Coupling coordination evaluation of the social-economic-environmental benefits of construction and demolition waste recycling industry.

The recycling of construction and demolition waste (C&DW) is not only an important tool for achieving 'carbon neutrality and peak carbon dioxide emissions' but also the key to the realization of social-economic-environmental (SEE) sustainable development in the region, as well as to the process of high-quality development in the construction industry. However, the recycling rate of C&DW in developing countries is generally low and the development of the industry is slow, which is not in harmony with the expected benefits from SEE systems. Based on this, the general objectives of this study are

Local exhaust ventilation for the control of welding fumes in the construction industry--a literature review.

Arc welding is a common unit operation in the construction industry, where frequent changes in location and welding position make it more difficult to control fume exposures than in industries where fixed locations are the norm. Welders may be exposed to a variety of toxic airborne contaminants including manganese (Mn) and hexavalent chromium (CrVI). Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) is a well-known engineering control for welding fumes but has not been adopted widely in the construction industry. This literature review presents data on the performance of a variety of LEV systems for welding fum

Measured solar ultraviolet radiation exposures of outdoor workers in Queensland in the building and construction industry.

The risk to outdoor workers of exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) has been known for some time, particularly in the building and construction industry, where workers often use little in the way of protection against solar UVR. In recent years there have been attempts by authorities in Australia and in Queensland in particular, where UVR levels in spring and summer are very high to extreme, to instigate and to encourage the use of personal UVR protection by outdoor workers. To quantify UVR exposure of building and construction industry workers involved in typical outdoor work, a stud

Modeling the enablers and barriers to circular economy integration in Nigeria's construction industry: a structural equation approach.

There is growing pressure on the Nigerian construction sector to reduce construction waste, resource depletion, and carbon dioxide emissions. The circular economy (CE) approach, which emphasizes reuse, recycling, resource efficiency, and design for deconstruction, offers a sustainable alternative to the dominant linear construction model. However, CE adoption remains limited in many developing economies, including Nigeria. This study examines the major enablers and barriers associated with CE integration in the Nigerian construction sector using a structural equation modelling (SEM) approach.

Structural equation modelling of lower back pain due to whole-body vibration exposure in the construction industry.

Whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure is a health hazard among workers, causing lower back pain (LBP) in the construction industry. This study examines key factors affecting LBP due to WBV exposure using exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The results confirm five key factors (equipment, job related, organizational, personal, social context) with their 17 associated items. The organizational factor is found the most important, as it influences the other four factors. The results also show that appropriate seat type, specific training programme, job rotation, workers' s

Environmental radiological impacts of the nuclear industry from mining to construction, operation, and decommissioning of a power station.

The nuclear industry has had a good track record of progressively reducing occupational, public, and environmental exposures across the nuclear fuel cycle through the practical implementation of the as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle. Worker and public doses remain low, and environmental impacts are being better understood, although the environmental impacts continue to be low. However, more recently, the industry is concerned that there is pressure to continue to reduce exposures despite there being no justifiable reason. This is often because of radiation being considered in i

Strategies for industrial residue valorization through metal recovery, use in construction, or CO2 mineralization.

Effective strategies for waste valorization from industrial residues include metal recovery, use in construction materials, and CO2 mineralization, all of which extend the value of these materials and reduce direct disposal. This study reviews valorization potential across an array of industrial residues, including pyrometallurgical slags, hydrometallurgical residues, power-plant combustion ashes, and mine wastes. Critical metal recovery is prioritized over construction material use driven by metal supply needs, starting with the extraction of rare earth elements (REEs) followed by other metal
