BACKGROUND: Endodontically treated teeth lose their structure primarily as a result of trauma, decay, and during root canal therapy. Root canal sealers containing eugenol reduce the bond strength of resin cements, therefore present study investigates the shear bond strength of composite to dentin contaminated by endodontic sealers using three types of sealers.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, 60 human premolar teeth crowns were cross-sectioned to expose the coronal dentin. The samples were divided into 4 groups of 15. In the 3 groups, the dentin surface was contaminated by Endofill, AH26

PURPOSE: Despite the aesthetic advantages of composite resins, polymerization shrinkage leads to microgaps, microleakage, and restoration failures. Various light-curing devices and techniques have been developed to reduce polymerization shrinkage; however, microleakage has not been completely prevented. High light intensity can shorten treatment time but may also increase polymerization stresses, potentially leading to increased microleakage. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different light intensities and application directions on microleakage.
METHODS: In this study, 48 caries

The effects of filler composition and surface treatment of titanium dioxide (TiO2) on the shear bond strength to noble metal and mechanical properties of opaque dental resin composites were assessed. A series of fillers for resin composites were prepared with untreated TiO2 or treated silica/alumina-coated TiO2 with silane coupling agent; these fillers were replaced with silanized SiO2 in increasing amounts. Each of various powder compositions were mixed with the liquid and applied to the surface of a silver-palladium-copper-gold (Ag-Pd-Cu-Au) alloy and light cured. A light-activated resin-ven

Degradation of composite resin during ageing always produces micro-cracks, the latter could gradually expand, leading to the fracture of tooth restoration. In order to extend the service life of composite resin by repairing cracks intelligently, self-healing microcapsule models have been introduced in resin-based dental materials. This paper will present the concept and classification of self-healing materials, and review the research progresses on self-healing dental resin.

This study was undertaken as a first step in identifying opportunities to decrease the need for replacement of class 3, 4, and 5 composite resin restorations. Data regarding the reasons for original placement or replacement of a restoration, the age of restorations at the time of replacement, and patient/doctor factors that may be associated with a decision to place or replace a restoration were recorded by use of a cross-sectional survey. During a 2-week period 108 dentists recorded reasons for placing or replacing 1360 restorations. Of the 1360 restorations, 42.8% were classified as primary

Photoactivating dental resin composites have been the most prevailing material for repairing dental defects in various clinical scenarios due to their multiple advantages. However, compared to other restorative materials, the surface of resin-based composites is more susceptible to plaque biofilm accumulation, which can lead to secondary caries and restoration failure. This study introduced different weight fractions (1, 2, 5, 10, and 15%) of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) as antibacterial fillers into dental resin composites. Multifarious properties of the material were investigated,

Dental composites, through their structural diversity, represent the biomaterials frequently used in dental reconstructive therapy. The aim of our study was to observe the influence of different beverage environment conditions on seven types of obturation dental materials with different compositions. Our research focused on the surface modification analysis of the materials after the immersion in the different beverages; in this regard, we used the EDAX technique correlated with the energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The pH of the drinks and that of the simulated saliva solution were

Adverse reactions to dental materials are not an uncommon occurrence, although hypersensitivity has gained much renewed interest in light of public concerns over the safety of dental materials. Hypersensitivity can affect both patients and dental professionals and may manifest as either allergic contact dermatitis or stomatitis. Methacrylic monomers, such as MMA, EGDMA, TEGDMA and Bis-GMA, have been documented as causative allergens, however, little has been documented on the risk of such monomers in composites and bonding agents. The purpose of this article is to examine the current evidence

UNLABELLED: Dimethacrylate dental composite resins exhibit inherently low toughness. Toughening of these materials may reduce the incidence of marginal and bulk fracture of composite restorations.
OBJECTIVE: To determine if dimethacrylate dental restorative materials can be rubber-toughened, and if so, to identify a possible mechanism.
METHODS: A filler composed of aggregates of polybutadiene/silica as well as irregularly-shaped silica slabs was produced by mixing silica with polybutadiene in dichloromethane. The dried filler was subsequently ground and sieved to < 25 microm. Polybutadiene/s
