Development and Preliminary Validation of an Oral Health Multidisciplinary Team Nurse Competency Scale.

BACKGROUND: Oral health multidisciplinary team (OHMDT) care places nurses in a coordinating role across specialties, but the absence of a context-specific assessment tool limits training evaluation, competency benchmarking, and quality improvement. This study aimed to develop and preliminarily validate an OHMDT nurse competency scale. METHODS: We conducted a mixed-methods instrument-development study with two phases. First, an item pool derived from a systematic literature review was refined through two Delphi rounds with a multidisciplinary expert panel (n = 16). Second, a cross-sectional su

Development of Job Standards for Nurse-Led Rapid Response Teams in the Republic of Korea.

BACKGROUND: Nurse-led rapid response teams (RRTs) significantly improve patient safety. However, the absence of specific job standards can precipitate role ambiguity and compromise care quality. Therefore, establishing tailored job standards that reflect the distinct healthcare context of the Republic of Korea is imperative to optimize RRT performance and clinical outcomes. AIM: To identify nurses' activities in nurse-led RRTs and to develop job standards that define the desired performance levels of RRT nurses and enable task evaluation within the Korean healthcare context. METHODS: This st

Approaches Implemented by Nurse Managers Linked to High-Performing Clinical Care Teams.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to discern managerial approaches linked to low nurse turnover and positive workplace well-being in a large academic health system in the Southeastern United States. BACKGROUND: Nurse managers influence nurse job satisfaction and retention; however, little qualitative research elucidates managerial techniques to foster positive work environments. METHODS: High-performing units were identified. Fifteen nurse managers participated in semistructured interviews to discuss their managerial style and approach to retention. Inductive codes were generated to disce

Outcomes of a Nurse-Led Difficult Urinary Catheter Team in an Academic Medical Center.

BACKGROUND: Catheter insertion for complex patients by inexperienced nurses can lead to avoidable iatrogenic urethral injury and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). PURPOSE: The study aim was to evaluate a comprehensive nurse-led difficult urinary catheterization (DUC) Program to reduce patient CAUTIs. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study design was used to evaluate the DUC Program's effectiveness during 2013 to 2017. Measures included RN DUC consultations, protocol adherence, patient CAUTIs, and urology consults. RESULTS: The RN DUC team consulted 435 patients with a 92%

Ward Nurses' Perceptions of the Medical Emergency Team: A Cross Sectional Descriptive Study.

BACKGROUND: Medical Emergency Teams (METs) are a cornerstone of rapid response systems (RRS). Ward nurses function as primary activators and frontline coordinators before team arrival, yet their perceived competencies, role clarity, and experiences within MET systems remain poorly characterised. AIMS: To describe ward nurses' perceived confidence, training adequacy, role clarity and attitudes towards the MET system, and to identify training and implementation gaps warranting intervention. STUDY DESIGN: Cross sectional descriptive observational study (STROBE-compliant). A structured self-admi

The Nurses' Role in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team: Data From the Perfect-CR Study.

BACKGROUND: Nurses constitute a central profession in the cardiac rehabilitation (CR) team delivering comprehensive CR to individuals with cardiovascular disease. We aimed to identify specific components reflecting the nurses' role in the CR team associated with attainment of risk factor targets post myocardial infarction. METHODS: Center-level data (n = 78) was used from the Perfect-CR study, in which structure and processes applied at CR centers in Sweden (including details on the nurses' role) were surveyed. Patient-level data (n = 6755) was retrieved from the SWEDEHEART registry. Associat

Improving Cardiogenic Shock Team Activation Through Nurse Education and Alert Implementation.

BACKGROUND: Patients with cardiogenic shock have a 25% to 50% mortality rate despite the introduction of mechanical circulatory devices and coordinated medical treatment. The use of shock teams has improved outcomes for these patients. LOCAL PROBLEM: A cardiovascular hospital with a multidisciplinary shock team had inconsistency and delays in recognition and diagnosis of patients with cardiogenic shock. METHODS: A nurse-led, preintervention-postintervention quality improvement project was performed in April and May 2021 and in April and May 2022 within a cardiovascular hospital in north Texa

[Utility and safety of direct admission to acute geriatric unit after Nursing Home Geriatric Team assessment].

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: More than half of institutionalized older people need a emergency department visit annually, with high resources consumption and higher risk of adverse events, due to high complexity. Direct admission to Acute Geriatric Unit (AGU), after geriatric consultant and nursing home medical team assessment, could be a safety and effective alternative to emergency department (ED) admission. METHODS: Retrospective observational study of AGU patients admitted by Nursing Home Geriatric Team between January, 1st and December, 31st, 2021. Planned admissions and SARS-CoV-2 positive

The Impact of Targeted, In-Depth Team Huddle Training on Nurses' Compliance With Blood Administration Protocols.

BACKGROUND: Despite established protocols, nursing compliance with transfusion procedures varies. Traditional training often lacks reinforcement and practical application. Evidence shows that focused, evidence-based team huddle trainings improve understanding and compliance, promoting safer, more effective transfusion practices. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether targeted team huddle training on blood administration, as a supplementary intervention, improves nurses' knowledge and compliance with transfusion protocols. METHODS: A pretest-posttest study was conducted us

Understanding Baseline Concussion Testing: A Resource for School Nurses as Members of Concussion Management Teams.

Sports-related concussions (SRCs) are not uncommon among teen athletes. School nurses are in an ideal position to care for athletes affected with SRCs. However, evidence suggests there is a lack of knowledge regarding concussion management, use of baseline concussion testing, and active involvement on concussion management teams among school nurses. This article briefly examines the use of baseline concussion testing as a tool for assessing and managing the student athlete suffering from an SRC. The role of the school nurse on concussion management teams will also be explored. As active member

Staff meeting effectiveness and team performance among nurses and midwives in a tertiary hospital in Qatar.

Staff meetings are routine but often underused tools for workforce coordination in healthcare. This brief research report assessed perceived staff meeting effectiveness, team performance, and related organizational conditions among registered nurses and midwives in a tertiary hospital in Qatar. A cross-sectional correlational survey was completed by 190 eligible staff using the Staff Meeting Effectiveness Questionnaire, the Team Performance Scale, and organizational-context items. Meeting effectiveness and team performance were generally favorable and strongly associated (Spearman rho = 0.764,
