Adolescent Hydrocele Carrying a Surprise: A Case of Papillary Cystadenoma of the Epididymis.

Papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis (PCE) is a rare benign epithelial tumor remarkable for its association with von Hippel-Lindau disease. A 12-year-old boy consulted for a progressive enlargement of the left testicle. At time of surgery, the whole epididymis was enlarged. Pathologic diagnosis was PCE with a focus on borderline malignancy. Scrotal left epididymectomy was performed. von Hippel-Lindau disease screening was negative. No relapse has been detected 2 years later. In case of atypical clinical examination of a hydrocele, unusual presentations such as PCE should be considered. The

Papillary cystadenoma of epididymis: Is there a need for further investigation in unilateral cases?

INTRODUCTION: The presence of a mass in the epididymis is not a common entity. The papillary cystadenoma of epididymis is a benign tumor which may occur sporadically or as a characteristic of von Hippel-Lindau disease. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present a case of a 27-year-old man with a right scrotal mass who was treated with surgical excision. Histopathological examination revealed a clear cell epididymal papillary cystadenoma. A computed tomography scan that was performed later showed no other abnormality or any signs of von Hippel-Lindau disease. DISCUSSION: In this report, a case of a you

Synchronous Oncocytic Papillary Cystadenoma and Warthin Tumor of the Parotid Gland.

Warthin tumor (WT) is the second most common benign salivary gland neoplasm. It is also the most frequent salivary gland tumor to occur synchronously or metachronously with another salivary gland neoplasm, in the same gland or on the other side. Oncocytic papillary cystadenomas (OPCs) are rare neoplasms that are more common in minor salivary gland locations and in women. We describe in detail the case of a 73-year-old male smoker with synchronous OPC and WT of the parotid gland. On microscopy, both tumors resembled each other considerably, with the only difference being that the OPC lacked the

[Papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis: a report of 2 cases and review of the literature].

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinicopathological characteristics of papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis. METHODS: Using routine pathology and immunohistochemistry, we observed the surgically obtained samples from 2 cases of papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis, analyzed their pathological features and clinical presentations, and reviewed the related literature. RESULTS: The 2 patients were both adult males. The tumors typically manifested as painless swelling in the epididymis, with occasionally dull pain and tenesmus in 1 of the cases. Pathologically, the lesions exhibited three morpholog

Oncocytic papillary cystadenoma of the parotid gland: characteristic multiparametric MRI signature.

INTRODUCTION: Oncocytic papillary cystadenoma is a rare benign epithelial neoplasm of the salivary glands, infrequently arising in the parotid gland. Its preoperative imaging characteristics are poorly described, and the diagnosis is often established only after surgical excision and histopathologic examination. CASE PRESENTATION: We report two female patients (62 and 77 years old) who presented with parotid masses. Multiparametric MRI demonstrated multiloculated cystic lesions with distinctive features: (1) markedly low signal intensity (“signal void”) on T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted im

Bilateral submandibular gland nodular oncocytic hyperplasia with papillary cystadenoma-like areas.

A 57-year-old man presented in 2016 with a 4-month history of a right submandibular mass, having undergone left submandibular gland (SMG) excision in 2003. Imaging suggested a benign tumour and subsequent core biopsy findings suggested a nodular oncocytic hyperplasia, similar to the tumour removed from the contralateral side. This was confirmed on histological analysis following right submandibular gland excision which showed characteristic features of nodular oncocytic hyperplasia along with an unusual diffuse papillary cystadenoma-like ductal proliferation, similar to that seen in the 2003 s

Oncocytic Papillary Cystadenoma, an Unusual Variant Presenting as a Laryngeal Ventricular Cyst.

Cystadenoma arising from the larynx is a rare benign minor salivary gland tumor that can show mucinous or papillary morphology. The epithelial lining of the salivary gland tumor can present with oncocytic features, which is attributed to an increased number of mitochondria. We present a rare case of oncocytic papillary cystadenoma (OPC) of the larynx which has a combination of these features. The WHO defines OPC tumors as entities which closely resemble Warthin tumor, but lack its classic lymphoid component. The immunohistochemical profile and molecular genetic features are largely unknown. We

[Papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis accompanied by testicular atrophy: one case report].

Papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis is a rare benign tumor, accounting for only 4 per cent of all epididymal tumors. Histologically, it can be confused with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. This extremely rare lesion may occur sporadically or as a manifestation of von Hippel-Lindau(VHL) disease. The present paper reported a case of papillary cystadenoma accompanied by testicular atrophy with no signs of VHL syndrome or infertility. To date, no similar case was reported in the literature. The tumor measured 5.0 cm x 4.0 cm x 4.0 cm and was located in the right epididymis. Histopathologic ex

Papillary mucinous cystadenoma of probable renal pelvic origin in a horseshoe kidney.

A 59-year-old woman underwent a partial nephrectomy to remove a 7-cm cystic mass involving the left portion of a horseshoe kidney. Microscopically, the cyst was lined by tall columnar mucosecretory cells resembling endocervical cells. The lesion is believed to represent the benign counterpart of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis.

Papillary cystadenoma of the major salivary gland: A case report and review of literature.

Papillary cystadenoma (PC) of the salivary gland is an uncommon benign epithelial neoplasm that shows predominantly multicystic growth pattern with intraluminal papillary proliferation and areas of oncocytic differentiation. We report a case of papillary cystadenoma of the parotid gland in a 44-years-old female. The patient presented with painful nodular swelling in the right parotid region for two months. Ultrasonography revealed a well marginated oval lesion with altered signal intensity involving the superficial lobe. The excision specimen showed a neoplasm with multicystic spaces having pa

Multifocal microcysts and papillary cystadenoma of the lung in von Hippel-Lindau disease.

von Hippel-Lindau disease is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder characterized by a predisposition to multiple neoplasms. Renal cell carcinoma and hemangioblastomas of the retina and cerebellum are the most common of these, but other neoplasms and cysts also occur throughout the body. We report a distinctive, yet never described lung lesion in a 43-year-old woman with von Hippel-Lindau disease. Molecular genetic studies confirmed the presence of a VHL gene mutation in the cells of this lesion. We discuss the salient features of this novel lesion, and hypothesize on its origin and nature.

Pure (non-papillary) serous cystadenoma of the epididymis: a histologic and immunohistochemical study.

A 44-year-old man presented with painless right scrotal swelling of 2 years duration. A cystic tumor strictly attached to the head of the epididymis was surgically resected. The pathologic examination revealed a unilocular cyst with a thin fibrous capsule, lined by ciliated cubical or cylindrical columnar cells, mostly arranged in a single layer. No papillary projection could be detected. Immunohistochemical staining was positive for epithelial membrane antigen, low- and high molecular weight cytokeratins, progesterone receptor, vimentin, and S-100 protein, but was negative for carcinoembryoni

[Proliferating serous papillary cystadenoma of the borderline type in myometrium of the fundus uteri].

The 68-year old patient with clinical signs of peritonitis was laparotomized, and a cystic, ruptured structure thought to be an endometriotic cyst was found intraoperatively in the fundus uteri. Histomorphological investigation, however, revealed a proliferating serous papillary cyst-adenoma (borderline tumour) of the myometrium with surrounding, partially atypical endosalpingiosis.

[Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome with papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis: a case report].

A case of Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome with papillary cystadenoma of the right epididymis is reported. A 7-year-old boy visited our clinic on October 19, 1985 with a tender right intra-scrotal mass (35 X 15 m) and pyuria. In spite of the initial treatment with antibiotics, the tumor grew larger in December, 1987. The patient underwent right orchiectomy on December 23, 1987. Macroscopically, the specimen measured 40 X 23 X 20 mm and weighed 17 g. Histological examinations demonstrated that the tumor was papillary cystadenoma of the right epididymis. The patient lacked the signs of von Hippe
