Transcultural nursing is a discipline that emphasizes culturally competent care for diverse populations, recognizing the influence of culture on health beliefs, values, practices, and outcomes. It requires nurses to respect cultural differences and similarities, but faces challenges in curriculum design, faculty development, and student assessment. This paper explores transcultural nursing education's current state and future directions, addressing the American Association of Colleges of Nursing essentials for integrating cultural content into nursing curricula, reviewing Madeleine Leininger's

Stress and burnout are significant concerns in nursing academia, as students balance clinical and academic demands, faculty manage teaching and research responsibilities, and staff navigate heavy workloads. Traditional wellness initiatives often address these groups separately, overlooking the value of shared engagement across the life course. This case study examined the development, implementation, and outcomes of an evidence-based wellness program within a College of Nursing. The life course framework reflected the continuum of human development, spanning students entering nursing directly

Internal promotion is a common pathway into academic nursing leadership, with program directors, department chairs, associate deans, and deans frequently appointed from existing faculty ranks. While this practice offers institutional continuity and organizational familiarity, it introduces a transition challenge that remains underexplored in the nursing education literature: the negotiation of positional authority among individuals who were, until recently, collegial peers. This article examines the peer-to-leader transition in academic nursing through the lenses of role theory, Meleis' Transi

The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties has identified communication, psychomotor skills, and cognitive decision-making as core competencies for all nurse practitioners. Faculty leaders of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program at the University of Texas at El Paso were tasked with developing innovative assignments to help FNP students meet core competencies. This article discusses the challenges and successes of creating and implementing best-practice simulation events for FNP students to help students practice these core competencies, utilizing standardized patients, a

INTRODUCTION: Health systems are expanding access to artificial intelligence (AI), yet frontline integration into teaching, clinical workflows, and research practice remains uneven. We frame this gap as the "AI embedding deficit," reflecting limited organizational pathways that enable frontline professionals to translate local needs into legitimate, supported, and sustainable AI-enabled tools and workflows. This Experience Report describes a prototype intervention mechanism implemented at an academic nursing school: a rapid-cycle Nursing-AI Challenge followed by a year-round Nursing-AI Studio

Approximately 2.5 million neonates died worldwide in 2018. Over one quarter of neonatal deaths are caused by birth asphyxia. Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) was created to teach basic neonatal resuscitation steps in limited-resource settings. Fifteen Fijian faculty members attended a master teacher class. Nine undergraduate nursing students from the western United States assisted in teaching two HBB classes for Fijian nursing students. Fijian faculty and student knowledge increased significantly posteducation. Educational settings provide ideal locations for future nurses to learn and practice ev

AIM: The aim of this study was to examine how nurse educators develop as scholarly writers.
BACKGROUND: To broaden the body of knowledge used to inform practice, nurses need to develop scholarly writing skills. However, writing skill acquisition is inconsistent, resulting from wide variation in or absence of deliberate writing development across all levels of nursing education.
METHOD: A descriptive-interpretive design underpinned by naturalistic inquiry using semistructured interviews of nursing faculty (N = 16) was used.
RESULTS: Five stages of writing skill acquisition emerged from the d

America's experience on September 11, 2001, forms the backdrop of this review of the public health nursing role in bioterrorism preparedness. The risks and challenges to the public health infrastructure are reviewed in order to place bioterrorism preparedness in a public health context. A review of the literature provides background material on the extent to which public health has evolved in planning for a bioterrorism event. The skills and competencies that will prepare public health nurses in their planning for and response to threats of bioterrorism are addressed. Anthrax is used as an exa

OBJECTIVE: Therapeutic communication is essential to nursing practice, yet many pre-licensure nursing students report discomfort applying these skills in clinical settings. Standardized patient (SP) simulation offers a controlled environment for practicing communication, yet qualitative research describing students' perceptions of these experiences remains limited. This study explored undergraduate nursing students' perspectives on small-group, communication-focused SP simulations within a psychiatric-mental health nursing course.
METHODS: As part of a larger program evaluation, six in-person

Using available evidence and astute assessment skills, nurses and advanced practice nurses, as members of an inter-professional team, were able to assess, diagnose, and initiate treatment for a child with lymphatic filariasis within a global health practice setting. The lessons learned during health outreach trips to an underserved commune of Port-au-Prince, Haiti can promote an understanding of appropriate nursing practice related to this parasitic infection. They can also assist nursing students, nurse practitioner students, and faculties as members of a medical outreach team to promote sust

CONTEXT: Nursing students, nurse educators, and nurses engage in clinical practice education and healthcare services through experiences within the complex clinical environment, and culture, in interaction with other healthcare professionals. During this process, learners and nurses become part of the community of practice, experiencing a socialization process where they develop both their individual growth and professional identity. Therefore, addressing the experiences of nursing students and educators regarding the clinical environment, and culture as a component of the community of practic

BACKGROUND: In the evolving landscape of health care, the need for highly skilled nursing professionals has never been greater. Central to meeting this demand is the collaboration between academic institutions and health care settings, particularly through faculty practice partnerships.
METHOD: An academic-practice partnership in a safety-net hospital partnered with doctorally prepared faculty from a private university and a public community college to create an academic-practice partnership triad. This triad addresses every level of need, including the clinical placements of licensed practic

BACKGROUND: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people, also commonly referred to as sexual and gender minorities (SGMs), live in every part of the United States and encompass all races and/or ethnicities, religions, and social classes. Major reports from various sources document higher rates of health issues (e.g., substance abuse, depression, suicidality, cardiovascular disease) among SGMs than heterosexuals. Chronic stress related to marginalization and discrimination is a key contributor to these disparities. The nursing profession has paid relatively little attention to

BACKGROUND: Although faculty design Master of Science in Nursing courses to help students acquire knowledge in practice, evidence gaps exist in the literature. The purpose of this study was to describe problems identified by practicing graduate nursing students, match them with themes from the National Institute of Nursing Research, determine if sufficient published literature exists to guide research-based interventions, and identify gaps.
METHOD: Using the National Institute's research themes as the framework, 215 de-identified student papers were selected using two courses-a research metho

Western Carolina University (WCU) nursing students, alongside faculty and licensed nurse volunteers, played pivotal roles in the community's response to Hurricane Helene's devastating impact. Drawing on WCU's experience, this article examines the successes and challenges of integrating nursing students into emergency response efforts and emphasizes the need for strengthened pre-planning and academic-practice partnerships, the implementation of readiness checklists, and the development of a centralized registry to clarify student roles and identify preceptors during emergencies.

This phenomenological study investigates the epistemological maturation of 11 early-career nursing faculty. In-depth interviews identified a critical experiential threshold in clinical practice. Initially, novices often remain phenomenologically confined to mechanical task execution, inadvertently objectifying patients (corps-objet). However, surpassing a 3-year clinical threshold facilitates a profound ontological shift: educators reclaim practical intention and perceive patients as lived subjects (corps-propre). This embodied clinical wisdom is a prerequisite for translating abstract nursing
