The paradigm-shifting idea and its practice: from traditional abortion Chinese medicine Murraya paniculata to safe and effective cancer metastatic chemopreventives.

Recent large epidemiological studies demonstrated benefit of oral contraceptives in reducing cancer risk, and our analysis also showed molecular and cellular similarities between embryo implantation and CTCs adhesion-invasion to endothelium. We here hypothesize that abortion traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) may serve well for pre-metastatic chemoprevention. To test the hypothesis, we selected the safe and well-known abortifacient TCM Murraya paniculata and identified a most-promising extracted fraction G (containing flavonoids and coumarins) from its many raw ethanol/dichloromethane extracts

Protective effect of antioxidant rich aqueous curry leaf (Murraya koenigii) extract against gastro-toxic effects of piroxicam in male Wistar rats.

Piroxicam (chemically 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-pyridinyl-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide), a classical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is orally administered to arthritic patients. Inhibition of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis and subsequent free hydroxyl radical generation in vivo exert gastro-toxic side effects on piroxicam treatment. Leaves of curry plant are rich in antioxidants with prolific free radical scavenging activities. This led us to investigate the efficiency of the use of curry leaves in ameliorating piroxicam induced gastric damage. Piroxicam was orally (30 mg p

Isolation of phytoconstituents from an extract of Murraya paniculata with cytotoxicity and antioxidant activities and in silico evaluation of their potential to bind to aldose reductase (AKR1B1).

The study on Murraya paniculata (Orange Jasmine) stem bark extract found it to have antioxidant and cytotoxic proper-ties. The structures of the isolated phytoconstituents were determined using NMR spectroscopy. Compounds were evaluated for their potential to be aldose reductase inhibitors using molecular docking and dynamics (MD) simulations. Phytochemical screening of methanolic crude extract was performed from which different fractions of the extract were screened for antioxidant activity using the DPPH radical scavenging method and cytotoxicity using the brine shrimp lethality bioassay. Two flavonoid-based compounds from Murraya paniculata as novel human carbonic anhydrase isozyme II inhibitors detected by a resazurin yeast-based assay.

Human carbonic anhydrase isozyme II has been used as protein target for disorder treatment including glaucoma. Current clinically used sulfonamide-based CA inhibitors can induce side effects, and so alternatives are required. This study aimed to investigate a natural CA inhibitor from Murraya paniculata. The previously developed yeast-based assay was used to screen 14 compounds isolated from M. paniculata and identified by NMR analysis for anti-human CA isozyme II (hCAII) activity. Cytotoxicity of the compounds was also tested using the same yeast-based assay but in a different cultivation con

Taxonomy-Dependent Seed Tocochromanol Composition in the Rutaceae Family: Application of Sustainable Approach for Their Extraction.

Several members of the Rutaceae (citrus) family are widely cultivated and processed. Tocopherol (T) synthesis and composition are well-documented, while tocotrienols (T3) in most plant families remain underreported. To amend this, mass screening of Rutaceae species' seed tocochromanols were analysed. Of the 53 analysed species, seed tocochromanols were tocotrienol-dominated in 22 species, including a majority of species Zanthoxyloideae (Choisya, Dictamnus, Melicope, Ptelea, Skimmia, Tetradium, Zanthoxylum) and the Cneoroideae (Cneorum) subfamily. Total tocochromanol content ranged from 0.20-25
