INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of peanut allergies is increasing, emphasizing the need for an animal model to enhance our understanding of peanut allergy pathogenesis and to advance diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions. While mice are frequently used as model organisms, their allergic responses do not fully mirror those observed in humans, warranting the exploration of a higher animal model. Angioedema is characterized by transient, episodic, nonpruritic, nonpitting and well-defined edema that involves the subcutaneous or submucosal tissue, and most commonly develops in the head and neck region. Angioedema is caused by extravasation of plasma into the interstitial space of the affected tissue. SETTING AND DESIGN: An unmasked randomized controlled crossover trial of 7-16 year olds with double-blind placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC)-proven peanut allergy. The first phase compared an active group undergoing 26 weeks of OIT with daily ingestion of peanut protein vs. a control group avoiding peanuts. Both groups underwent DBPCFC to peanut at 26 weeks. In the second phase the control group was then offered OIT for 26 weeks.

Kounis syndrome (KS), also known as allergic angina, is a type-1 hypersensitivity reaction affecting the coronary vessels, leading to vasospasm. It manifests like an acute coronary syndrome on the electrocardiogram and is often underdiagnosed.
