RBP2 promotes gastric cancer cell migration by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA to upregulate SOX4 via sponging miR-212-3p.

Migration is a critical driver in the initiation and progression of gastric cancer. However, the involvement of RNA-RNA interactions in this process remains poorly understood. Previous work from our group and others has established RBP2 (RB-Binding Protein 2) and SOX4 (SRY-related high-mobility-group box 4) as key regulators of tumor development, influencing processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, and migration. Here, we demonstrate that RBP2 regulates SOX4 expression at both the mRNA and protein levels via a miRNA- and 3'UTR-dependent mechanism. Integrated bioinformat

Hijacking and rewiring of host CircRNA/miRNA/mRNA competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory networks by oncoviruses during development of viral cancers.

A significant portion of human cancers are caused by oncoviruses (12%-25%). Oncoviruses employ various strategies to promote their replication and induce tumourigenesis in host cells, one of which involves modifying the gene expression patterns of the host cells, leading to the rewiring of genes and resulting in significant changes in cellular processes and signalling pathways. In recent studies, a specific mode of gene regulation known as circular RNA (circRNA)-mediated competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks has emerged as a key player in this context. CircRNAs, a class of non-coding RNA m

lncRNA DSCR8 mediates miR-137/Cdc42 to regulate gastric cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and cell cycle as a competitive endogenous RNA.

lncRNA DSCR8 (Down syndrome critical region 8) is involved in progression of many cancers, but its specific role in gastric cancer (GC) is still unclear. Here, qRT-PCR detected upregulated expression of DSCR8 and Cdc42 and downregulated expression of miR-137 in GC. The protein expression level of Cdc42 in GC was upregulated as tested by western blot. Statistical analysis showed that DSCR8 was closely associated with some malignant clinicopathological features (such as tumor size, metastasis, and stage) in GC patients. Fluorescence in situ hybridization showed that DSCR8 was localized in the nu

Comprehensive analysis of an immune infiltrate-related competitive endogenous RNA network reveals potential prognostic biomarkers for non-small cell lung cancer.

Globally, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common malignancy and its prognosis remains poor because of the lack of reliable early diagnostic biomarkers. The competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network plays an important role in the tumorigenesis and prognosis of NSCLC. Tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) is valuable for predicting the response to immunotherapy and determining the prognosis of NSCLC patients. To understand the TIME-related ceRNA network, the RNA profiling datasets from the Genotype-Tissue Expression and The Cancer Genome Atlas databases were analyzed to identify t

Competitive Endogenous RNA Network Activates Host Immune Response in SARS-CoV-2-, panH1N1 (A/California/07/2009)-, and H7N9 (A/Shanghai/1/2013)-Infected Cells.

The global outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is still ongoing, as is research on the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular infection by coronaviruses, with the hope of developing therapeutic agents against this pandemic. Other important respiratory viruses such as 2009 pandemic H1N1 and H7N9 avian influenza virus (AIV), influenza A viruses, are also responsible for a possible outbreak due to their respiratory susceptibility. However, the interaction of these viruses with host cells and the regulation of post-transcriptional genes remains unclear. In th

The CircRNA/miRNA axis in breast cancer: From molecular mechanisms to clinical translation.

Breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality, with its etiology and pathogenesis involving dysregulated non-coding RNA expression, and the limited efficacy of current targeted therapies underscores an urgent need for novel drug targets and therapeutic modalities. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a type of noncoding RNA with a closed loop structure. Emerging evidence suggests that circRNAs function as ceRNAs or miRNA sponges, interact with proteins, and regulate gene transcription and translation. Current research primarily focuses on the ceRNA paradigm, often neglecti

The role of circular RNAs in mediating the protective effects of exercise against muscle degeneration and aging.

A newly identified specific category of non-coding RNA (ncRNA), circRNAs, is drawing interest for their role in controlling several biological processes including muscle regeneration, aging, and adaptation to physical activity. Unlike linear RNAs, circRNAs are very stable and can have long-lasting regulatory impact since they create a covalently closed loop structure. Emerging evidence indicates that circRNAs play a pivotal role in skeletal muscle biology by regulating myogenesis, satellite cell activation, protein synthesis, and cellular senescence-processes significantly influenced by aging.

Predicting disease associations based on the higher order structure of ceRNA networks.

Competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network regulation is an important posttranscriptional regulatory mechanism that plays an important role in physiological and pathological processes, and has been widely used in biomarker screening and regulatory factor studies of disease-related genes. However, existing studies have mainly focused on the association of a single type of RNA with disease, while studies targeting the application of ceRNA networks in disease prediction are still limited, so it is crucial to explore the potential of ceRNA networks in disease prediction. In this study, we propose

Computational Resources for Studying miRNA-lncRNA Interactions.

The discovery of microRNAs (miRNAs), small non-coding RNAs approximately 22 nucleotides in length, revolutionized our understanding of post-transcriptional gene regulation in the early part of the twenty-first century. Since then, non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have become a major focus of scientific research, revealing their critical roles in cellular processes. Advances in high-throughput sequencing technologies have brought long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs)-transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides-into the spotlight. While their functions are still being unraveled, lncRNAs have been identified as imp

Research progress on circRNAs in type 2 CRS.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) constitute a recently identified class of non-coding RNAs that are widely distributed in eukaryotes. Characterized by the absence of 5' caps and 3' polyadenylated tails, circRNAs may regulate gene expression through multiple mechanisms. Recent studies have shown that certain circRNAs contain binding sites complementary to microRNAs (miRNAs), enabling them to function as molecular sponges that sequester miRNAs and inhibit their suppressive effects on mRNA expression. Emerging evidence indicates that specific circRNAs are involved in the regulation of immune cells and cy
