Photoinduced Decarboxylative Sulfonylation of Carboxylic Acids with Sodium Sulfinates.

We report photoinduced decarboxylative sulfonylation of carboxylic acids with sodium sulfinates for synthesizing sulfones. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions, directly utilizing carboxylic acids without prefunctionalization, with copper acetate as the oxidant and sodium acetate as the base at room temperature. This method demonstrates excellent substrate compatibility, accommodating simple carboxylic acids, and drug molecules successfully converted into the corresponding sulfones. Furthermore, we developed a photoinduced two-step, one-pot protocol that integrated two carboxylic acids

Electrochemical decarboxylative alkylation of β-ketoacids with phenol derivatives.

An electrochemical method for the decarboxylative alkylation of β-ketoacids with phenol derivatives has been developed. The protocol was carried out in readily available unseparated cells at room temperature in the absence of catalysts and oxidants. The corresponding aryl ketones were obtained in satisfactory yields without additional electrolytes, and were easy to produce in gram-scale synthesis. Based on control experiments and cyclic voltammetry, a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed.

Effect of copper salts on hydrothermal oxidative decarboxylation: a study of phenylacetic acid.

Decarboxylation of carboxylic acids is favored under hydrothermal conditions, and can be influenced by dissolved metals. Here, we use phenylacetic acid as a model compound to study its hydrothermal decarboxylation in the presence of copper(ii) salts but no O2. Our results showed a strong oxidizing role of copper in facilitating oxidative decarboxylation.

Decarboxylation without CO2: why bicarbonate forms directly as trichloroacetate is converted to chloroform.

Patterns in the observed catalysis of decarboxylation reactions required us to conclude that these reactions involve initial hydration of the carboxylate and subsequent loss of bicarbonate. This raises the important and general question of why CO2 is not formed directly. Reaction profiles for the direct decarboxylation of trichloroacetate were generated with DFT calculations and show no significant barrier to the recombination of the incipient trichloromethide and CO2. In contrast, cleavage of the C-C bond from the hydrated intermediate shows a substantial barrier to recombination that allows

Growth yield increase and ATP formation linked to succinate decarboxylation in Veillonella parvula.

Veillonella parvula strain 259 (= DSM 2007) was able to grow on a mineral salts medium supplemented with (per litre) 1 g yeast extract, 1 g Tween-80, and 3 mg putrescine.2 HCl, with 6 mM thioglycolate as reductant and lactate as growth substrate. Succinate did not serve as a growth substrate, but when added in conjunction with lactate, it was decarboxylated to propionate and resulted in a measurable increase in growth yield, corresponding to the formation of 2.4 g cell dry mass per mol succinate. A growth yield increase linked to succinate metabolism occurred only while lactate was also being

Maple syrup urine disease: analysis of branched chain ketoacid decarboxylation in cultured fibroblasts.

Kinetic data are presented for the decarboxylation of branched chain alpha-ketoacids (BCKA) by intact human fibroblasts. Cultured cells of normal individuals and nine patients with different clinical pictures of maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) are studied with both alpha-ketoisocaproic acid (2-oxo-4-methylpentanoic acid (KIC)) and alpha-ketoisovaleric acid (2-oxo-3-methylbutanoic acid (KIVA)) as substrates. One normal cell strain and one patient cell strain is analyzed with alpha-keto-beta-methyl-n-valeric acid (2-oxo-3-methylpentanoic acid (MEVA)) as a substrate. A biphasic degradation kinet

Photoexcited Nickel(0)-Catalyzed Direct Decarboxylative Cross-Coupling.

Decarboxylative coupling is a key strategy for C─C bond formation in modern synthesis. Despite the abundance and diversity of natural amino acids, their direct decarboxylation remains challenging. Here, we report the direct decarboxylation of amino acids to generate α-aminocarbon radicals and their subsequent cross-coupling, enabled by air-stable nickel(0) complexes under photoexcitation without external photosensitizers. This mild catalytic system shows broad compatibility with diverse amino acids and aromatic functional groups, providing a new approach for their direct decarboxylation and fu

Iron-photocatalyzed decarboxylative allylation of aspartic and glutamic acid derivatives.

