A report presented of a case of giant dysgerminoma which initiated an acute abdomen necessitating surgical intervention during the mid-trimester of pregnancy. Two months later the patient was delivered of a healthy baby by Caesarean section. Repeated follow-up examinations of the patient have so far confirmed the favourable prognosis based on the pathological findings and intra-operative assessment.

Although neoplasms are unusually frequent in patients with ataxia-telangiectasia, the occurrence of primary tumors of the ovary in such patients is exceedingly rare. This report describes a 17-year-old phenotypic female with ataxia-telangiectasia, who was found to harbor an ovarian gonadoblastoma and a contralateral dysgerminoma. The latter tumor has occurred in only one other patient with ataxia-telangiectasia, while an association with gonadoblastoma has never been documented previously. Additional unusual features rarely encountered in patients with gonadoblastoma included origin of the tum

Ovarian dysgerminoma is usually hormonally inert, but when it contains syncytiotrophoblastic giant cells or undergoes malignant transformation, the level of estradiol might be elevated. A 6-year-old girl contracted ovarian dysgerminoma with precocious puberty, and her levels of beta-human chorionic gondaotropin, alpha-fetoprotein and estradiol were high. After resection of the tumor, levels of tumor markers became normal and precocious puberty disappeared. We report this unusual type of dysgerminoma with a brief review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Malignant dysgerminomas are infrequently reported ovarian neoplasms in animals, especially in exotic pets (non-traditional companion animals [NTCAs]). In the few published case reports on reptilian species, examples are primarily postmortem without antemortem (clinical) assessment.
PATIENT PRESENTATION: An adult, 13-year-old, spayed female inland bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) presented with lethargy, a right-sided head tilt, unilateral exophthalmos and ventrotemporal strabismus on the right eye. On examination, a palpable mass (approximately 3.5 cm in diameter) was detected wi

Germ cell tumors are malignant tumors that mostly develop in the gonads. Extragonadal localization is rare and may affect the mediastinal and sacrococcygeal regions. Mediastinal seminoma is a malignant germ cell tumor of the mediastinum. The tumor typically occurs in the anterosuperior mediastinum in males and often has a very slow growth pattern and limited potential for metastasis. And symptoms are not very characteristic, with many patients being asymptomatic and the tumor being discovered incidentally. In this paper, we report the case of a 26-year-old patient admitted for the management o

RATIONALE: Dysgerminoma is a rare malignant tumor of the ovary, more frequently occurring in young women. The main signs of pseudo-Meigs syndrome (PMS) are ascites and hydrothorax accompanying benign or malignant ovarian tumors (no fibroma or fibroma-like tumor).
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 19-year-old woman with fever and chest tightness for 2 days.
DIAGNOSES: Pectoral-abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large amount of right pleural effusion, a small amount of ascites, and a huge abdominopelvic mass measuring about 29.2cm × 11.8cm × 8

Dysgerminoma is a malignant ovarian germ cell tumor, and unlike sex-cord stromal tumors, endocrine manifestation is considered rare. Here, we report the first case of dysgerminoma presenting precocious puberty. The patient is a 7-year-old girl who presented with a breast development in Tanner stage 3. Serum estradiol (E2) was markedly elevated while luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were suppressed below the detection limit. Microscopically, the right ovarian mass displayed nests of large polygonal cells and fibrous septa which were focally concentrated by theca-l

Although the occurrence of pure gonadal dysgenesis PGD is usually sporadic and nonfamilial, here we present 3 sisters with 46, XX PGD, who are born from a first cousin marriage. Review of their family pedigree is compatible with autosomal recessive inheritance. Surprisingly, 2 of these sisters developed ovarian tumors. Both showed the pathological result of dysgerminoma with syncytiotrophoblastic giant cells. These 2 cases are examples of tumorigenesis in PGD without an identifiable Y chromosome. Therefore, malignant degeneration of the streak gonads should be considered in the patients with 4

