Risk factors and pathogenic microorganism characteristics for pneumonia in convalescent patients with stroke: A retrospective study of 380 patients from a rehabilitation hospital.

BACKGROUND: Pneumonia is a major complication leading to death after stroke. The risk factors of pneumonia in convalescent patients who have experienced stroke remain poorly defined. METHODS: To identify the risk factors of pneumonia, we applied logistic regression as a statistical method using SPSS23.0 statistical software, based on a sample of 380 patients. And statistical description method was used to analyze pathogens' characteristics and drug resistance. RESULTS: Ultimately, the obtained logistic model has statistical significance (χ2(13) = 91.560, P <0.0005). The sensitivity of the mo

Clinical Outcome of Patients with Bone Metastases in a Convalescent Rehabilitation Ward: A Case Series of Six Patients.

BACKGROUND: Advances in cancer treatment have led to an increase in the number of cancer survivors and, likewise, cancer patients in convalescent rehabilitation wards. It is difficult for patients with bone metastases to recover their motor functions and be discharged. However, cancer treatments, such as anti-cancer drug therapy and radiation therapy, are not generally provided in convalescent rehabilitation wards. CASES: This study retrospectively reviewed six cases of bone metastases in our convalescent rehabilitation ward from April 2018 to October 2019. The ages of the patients ranged fro

Acute-phase Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index is associated with swallowing function after convalescent rehabilitation in older patients with ischemic stroke: A retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Post‑stroke dysphagia and malnutrition both compromise recovery. Whether the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) measured on acute admission predicts swallowing function after convalescent rehabilitation remains unclear. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed 254 with ischemic stroke patients aged ≥ 65 y (median age 79.3 y; 141 men) who were admitted within 7 d of stroke onset and subsequently transferred to convalescent rehabilitation hospitals. GNRI was calculated within 3 d of acute admission. Swallowing function was assessed with the Functional Oral Intake Scale (F

Convalescent plasma in the treatment of moderate to severe COVID-19 pneumonia: a randomized controlled trial (PROTECT-Patient Trial).

There is a need for effective therapy for COVID-19 pneumonia. Convalescent plasma has antiviral activity and early observational studies suggested benefit in reducing COVID-19 severity. We investigated the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in a population with a high HIV prevalence and where few therapeutic options were available. We performed a double-blinded, multicenter, randomized controlled trial in one private and three public sector hospitals in South Africa. Adult participants with COVID-19 pneumonia requiring non-invasive oxygen were ran

Significantly Decreased Mortality in a Large Cohort of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Patients Transfused Early with Convalescent Plasma Containing High-Titer Anti-Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Spike Protein IgG.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) convalescent plasma has emerged as a promising therapy and has been granted Emergency Use Authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. We recently reported results from interim analysis of a propensity score-matched study suggesting that early treatment of COVID-19 patients with convalescent plasma containing high-titer anti-spike protein receptor binding domain (RBD) IgG significantly decreases mortality. We herein present results from a 60-day follow-up of a cohort of 351 transfused hospitalized patients. Prospec
