Health information system in primary health care units of the Central Zone, Tigray, Northern Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Health information systems require the management of health information through health management information systems and research and knowledge management. In many low-income countries, including Ethiopia, poor data quality and limited use of health information remain major challenges in the health system. Reliable health data quality is essential for evidence-based decision-making and improving quality health service delivery. This study aimed to assess and explore the contextual factors of the quality and utilization of health information in primary health care units in the Cent

Effectiveness of monitoring mechanisms in reducing immunization dropouts among infants in health facilities of Maridi County, South Sudan.

INTRODUCTION: Childhood immunization is among the most cost-effective public health strategies available, yet dropout rates, the proportion of infants who begin but fail to complete the recommended vaccination schedule, remain a persistent obstacle to achieving high and equitable coverage. Global third-dose pentavalent coverage stood at 86% in 2019, declined to 84% in 2020, and fell further to 82% in 2021, consistently falling short of the 85% minimum target. This shortfall is especially pronounced in fragile health systems such as that of South Sudan, where facility-level and community-level

From health check-ups to "City sewage health scan": Multidimensional chemical analysis for wastewater-based epidemiology in Hong Kong.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) can provide a multidimensional "health check-up" for community-wide health. We conducted a "city sewage health scan" in Hong Kong by analyzing 401 time-proportional composite samples from 12 sewersheds over five weeks, classifying 117 biomarkers, referencing the local drug formulary and WHO ICD-11, into 45 features and seven health categories (infectious, endocrine, central nervous system, cardiovascular, respiratory, pain-related, and lifestyle). Our findings contextualized Hong Kong's longevity, showing that Hong Kong's biomarker levels are moderate global

Examining multimorbidity differences across racial groups: a network analysis of electronic medical records.

Health disparities across ethnic or racial groups are typically examined through single behavior at a time. The syndemics and multimorbidity health disparities have not been well examined by race. In this study, we study health disparities by identifying the networks of multimorbidities among individuals from seven population groups based on race, including White, African American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, Bi- or Multi-racial and Pacific Islander. We examined a large electronic medical record (EMR) containing health records of more than 18.7 million patients and created multimorbidity

The use of a registry case load survey in predicting trends in rehabilitative needs for the handicapped.

A special follow-up study of handicapped children was carried out to determine the level of residual disability in the caseload of the British Columbia Health Surveillance Registry. A total of 10,689 cases, aged seven or fourteen years were surveyed. Sixty-eight per cent of seven-year-olds and sixty-five per cent of fourteen-year-olds had a residual handicap. Of 3,131 seven-year-olds with a residual handicap, four per cent were not attending a school of any kind. Three per cent of the 4,094 fourteen-year-olds with a residual handicap were not attending school. These figures, along with prevale

Outcomes of Below-the-Knee Amputations for Chronic Lower Extremity Pain.

The study evaluated the physical, mental, and functional outcomes following below-the-knee amputation (BKA) for management of chronic, debilitating lower extremity pain. The hypothesis was that patients who undergo a BKA to alleviate chronic pain achieve a greater level of function, experience decreased pain, and benefit from improved health-related quality of life. Patients who received a BKA attended an orthopaedic clinic and completed questionnaires examining their overall health, functional status, mental health, and pain. Thirty-seven patients were identified as eligible for study particip

Local Responses to Limits on U.S. Public Health Authority During the COVID-19 Emergency.

Public health has become politicized in the U.S. Though research shows that limiting public health authority during emergency response puts community wellbeing and health outcomes at risk, during the COVID-19 emergency (2020-2021), some U.S. state policymakers limited the disease-preventing actions local public health agencies could take. This conflicts with public health agencies' mandate to protect lives. Using COVID-19 as a case study, we explored how local public health agencies upheld their mandate when faced with limited public health authority. We conducted qualitative semi-structured f

Systematic review of mental or behavioral health care in integrated specialty medical care settings.

INTRODUCTION: Although the integration of mental health services is widely accepted as important in primary care, the benefits for specialty medical care are less clear. This systematic review aimed to assess evidence on whether mental or behavioral health integration into specialty care can improve patient and health service delivery outcomes. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE and APA PsycInfo from 2014 to 2024. We also hand-searched reference lists, consulted content experts, and used an artificial intelligence function (DistillerSR). Studies were included if they met the following criteria: (a)
