Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging as a Pharmacodynamic Biomarker for Pazopanib in Metastatic Renal Carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: Traditional imaging assessment criteria might not correlate well with clinical benefit from vascular endothelial growth factor pathway-directed therapy in metastatic renal cancer. Preclinical data suggest tumor growth is preceded by a rise in Ktrans level, a parameter derived from dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that reflects vascular permeability. We thus hypothesized that Ktrans might be a predictive biomarker for pazopanib. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with metastatic renal cancer were treated with pazopanib at 800 mg oral daily u

Value of magnetic resonance imaging including dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in differentiation between inverted papilloma and malignant tumors in the nasal cavity.

BACKGROUND: Distinguishing inverted papilloma (IP) from malignant tumors in the nasal cavity is difficult in a substantial number of cases, thus hindering the administration of appropriate therapeutic strategies. This study aimed to evaluate whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), could improve differentiation between IP and malignant tumors, and to identify which MRI features were the best in discriminating IP from malignant tumors in the nasal cavity. METHODS: Non-enhanced, static, and dynamic contrast enhanced MRI was performed in 88 pat

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the lung reveals important pathobiology in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

INTRODUCTION: Evidence suggests that abnormalities occur in the lung microvasculature in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). We hypothesised that dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could detect alterations in permeability, perfusion and extracellular extravascular volume in IPF, thus providing in vivo regional functional information not otherwise available. METHODS: Healthy controls and IPF subjects underwent DCE-MRI of the thorax using a dynamic volumetric radial sampling sequence and administration of gadoterate meglumine at a dose of 0.1 mmol·kg-1 at 2 mL·s-1

Prospective evaluation of dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of fistula in ano.

Forty-two patients with a suspected diagnosis of fistula in ano underwent prospective comparison of digital rectal examination, dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCEMRI) and surgical exploration. There were five discordancies: DCEMRI showed an ischiorectal abscess and track with no enteric connection in one patients who at operation was found to have a well epithelialized primary fistula. Four patients with fistulas on DCEMRI had no enteric opening found at surgery and were treated as having sinuses. Long-term follow-up has shown failure to heal in all patients and further

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging in the activity staging of terminal ileum Crohn's disease.

BACKGROUND: The activity staging of Crohn's disease (CD) in the terminal ileum is critical in developing an accurate clinical treatment plan. The activity of terminal ileum CD is associated with the microcirculation of involved bowel walls. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) can reflect perfusion and permeability of bowel walls by providing microcirculation information. As such, we hypothesize that DCE-MRI and DWI parameters can assess terminal ileum CD, thereby providing an opportunity to stage CD activity. AIM: To evaluate the

Quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for renal perfusion measurement in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Total kidney volume (TKV)-based indices are central to imaging classification in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) but primarily reflect cumulative changes, limiting their ability to detect current disease activity. We evaluated quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) as a complementary tool for assessing renal perfusion in mild and rapidly progressive ADPKD. METHODS: Five healthy subjects and twenty patients were enrolled, 10 with mild ADPKD [estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and htTKV ≤750 mL/m]

Visualized breath-hold training for reducing respiratory motion artifacts in liver dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: Liver dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) plays a critical role in detecting hepatic lesions but is highly susceptible to respiratory motion artifacts. Although advancements in rapid magnetic resonance (MR) acquisition techniques have been made, breath-hold acquisitions are predominantly used for abdominal DCE-MRI due to their superior image quality. Therefore, prescan breath-hold training is essential to improving patients' compliance and minimizing respiratory artifacts. Traditional oral training methods, which rely on operators monitoring chest/abdomin
