This scoping review aimed to review and summarize the evidence related to the attitudes toward human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)/postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) among people at risk of HIV, health care workers (HCWs), and the general population in India. A literature search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and PsycINFO was conducted from January 1, 2002, to February 1, 2024. The search field contained a combination of keywords and MeSH terms such as: HIV, PrEP, PEP knowledge, awareness, willingness, and practice. Studies published in English language, conducted in Ind

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a new treatment against HIV spread consisting of taking antiretrovirals to prevent HIV infection. Silva (Discret Contin Dyn Syst Ser S 11:119-141, 2017) introduced a mathematical model of HIV spread including PrEP. Here we propose to complete their work by including the PrEP parameter in the basic reproduction number of the system. To do so, we study stability changes through the influence of this new parameter. We also prove the global stability of the steady states of the system in this new case using Lyapunov functions. Finally, we extend the stability to

HIV and intimate partner violence (IPV) are significant intersecting threats to women's health. Women in violent relationships have few feasible HIV risk reduction options as traditional prevention methods are largely dependent on a partner's cooperation. The purpose of this review is to explore potential benefits and drawbacks of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use among women in the United States experiencing IPV. Advantages of PrEP use in this population include the potential for covert or autonomous use, coital independence, dual protection against sexual and injection risk, and facilitate

Condom use is propagated as the most efficient measure to prevent HIV-transmission. For several reasons, condoms are NOT ALWAYS used or misapplied during sexual intercourse. Therefore, alternative preventive measures through intake of antiretroviral drugs before sexual intercourse with a (presumably) HIV-positive person are being considered, so called Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). In animal models the efficacy of HIV-PrEP was shown for Tenofovir alone or in combination with Emtricitabine). Several clinical studies are currently being conducted in different HIV-risk groups on various contine

INTRODUCTION: When assessing the effectiveness of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) programmes, interventions, or modalities, it is important to understand patterns of PrEP use. Continued use of PrEP is frequently referred to as PrEP "persistence." But persistence is not defined consistently, and differences impact the interpretation of study outcomes and public health policy. We conducted a scoping review to describe and compare definitions of PrEP persistence.
METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus and Global Health records (01/01/2012-01/26/2026) for results that discussed longitudinal

Globally, cis and trans women face increasing rates of HIV, yet the uptake of existing HIV prevention medications often fails to meet their specific needs. This review examines HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use among cis and trans women, including adolescent girls and young women; newcomers and migrants; sex workers; women who use drugs; and women who have been incarcerated, acknowledging intersectionality exists between these groups. A review of peer-reviewed published literature was conducted, and findings specifically on oral PrEP were synthesized. This review highlights several key t

Public health authorities are broadly promoting a strategy known as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission in the context of high-risk sexual activity and injection drug use. However, there are several limitations to this strategy that are underrecognized. This article reviews the primary literature supporting the use of PrEP and explores the unintended consequences associated with its use. Current public health messaging indicates that PrEP reduces the risk of HIV transmission during sex by 99 percent; however, this figure is base

The aim of the paper is to apply the stochastic optimal control problem in order to optimize the number of individual which will have the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PReP) treatment in the stochastic model for HIV/AIDS with PReP. By using the stochastic maximum principle, we derive the stochastic optimal control of PReP for the unconstrained control problem. Furthermore, by combining the stochastic maximum principle with a version of the Lagrange multiplier method, we solve the PReP problem for two different types of budget constrains with a given constrain for the costs (possible of different k

OBJECTIVE: To present detailed analyses of long-term pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use and associated behaviors and perceptions among young Kenyan women.
DESIGN: Prospective, observational cohort.
METHODS: The Monitoring PrEP among Young Adult women Study involved 18 to 24-year-old women at high HIV risk initiating PrEP in Kisumu and Thika, Kenya. Visits for PrEP counseling and dispensing, HIV testing, and socio-behavioral data collection occurred at Month 1 and quarterly for 2 years. PrEP adherence was measured with pharmacy refill and real-time electronic monitoring, plus tenofovir dipho

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved oral daily tenofovir/emtricitabine (Truvada) for pre-exposure prophylaxis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in 2012 on the basis of two randomized controlled trials (RCTs), one in men who have sex with men (MSM) and another in HIV serodiscordant heterosexual couples. Subsequently, even greater efficacy has been demonstrated in MSM with rapid population-level incidence reductions in some locations. In contrast, studies of antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in heterosexual women showed only modest or no efficacy, largel

We introduce a model for HIV/AIDS which can be utilized to assess the impact of combining pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) use interventions (incorporating drug resistance). Mathematical and numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the effects of the combined controls in the presence of PrEP drug resistance. Our results predict a significant decrease in the number of new HIV infections when PrEP and ARVs are concurrently implemented at high levels. The results also reveal that PrEP drug resistance has the potential to slow down or reverse the effects of

Despite the availability of safe and effective human vaccines, rabies remains a global threat, with an estimated 60,000 human deaths annually attributed to rabies. Pre-exposure prophylaxis against rabies infection is recommended for travelers to countries where rabies is endemic, and also for those with a higher risk of exposure. In this study, the rabies-specific neutralising antibody responses in a cohort of rabies-vaccinated recipients over a period of twenty years have been assessed. In particular, the antibody response to primary vaccinations and boosters, and the waning of antibody post

Influenza remains a significant national health security threat, particularly for vulnerable populations, as existing control measures do not fully mitigate its impact. This gap in protection is especially pronounced early in a pandemic when a well-matched vaccine may not yet be available, as well as in populations unable to mount an optimal vaccine response. Clinical studies support pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) therapeutics as a promising complementary strategy to reduce influenza transmission and disease severity, potentially easing the strain on healthcare systems during outbreaks. This

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) encompasses the use of antiviral medications to prevent HIV acquisition in individuals without HIV who are at risk. Currently available HIV PrEP medications are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and integrase inhibitors. HIV testing is required to confirm that patients do not have an HIV infection before PrEP, when restarting PrEP after a long pause, and during ongoing maintenance of PrEP.
CONTENT: This article reviews current practices and recent developments in PrEP. Daily oral HIV PrEP is a common appr

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has proven to be a highly effective and safe way to prevent HIV infection. Seroconversion and primary HIV infection are exceptional if adherence to PrEP is good. However, primary HIV infection while using PrEP can occur, albeit rarely, and HIV drug resistance might develop. Furthermore, the scope of PrEP is expected to expand, and clinicians might face potential seroconversions and primary HIV infection in patients starting or taking PrEP. The characteristics of primary HIV infection in users of PrEP are poorly described. PrEP users present a lower viral load pe

BACKGROUND: People using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV are at high risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We aimed to assess the impact of doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy-PEP) on the incidences of STIs among PrEP users in the real-world setting.
METHODS: From February 2022 to November 2025, participants aged ≥18 years receiving HIV PrEP were prospectively enrolled. STI testing at baseline and follow-up included syphilis serology and multiplex real-time PCR assays for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Mycoplasma genitalium. Beginning in N
