biomedical texts. Evaluated on a curated dataset of 1,875 PubMed abstracts spann

Social media and dissemination: impressions of fish pedicures following a case of onychomadesis.

Although the popularity of fish pedicures as cosmetic or routine services and/or tourist attractions has peaked in the past decade, the practice is still trending today and accompanying risks are less well-known by the public. More recently, a case of onychomadesis following fish pedicure has gained interest in both public and dermatologic populations, highlighting the importance of patient education. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the wide reach of the manuscript through social media and news outlets. The majority of social media correspondences have come from Thai accounts whereas ne

The Open Versus Closed Access Publication Advantage in Orthopaedic Surgery.

BACKGROUND: As scientific publishing has shifted to digital platforms, two primary article-publishing modalities have emerged: open access and closed access. Open access is freely accessible with an article processing charge (APC) paid by authors, whereas closed access lies behind paywalls, with low to no APC for authors. As the academic community increasingly relies on digital dissemination, it is critical to evaluate how these models influence research visibility and impact. This study compared open versus closed access randomized control trials (RCTs) across five prevalent orthopaedic condi

Spotlight on the Association of Radioactive Iodine Treatment With Cancer Mortality in Patients With Hyperthyroidism is Keeping the Highest Risk From Antithyroid Drugs in the Blind Spot.

July 1, 2019, JAMA Internal Medicine released online an article authored by Kitahara et al entitled "Association of radioactive iodine treatment with cancer mortality in patients with hyperthyroidism." The Altmetric Attention Score, a global indicator of interest from lay public and colleagues, skyrocketed to 223 by July 7, placing the article in the top 5% of all scored reports. The overall perception of death from cancer risk associated with I is inflated and not supported by evidence. As co-authors of this article, we offer previously unpublished data and analysis that (1) disputes clinical

Quantifying Public Engagement With Science and Malinformation on COVID-19 Vaccines: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Medical journals are critical vanguards of research, and previous years have seen increasing public interest in and engagement with medicoscientific findings. How findings propagate and are understood and what harms erroneous claims might cause to public health remain unclear, especially on publicly contentious topics like COVID-19 vaccines. Gauging the engagement of the public with medical science and quantifying propagation patterns of medicoscientific papers are thus important undertakings. In contrast to misinformation and disinformation, which pivot on falsehood, the more nuan

Towards high-quality, useful practice guidelines for child and youth mental health disorders: protocol for a systematic review and consensus exercise.

INTRODUCTION: The quality of clinical practice guidelines (PGs) has not been evaluated in child and youth mental health (CYMH). To address this gap, we will: (1) conduct a systematic review (SR) to answer the question 'among eligible PGs relevant to the prevention or treatment of CYMH conditions, which PGs meet criteria for minimum and high quality?'; (2) apply nominal group methods to create recommendations for how CYMH PG quality, completeness and usefulness can be strengthened. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: SR: Potentially eligible PGs will be identified in 12 databases using a reproducible search

When the self "logs in" - a critical narrative review of digital identity in health professions education.

Digital identity is no longer an add-on to professional life; it is a primary arena where the self is performed, negotiated, and sustained. Health professions education (HPE) depends on visibility; learners seeking mentors, academics signaling scholarship, clinicians building legibility on rating sites. Yet that same visibility is cross-pressured by codes of conduct, context collapse, and the ethics of self-disclosure. This critical narrative review treats digital identity as identity-as-work in public, persistent, searchable systems (the sum of traces others later encounter when platforms rem

Reporting quality and spin in abstracts of randomized clinical trials related to oral mucositis.

PURPOSE: Oral mucositis is a common debilitating side effect of cancer therapy. Numerous randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have examined interventions for this complication. Accurate reporting of RCT results in abstracts is crucial to treatment decisions. Spin undermines the integrity of the information presented and compromises evidence-based practice. This study evaluated the reporting quality of, and spin in, abstracts of RCTs of four interventions for oral mucositis: benzydamine, photobiomodulation therapy, oral cryotherapy, and keratinocyte growth factor, and assessed factors that can a

Cartilage Endplate-Derived Stem Cells for Regeneration of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration: An Analytic Study.

PURPOSE: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is considered the predominant cause of low back pain (LBP) and accounts for global disability and a substantial socioeconomic burden. Given the unsatisfactory outcomes of current treatment strategies, cartilage endplate-derived stem cells (CESCs) are increasingly used in intervertebral disc regeneration. However, comprehensive analyses on CESCs remain rare. Herein, we examined the biological functions and applications of CESCs in IDD. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify studies focused on CESCs. Rele
