Eubacterium nodatum mimics Actinomyces in intrauterine device-associated infections and other settings within the female genital tract.

Eubacterium nodatum is an obligately anaerobic, gram-positive, branching rod that markedly resembles Actinomyces, particularly Actinomyces israelii, in its cellular and colonial characteristics. Its isolation from the female genital tract was examined for a study period in which use of intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUDs) was common, and additional characteristics of the organism were investigated. Fifteen genital isolates of E nodatum were all associated with the presence of a foreign body, usually an IUD (12 patients). Six of these 12 patients had presented with clinically severe pelvic

Host-specific effects of Eubacterium species on Rg3-mediated modulation of osteosarcopenia in a genetically diverse mouse population.

BACKGROUND: Osteosarcopenia, characterized by the simultaneous loss of bone and muscle mass, is a serious health problem in the aging population. This study investigated the interplay between host genetics, gut microbiota, and musculoskeletal health in a mouse model of osteosarcopenia, exploring the therapeutic potential of gut microbiota modulation. METHODS: We examined the effects of Rg3, a phytochemical, on osteosarcopenia and its interactions with host genetics and gut microbiota in six founder strains of the Collaborative Cross (CC) population. Subsequently, we evaluated the therapeutic

Eubacterium rectale Mitigates Inflammatory Bowel Disease via Modulation of Glutamine Metabolism Through the GLS2 and NF-κB Pathway.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory intestinal disorder with complex etiology, closely associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis. This study demonstrates that Eubacterium rectale (ER), a beneficial commensal bacterium, alleviates dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice, as evidenced by improved clinical symptoms, restored intestinal barrier integrity, and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. Mechanistic investigations revealed that ER specifically upregulates the expression of glutaminase 2 (GLS2), ameliorates DSS-induced disturbances in glutamine (Gln)

Eubacterium siraeum suppresses fat deposition via decreasing the tyrosine-mediated PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in high-fat diet-induced obesity.

BACKGROUND: Obesity in humans can lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Similarly, subcutaneous fat (SCF) in pigs affects feed utilization, and excessive SCF can reduce the feed efficiency of pigs. Therefore, identifying factors that suppress fat deposition is particularly important. Numerous studies have implicated the gut microbiome in pigs' fat deposition, but research into its suppression remains scarce. The Lulai black pig (LL) is a hybrid breed derived from the Laiwu pig (LW) and the Yorkshire pig, with lower levels of SCF compared to the LW. In this study

Faecalicoccus acidiformans gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from the chicken caecum, and reclassification of Streptococcus pleomorphus (Barnes et al. 1977), Eubacterium biforme (Eggerth 1935) and Eubacterium cylindroides (Cato et al. 1974) as Faecalicoccus pleomorphus comb. nov., Holdemanella biformis gen. nov., comb. nov. and Faecalitalea cylindroides gen. nov., comb. nov., respectively, within the family Erysipelotrichaceae.

Strains LMG 27428(T) and LMG 27427 were isolated from the caecal content of a chicken and produced butyric, lactic and formic acids as major metabolic end products. The genomic DNA G+C contents of strains LMG 27428(T) and LMG 27427 were 40.4 and 38.8 mol%. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, both strains were most closely related to the generically misclassified Streptococcus pleomorphus ATCC 29734(T). Strain LMG 27428(T) could be distinguished from S. pleomorphus ATCC 29734(T) based on production of more lactic acid and less formic acid in M2GSC medium, a higher DNA G+C content

Unveiling the Pathogenic Bacteria Causing Descending Necrotizing Mediastinitis.

The combination of maxillofacial infections (MI) with descending necrotizing mediastinitis (DNM) is a complex disease characterized by rapid development and high mortality. Here, we performed metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) using samples from 21 patients with MI and eight patients with DNM. In this study, we found that the species richness of the DNM group was higher than that of the MI group, and the species diversity of the DNM group was higher than that of the MI group, with no statistically significant differences between groups (P > 0.05). LefSE analysis revealed that the ma

Refining the relationship between gut microbiota and common hematologic malignancies: insights from a bidirectional Mendelian randomization study.

