SOD2 is a C-myc target gene that promotes the migration and invasion of tongue squamous cell carcinoma involving cancer stem-like cells.

Our previous studies revealed that manganese superoxide dismutase (SOD2) contributes to the migration and invasion of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC). The purpose of the current study was to further clarify the mechanisms of SOD2 in the migration and invasion of TSCC. Side population (SP) cells were used as cancer stem-like cells and further assessed by sphere and colony formation assays, and the expression of stem cell markers (Bmi1, Nanog and ABCG2). We found that UM1 cells (TSCC cells with increased SOD2 expression, migration and invasion abilities) possessed a higher proportion of SP

Mycobacteria Treatment Inhibits Bladder Cancer Cell Migration, Invasion, and Anchorage-Independent Growth.

Bladder cancer (BC) is a highly recurrent and invasive malignancy, with Mycobacterium bovis BCG serving as the primary immunotherapy, particularly for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). However, the mechanisms underlying BCG's antitumor effects and the potential of non-tuberculous mycobacteria like Mycobacterium brumae remain unclear. This study investigates the antitumor effects of M. bovis BCG and M. brumae on BC cell migration, invasion, and anchorage-independent growth. BC cell lines representing different stages of tumor differentiation were treated with either M. bovis BCG or M.

The Role of TKS5 in Chromosome Stability and Bladder Cancer Progression.

TKS5 promotes invasion and migration through the formation of invadopodia in some tumour cells, and it also has an important physiological function in cell migration through podosome formation in various nontumour cells. To date, the role of TKS5 in urothelial cells, and its potential role in BC initiation and progression, has not yet been addressed. Moreover, the contribution of TKS5 to ploidy control and chromosome stability has not been reported in previous studies. Therefore, in the present study, we wished to address the following questions: (i) Is TKS5 involved in the ploidy control of u

Wound Healing Assay.

Cell migration is a crucial biological process involved in immune responses, early stages of development, metastasis of cancer, and also wound healing. Therefore, it is important to study cell migration and the effects of compounds on this process to better understand conditions such as cancer metastasis and impaired wound healing. Wound Healing Assay, also known as Scratch Assay, is an exceedingly widespread, technically simple, and inexpensive in vitro method used to analyze collective migration of adherent cells, the procedure of which involves creating a wound in a confluent monolayer of c

Semaphorin 3A as an inhibitive factor for migration of olfactory ensheathing cells through cofilin activation is involved in formation of olfactory nerve layer.

Olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) migrate from olfactory epithelium towards olfactory bulb (OB), contributing to formation of the presumptive olfactory nerve layer during development. However, it remains unclear that molecular mechanism of regulation of OEC migration in OB. In the present study, we found that OECs highly expressed the receptors of semaphorin 3A (Sema3A) in vitro and in vivo, whereas Sema3A displayed a gradient expression pattern with higher in inner layer of OB and lower in outer layer of OB. Furthermore, the collapse assays, Boyden chamber migration assays and single-cell mi

Selenium nanoparticles stabilized by Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharides: Synthesis, characterization and bioactivity.

Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) are a potential tumor therapeutic drug and have attracted widespread attention due to their high bioavailability and significant anticancer activity. However, the poor water solubility and degradability of selenium nanoparticles severely limit their application. In this study, spherical selenium nanoparticles with a particle size of approximately 50 nm were prepared by using Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide (SFPS) as a modifier and Tween-80 as a stabilizer. The results of in vitro experiments showed that Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide-Tween-80-Selenium nano

Inhibition of invasion and metastasis in choriocarcinoma by migration and invasion inhibitory protein.

INTRODUCTION: Choriocarcinoma is a highly invasive gynaecologic malignancy. Molecular mechanism of metastasis in choriocarcinoma is poorly understood. Migration and invasion inhibitory protein (MIIP) regulates cell migration and invasion. Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the function of MIIP in choriocarcinoma. METHODS: Choriocarcinoma cell lines, JAR and JEG-3, were transfected with lentivirus carrying the MIIP-interfering RNA (to downregulate MIIP expression) or left untransfected (negative control). Cell migration and invasion were studied using transwell migration assays and scratch assay

Deciphering the molecular mechanism of the THBS1 gene in the TNF signaling axis in glioma stem cells.

Glioma stem cells (GSCs) are thought to be responsible for the initiation and progression of glioblastoma (GBM). GBM presents highly invasive growth with a very high recurrence rate, so it has become a clinical problem to be solved urgently. RNAseq demonstrates that thrombospondin 1 (THBS1) acts not only in the angiogenic core of glioma but also with a high degree of invasiveness and infiltration. Nevertheless, defects in the signaling pathway research lead to a poor prognosis in glioma patients. To investigate the relevant molecular mechanism and signal pathway of glioma stem cell behavior me

EGFL6 promotes endothelial cell migration and angiogenesis through the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase.

Angiogenesis is required for bone development, growth, and repair. It is influenced by the local bone environment that involves cross-talks between endothelial cells and adjacent bone cells. However, data regarding factors that directly contribute to angiogenesis by bone cells remain poorly understood. Here, we report that EGFL6, a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeat superfamily proteins, induces angiogenesis by a paracrine mechanism in which EGFL6 is expressed in osteoblastic-like cells but promotes migration and angiogenesis of endothelial cells. Co-immunoprecipitation assays

Mesothelial vitronectin stimulates migration of ovarian cancer cells.

Ovarian carcinomas, the most fatal gynaecological malignancies, are associated with poor prognosis predominantly because of a high recurrence rate. Ovarian cancer cells spread widely throughout the abdominal cavity leading to peritoneal metastasis. The influence of the mesothelial microenvironment on the biological mechanisms leading to cancer cell colonization of the mesothelium is poorly understood. This study aims to investigate whether mesothelial secretions affect the migration of ovarian cancer cells and focuses on the role of the adhesive molecule Vn (vitronectin) and its integrin recep

Inhibition of osteoblast proliferation and migration by exogenous and endogenous formaldehyde.

Exogenous and endogenous formaldehyde (FA) both play an important role in cell growth and migration; however, their potential role in osteoblasts remains largely unclear. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and wound-healing assays revealed that FA exposure at naturally occurring concentrations inhibited the proliferation and migration of mouse preosteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells. Moreover, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis revealed that FoxO1 signaling pathway components displayed distinct expression patterns upon FA exposure, reflected through significant enrichment of cell migration. In particular, FoxO1-