Synthetic strategies for the selective chemical modification of natural amino acids and peptides are constantly in great demand in current state-of-the-art therapeutics. Herein, we present an iron-photocatalyzed decarboxylative coupling of aspartic and glutamic acid derivatives with Morita-Baylis-Hillman esters for the synthesis of allyl-modified unnatural amino acids and oligopeptides. Utilizing aspartic and glutamic acid derivatives as alkyl radical precursors, this strategy features a wide substrate scope, mild conditions, operational simplicity, and no requirement for substrate preactivati

Muscarinic antagonists in substantia nigra influence the decarboxylation of L-dopa in striatum.

This study was designed to investigate whether anticholinergic drugs acting at the level of the substantia nigra can affect basal extracellular dopamine concentrations and the levodopa (L-dopa)-induced increases in dopamine levels in the striatum. Dual probe in vivo microdialysis in freely moving rats was used. One microdialysis probe was implanted in the substantia nigra and the other in the ipsilateral striatum. Muscarinic receptor antagonists were perfused into the substantia nigra and changes in neurotransmitter levels in the substantia nigra and at the axon terminals in the striatum were

Compartmental analysis of dopa decarboxylation in living brain from dynamic positron emission tomograms.

The trapping of decarboxylation products of radiolabelled dopa analogs in living human brain occurs as a function of the activity of dopa decarboxylase. This enzyme is now understood to regulate, with tyrosine hydroxylase, cerebral dopamine synthesis. Influx into brain of dopa decarboxylase substrates such as 6-[18F]fluorodopa and beta-[11C]dopa measured by positron emission tomography can be analyzed by solution of linear differential equations, assuming irreversible trapping of the decarboxylated products in brain. The isolation of specific physiological steps in the pathway for catecholamin

Decarboxylation of p-tyrosine: a potential source of p-tyramine in mammalian tissues.

The question of the existence of a p-tyrosine decarboxylase pathway for the formation of p-tyramine in mammalian tissues remains unresolved. Development of a sensitive and specific assay for p-tyrosine decarboxylase has permitted demonstration of this activity in rat tissues and human kidney. Tyrosine decarboxylase was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity by pH 5.0 precipitation, ammonium sulfate precipitation, gel filtration, phenyl-Sepharose chromatography, DEAE-Sephacel chromatography, and preparative isoelectric focusing. A specific rabbit antiserum to tyrosine decarboxylase was also ob

Decarboxylative selenylation of carboxylic acids: a reliable strategy for the synthesis of selenoethers.

Decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions have emerged as powerful and highly significant transformations for the construction of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds, benefiting from the use of stable, abundant, and cost-effective carboxylic acids as readily accessible coupling partners. These processes offer attractive alternatives to conventional cross-coupling or addition reactions that rely on organometallic reagents. Building on this strategy, a variety of methods have been developed for the synthesis of synthetically and biologically relevant selenoethers through decarboxylative sel

Selective decarboxylative dimerization enabled by a supramolecular template on Ag(111).

On-surface synthesis with high selectivity remains a central challenge in surface-confined organic reactions. This study investigates the decarboxylative coupling reactions of heptaazaphenalene-tribenzoic acid (HTBA) molecules on the Ag(111) surface and demonstrates that a thermally persistent supramolecular ribbon assembly can strongly bias the reaction pathway. Although HTBA contains three chemically similar carboxyl groups, sequential annealing leads predominantly (>90%) to a single dumbbell-shaped dimer. Temperature-dependent STM measurements combined with in situ heating directly reveal t

Decarboxylative Deuteroalkylation of Olefins: A Strategy for Synthesis of Deuterium-Labeled Molecules.

Herein, we report a regioselective decarboxylative deuteroalkylation of olefins. This protocol enables the previously unexplored functionalization of 2-vinylpyridine with redox-active esters (RAEs) employing zinc powder as the reductant, thereby addressing the limitations of prior approaches. The protocol tolerates a wide range of functional groups and complex natural product derivatives. Collectively, the diversification and synthetic versatility of deuterium-labeled drug molecules, particularly through site-specific deuteration, constitute a well-established and effective strategy in modern