BackgroundThe relationship between gut microbiota and hematologic malignancies has attracted considerable attention. As research progresses, it has become increasingly clear that the composition of gut microbiota may influence the onset and progression of hematologic malignancies. However, our understanding of this association remains limited.MethodsIn our study, we classified gut microbiota into five groups based on information at the phylum, class, order, family, and genus levels. Subsequently, we obtained data related to common hematologic malignancies from the IEU Open GWAS project. We the

Lachnoanaerobaculum gen. nov., a new genus in the Lachnospiraceae: characterization of Lachnoanaerobaculum umeaense gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from the human small intestine, and Lachnoanaerobaculum orale sp. nov., isolated from saliva, and reclassification of Eubacterium saburreum (Prevot 1966) Holdeman and Moore 1970 as Lachnoanaerobaculum saburreum comb. nov.

Two novel obligately anaerobic, Gram-stain-positive, saccharolytic and non-proteolytic spore-forming bacilli (strains CD3:22(T) and N1(T)) are described. Strain CD3:22(T) was isolated from a biopsy of the small intestine of a child with coeliac disease, and strain N1(T) from the saliva of a healthy young man. The cells of both strains were observed to be filamentous, approximately 5 to >20 µm long, some of them curving and with swellings. The novel organisms produced H(2)S, NH(3), butyric acid and acetic acid as major metabolic end products. Phylogenetic analyses, based on comparative 16S rRNA

Curcumin supplementation during high-altitude exposure modulates body composition and its relationship with gut microbiota: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Body composition is crucial for athletic performance and linked to the gut microbiota. Curcumin shows potential to promote muscle regeneration and modulate fat metabolism, but evidence from high-altitude populations remains scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of curcumin on body composition at high altitudes, and explore potential role of gut microbiota. METHODS: A total of 102 male Han participants was randomized to curcumin (812 mg/d) or placebo groups for 1-week pre-acclimatization and 6-week high-altitude acclimatization. Body composition was assessed via bioelect

A Large Genetic Causal Analysis of the Gut Microbiota and Urological Cancers: A Bidirectional Mendelian Randomization Study.

BACKGROUND: Several observational studies and clinical trials have shown that the gut microbiota is associated with urological cancers. However, the causal relationship between gut microbiota and urological cancers remains to be elucidated due to many confounding factors. METHODS: In this study, we used two thresholds to identify gut microbiota GWAS from the MiBioGen consortium and obtained data for five urological cancers from the UK biobank and Finngen consortium, respectively. We then performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis with Wald ratio or inverse variance weighted

Comprehensive Effect of Carbon Tetrachloride and Reversal of Gandankang Formula in Mice Liver: Involved in Oxidative Stress, Excessive Inflammation, and Intestinal Microflora.

To systematically evaluate the effect of Gandankang (GDK) aqueous extract in alleviating acute and chronic liver injury. Forty-one chemical compounds were identified by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-linear trap quadrupole-orbitrap-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-LTQ-Orbitrap-MS) from GDK. All dosages of GDK and Biphenyl diester (BD) improved CCl4-induced acute and chronic liver injury. GDK curbed liver fibrosis and blocked the NF-κB pathway to effectively inhibit the hepatic inflammatory response. Additionally, GDK treatment reduced the abundance of Phascolarctobacterium, Turici

Anaerobic microbial methanol utilization as a one-carbon feedstock.

Acetogens are anaerobic bacteria of special interest in fighting environmental and economic impacts caused by massive carbon emissions that pollute our Earth's atmosphere. These microbes have the unique ability to convert carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, or methanol into value-added bioproducts. The gas fermentation technology is already at industrial scale and is making use of special acetogens able to produce ethanol natively. Here, we propose a methanol-based bioconversion process using anaerobic methylotrophic acetogens (Eubacterium limosum or Eubacterium callanderi) to produce natively on