INTRODUCTION: Ambiguous genitalia (AG) present significant challenges in both diagnosis and management. Often associated with disorders of sexual development (DSD), AG can lead to complex medical scenarios, including an increased risk of malignant transformation. This case report underscores the importance of recognizing the clinical implications of AG and the necessity for careful monitoring.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 22-year-old male who presented with abdominal pain and distension. Upon physical examination, he exhibited characteristics consistent with ambiguous genitalia

Gonadoblastomas are rare germ cell and sex cord stromal tumours, often associated with dysgerminomas. They occur almost entirely in patients with pure or mixed gonadal dysgenesis and in male pseudohermaphroditism. A 19 year old female was admitted in our hospital for evaluation of primary amenorrhoea. She had poor secondary sexual characters, left sided streak gonad and right sided ovarian tumour. Histopathology showed gonadoblastoma in streak gonad with contralateral dysgerminoma. This case is presented because of its rarity and clinical importance of recognizing such cases because of excelle

Germline mutations in the BRCA1 tumor suppressor gene are associated with increased risk for the development of ovarian cancer. All such cancers thus far reported have been of the epithelial histologic type. We identified an ovarian dysgerminoma in a 16-year-old woman (proband) with a family history of ovarian cancer during a review of histopathologic characteristics of ovarian cancers from women enrolled in the Gilda Radner Familial Ovarian Cancer Registry. Mutation analysis of DNA from this patient's peripheral blood leukocytes revealed a germline BRCA1 mutation (3312insG). The mutation was

Isolated meningeal recurrence of ovarian cancer is uncommon. It is generally assumed that such cases are not accompanied by prolonged survival. We report the cure of a patient with advanced ovarian dysgerminoma who developed febrile carcinomatous meningitis 2 weeks after receiving her fifth course of combination chemotherapy (5 months after initiation of chemotherapy). No parenchymal brain disease was identified. The persistence of disease in the leptomeninges is related to the ability of the blood-brain barrier to exclude chemotherapeutic agents. The patient responded to craniospinal radiatio

Here we report the fourth case of dysgerminoma in a patient with the syndrome of gonadal dysgenesis and 45,X karyotype. Typical Turner's syndrome features were unusually associated with breast development, menarche and secondary amenorrhoea. Exaggerated basal and GnRH stimulated gonadotrophin and low oestradiol levels were typical of post-pubertal Turner's syndrome. Detailed (standard) chromosome and banding analysis excluded the presence of Y chromosome material. This case suggests that the presence of a Y chromosome is not necessary for abnormal differentiation of germ cells and the occurren

INTRODUCTION: Primary extragonadal germ cell tumors (EGCTs) are a very rare clinical encounter most commonly reported in males. Among females, the placenta, pelvis, uterus, brain, and mediastinum are the most common extragonadal sites and predominantly display nondysgerminoma histology. In this report, we present a case of a primary cervical dysgerminoma in a young female patient. Case Report. An 18-year-old nulligravid woman presented with a 12-month history of vaginal bleeding and discharge. Routine blood tests and serum levels of tumor markers were within normal limits. The chest X-ray was

Hypercalcemia associated with malignant tumors is a rare entity in pediatrics (0.5-1.3 % of pediatric cancers). It responds to different pathophysiological mechanisms and the typical symptoms shown are usually nonspecific, but potentially serious. We present a clinical case of a 12-year-old patient with a bilateral ovarian dysgerminoma who was diagnosed with severe hypercalcemia at the onset, which required hyperhydration associated with loop diuretics, bisphosphonates and, eventually, the tumor resection surgery that allowed the final resolution of the clinical picture. Despite being a rare h

BACKGROUND: Dysgerminoma is an uncommon malignant tumor arising from the germ cells of the ovary. Its association with pregnancy is extremely rare; the incidence is about 0.2-1 per 100,000 pregnancies. Because of its infrequency, there are few recommendations regarding its management in pregnancy; therefore, it is important to discuss and summarize the treatment strategy.
CASE: We presented a case of a 23-year-old pregnant woman with a large dysgerminoma originated from the right ovary, which had the unusual coincidence of being associated with an abdominal desmoid tumor simultaneously. We di
