In summary, the clinician has a variety of protocols available for monitoring ototoxicity. Depending on the patient's risk factors and ability to be tested, the protocol for a given patient may vary. A flow chart reflecting some of the possible decisions and options is presented in Figure 1. Animal models have demonstrated that solvents may induce auditory damage, especially to the outer hair cells.
