Mouthrinse recommendation for prosthodontic patients.

Different reasons can contribute to classifying dental prosthesis wearers as high-risk individuals in relation to dental biofilm accumulation. These include a past history of oral disease, age and additional retentive areas. Other common complaints include inflammation and halitosis. Moreover, prosthesis replacement and prosthetic pillar loss are generally associated with caries and periodontal disease recurrence. Therefore, the present study undertook to make a critical review of the literature, aiming at discussing the main aspects related to chemical agent prescriptions for dental prosthesi

Differences in implant stability associated with various methods of preparation of the implant bed: an in vitro study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: It is difficult to achieve the primary stability necessary for immediate loading in the posterior maxilla because of thin cortical bone, low density trabecular bone, and inadequate bone height due to the presence of the maxillary sinus. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the primary stability of dental implants placed by using different methods of preparation for in vitro monocortical and bicortical models of the posterior maxilla. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty screw-shaped implants (4.0 × 10 mm) were inserted into solid rigid polyurethane blocks. The impla

Investigation of the pull-off forces for implant-supported overdentures with two resilient attachment systems.

Here we evaluated the retention of two implant-supported overdenture attachment systems - Locator and CM-LOC - on edentulous mandibular models. We compared the retention force between these systems based on implant number and position, addressing complications like loss of retention and ease of denture removal. Implants were placed in various configurations (two, three or four implants) and two attachment systems were tested using different retention inserts. Locator system generally provided higher pull-off forces than the CM-LOC system, especially with the red and transparent inserts. Howeve

Correlation Between Acquisition of Dental Implant Stability and Hounsfield Units at Dental Implant Placement.

Alveolar bone quality at the implantation site affects the initial stability of dental implant treatment. However, the relationship between bone quality and osseointegration has yet to be evaluated. Herein, we aimed to investigate the effect of bone quality on dental implant stability in osseointegration formation changes. Patients underwent computed tomography imaging before dental implantation at the posterior. Hounsfield units were measured at the platform, middle, and tip sites. Implant stability was measured using resonance frequency analysis immediately and at 3 months postoperatively, i

Abutment-Bar Structure Connection Geometry: An Important Design Parameter for Implant-Supported Bar-Retained Overdentures With Cantilever Extension.

When extended distally due to higher loading in the posterior region, implant-supported bar-retained overdentures with cantilever bar extension exhibit greater bending moments on the implants closest to the cantilever bar and increased stresses in the overdenture components. In this study, a new abutment-bar structure connection was introduced to minimize undesired bending moments and reduce the resulting stresses by increasing the rotational mobility of the bar structure on the abutments. Copings of the bar structure were modified to have 2 spherical surfaces, sharing the same center, located

Rehabilitation of a Bilateral Maxillectomy Patient with a Free Fibula Osteocutaneous Flap and with an Implant-Retained Obturator: A Clinical Report.

A 47-year-old man underwent surgical resection and reconstruction with a fibula osteocutaneous flap. After the surgery, a surgical obturator was placed and adjusted. After flap healing, a conventional obturator was fabricated with polymethyl methacrylate resin and retained by the anatomical undercuts around the reconstructed fibula bone flap and the posterior part of the defect. As the defect shape changed with time, a second conventional obturator was fabricated and fitted. No further recurrence of myoepithelioma was observed for 2 years, and the patient was satisfied with the obturator durin

Osseointegrated Dental Implants as Retention Systems for Digit Prostheses in Finger Amputations.

INTRODUCTION: Finger amputation significantly impairs hand function and self-image. When surgical reconstruction or replantation is not possible, a finger prosthesis can provide cosmetic and functional benefits. However, conventional prostheses are limited by poor retention and lack of sensation. In this study, we evaluate an alternative method using osseointegrated dental implants to anchor finger prostheses, which provide stable fixation and, in turn, improve function and sensory feedback. METHOD: Four patients with traumatic amputations of a single finger each (thumb, index, middle, and ri

Percutaneous implant retention of a nasal prosthesis.

This report describes an approach to the simultaneous retention of a nasal prosthesis and an intraoral prosthesis for a patient who had undergone a total rhinectomy with resection of the upper lip and premaxilla. At the time of the nasal resection, 2 dental implants were placed adjacent to the resection margins in the first premolar positions. These were used to anchor an intraoral, milled titanium bar and overdenture to replace the missing anterior teeth and provide support for the upper lip, which had been reconstructed with a vascularized radial forearm free-flap. The titanium bar also inco

Fabrication of an immediate surgical obturator for a patient with resection of the maxillary antrum and bony orbital floor.

An immediate surgical obturator is necessary for maxillectomy procedures to minimize functional disabilities in speech, swallowing, and egress of food and liquid into the surgical defect. Sometimes the extent of the tumor may be such that it may even require the removal of the maxillary sinus along with resection of the orbital floor. The resected orbital floor can be surgically reconstructed with autogenous soft and/or hard tissues or with alloplastic materials. This clinical report highlights one such situation where the surgical resection of the maxilla and the orbital floor were rehabilita

Effect of design of all-ceramic resin-bonded fixed partial dentures on clinical survival rate.

In the treatment of single-tooth gaps, the resin-bonded fixed partial denture (FPD) has established itself as an alternative treatment modality. With the advent of high-strength ceramics, such as aluminum oxide ceramics, it appeared to be possible to fabricate all-ceramic resin-bonded FPDs without a metal reinforcement. However, fractures of the traditional two-retainer design of these restorations occurred quite frequently. It was proposed to change the two-retainer design to a single-retainer design with the hope that the survival rate could be improved. Nevertheless, the use of aluminum oxi

Assessment of Dental Implant Stability in Areas Previously Submitted to Maxillary Sinus Elevation.

This study aimed to compare the primary and secondary stability, measured by resonance frequency analysis (RFA), in implants of different lengths installed in areas submitted to maxillary sinus lift. Correlation between RFA and implant insertion torque was also assessed. Twenty implants of 9 and 11 mm were inserted in areas submitted to maxillary sinus lift. The insertion torque was measured by the Bien Air motor. Osstell, through RFA, determined the implant stability quotient (ISQ) 2 times: the day of implant installation (T1) and 90 days after implant installation (T2). No differences were o

Influence of endodontic access on the fracture resistance, retention and microleakage of full-coverage restorations in vitro: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Endodontic access through retained full-coverage restorations (FCRs) is a preferred option for patients because of its high cost-effectiveness. However, the clinical performance of FCRs after repaired access cavity remains insufficiently characterized. This systematic review investigates the effects of endodontic access cavity preparation through retained FCRs on fracture resistance, retention, and microleakage based on in vitro studies. METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. Studies investigating the influence of endodontic
