Based on the invisibility of this population in public and scientific discourse, the research examined abusive dynamics in intimate relationships and their consequences for victims' mental, social and emotional health. A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with 120 Portuguese women with a history of domestic violence. Four validated instruments were applied: the Questionnaire of Emotional Response to Domestic and Sexual Violence, the Domestic Violence Scale, th

Gender-based violence (GBV) is an increasingly prevalent problem that can take many forms, have different levels of severity, and different ways of perpetuation. Palliative care providers' holistic focus assists in improving the quality of life of patients by identifying and responding to various factors that cause suffering in their patients, which provides a unique perspective on identifying GBV. In Uganda, there is a high rate of GBV due to cultural norms, gender inequities, and gender roles. This qualitative case study explored perspectives on GBV through the lens of palliative care provid

Globally, rising temperatures and the frequency and severity of heatwaves are predicted to worsen over the coming years, yet the social impacts of this phenomenon remain under-researched. In particular, the relationship between extreme heat and gender-based violence (GBV) has received limited attention, despite growing concern that heat-related stress could exacerbate known drivers of violence. We conducted a systematic review following a PROSPERO-registered protocol (CRD42025645675). We searched academic and grey literature to identify the global quantitative evidence on the association betwe

Gender-based violence (GBV) affects one-third of women globally and 22% in Uganda. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, GBV has increased among women in informal settlements, exacerbating poverty, vulnerability, and mental health. This study examined associations between GBV forms and depression and anxiety among women in Kampala's informal settlements. We conducted a cross-sectional, baseline survey of the SafeBangle intervention which included a sample size of 644 adolescent girls and women living in Kampala's informal settlements. Our outcomes - depression and anxiety were measured using Patient He

BACKGROUND: Women in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are primary producers of subsistence food and significant contributors to the agricultural economy. Gender Based Violence (GBV) adversely impacts their capacity to contribute and sustain their families and undermines social, economic, and human capital. Addressing GBV, therefore, is critical to creating safe and inclusive environments for women as primary producers to participate fully in rural communities. The aim of this scoping review is to explore the existing evidence on GBV in the context of women primary producers in LMICs to

INTRODUCTION: Gender-based violence (GBV) poses a significant threat to women's mental health, especially in university settings where structural dynamics of subordination may persist. In Ecuador, more than 64% of women over the age of 15 have experienced some form of violence, underscoring the need for contextual studies.
METHODS: This study used a quantitative, cross-sectional design with a random sample of 380 female students from the Psychology program at the State University of Milagro (UNEMI). Two instruments were used: the Dating Abuse Questionnaire (DAQ) to assess five types of violen

INTRODUCTION: Evidence regarding the benefits, opportunities, and risks associated with providing health care to patients experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) and, moreover, their satisfaction with health care services is sparse.
METHOD: Using a patient- and trauma-informed relationship-based framework, survivors of GBV who were referred for follow-up care were asked to participate in a quality improvement (QI) initiative in an effort to understand their perspectives of receiving healthcare services. Patients were asked to answer three open-ended questions in regard to their healthcare ex

In the context of sport, a growing body of research has reported the prevalence of violence against athletes, including sexual, physical, and psychological violence and neglect, experienced by both women and men in sport. Preliminary research has reported that gender-diverse individuals, specifically transgender athletes, may have a greater vulnerability to experiences of violence in sport, but this remains an under-researched population. In addition to limited research specifically on violence experienced by transgender athletes in sport, there is also only emerging research on virtual violen
