Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is an aggressive B cell lymphoma with frequent involvement of the gastrointestinal tract and peripheral blood (PB). In addition to the B cell markers, the neoplastic cells express CD5 and CD43. In patients with a prior history of MCL with PB involvement, the appearance of leukemic cells after chemotherapy usually heralds a relapse, particularly if the leukemic cells express B cell markers and CD43. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the roles of CD43, CD20 and total IgE in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps.
METHOD: Twenty-six cases of nasal polyps and 20 cases of mucosa of middle turbinates were used in present study.
RESULTS: The number of CD43+ cells, CD20+ cells and plasma cells in nasal polyps were significantly more than that in middle turbinates (P < 0.01). The positive rate of local IgE+ cells in nasal polyps was significantly higher than in middle turbinate (P < 0.01).
