INTRODUCTION: Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children. It predominantly arises in parameningeal and periorbital regions, as well as in other areas that do not typically contain striated muscle. Ovarian involvement is rare and may be attributed to the presence of ovarian stromal fibroblasts, or endometriotic stroma. Ovaries may be considered a favorable site for rhabdomyosarcoma. The disease typically presents in children under three years of age, often at an advanced stage and with nonspecific symptoms. Management requires a multimodal treatment approach.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft-tissue sarcoma in paediatric patients and may arise as a primary orbital neoplasm. Imaging studies show a unilateral solitary orbital lesion. With larger tumours, erosion of the adjacent orbital walls is a common accompanying bony change. We present an unusual case of rhabdomyosarcoma in a preschool girl with proptosis and temporal bossing. Imaging studies showed a homogeneous, well-delineated, extraconal mass of the right orbit with hyperostosis of the adjacent sphenoid bone. After excision of the mass and debulking of the sphenoid bone, histopathology

Nonpuerperal uterine inversion is a rare clinical condition that involves prolapse of the uterine fundus into the uterine cavity and vaginal vault and possibly passed the introitus. The majority of these cases commonly involve benign tumors such as leiomyoma. However, another common cause of nonpuerperal uterine inversion is due to malignancies such as sarcomas. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy of soft tissue cells that are common in children and rare in adults. One subtype called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is exceptionally rare. Therefore, report of embryonal rhabdomyosarc

Paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) accounts for only 7% of all the RMS cases. Due to the limited available data, there is no consensus on the diagnosis and management of the paratesticular tumors. Here, we interrogated two paratesticular RMS cases in 25 and 27-year-old men presenting with painless and rapidly growing mass in the scrotum. Whereas the data showed no upregulation of tumor markers such as β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), scrotal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging indicated the existence of paratesticul

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare solid tumor in childhood and adolescence. The higher incidence is predominant during the first two decades of life. According to the Intergroup RMS Study Group, the embryonal RMS (ERMS), botryoidal variant, constitutes a histological subtype characterized as a "grape-like" lesion of 2.0 cm to 9.5 cm. The treatment involves chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiotherapy. We present the case of a 14-year-old female patient diagnosed with ERMS, botryoidal variant, which originated in the uterine cervix with vaginal externalization. The initial therapeutic approach com

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is an aggressive mesenchymal tumor most commonly diagnosed in the pediatric population, and when occurring in adults, tends to develop in the deep soft tissue of the limbs. Primary uterine RMS comprises an even more restricted subset, with little known or reported when compared to most other gynecologic sarcomas. Our goal with this study was to retrospectively evaluate cases from two academic institutions and describe the main histopathologic findings of this rare gynecologic malignancy. A total of 8 cases were identified, consisting of 4 pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcomas (P

Spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare variant of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma that affects young males and most commonly involves the paratesticular region. We report a case of paratesticular spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma in a 14-year-old boy, who presented with a painless scrotal mass. Left inguinal orchidectomy was performed. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of the mass revealed spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma of the paratesticular region.

This multi-institutional report describes 8 cases of rhabdomyosarcoma in horses. Four neoplasms were in the tongue and other areas of the mouth or head, 2 were in the abdominal wall, and 1 each was in right shoulder muscles and heart. Four rhabdomyosarcomas that were less than 10 cm in diameter were treated by surgical excision or radiation with no recurrence. Two neoplasms greater than 10 cm in diameter in the abdominal wall and the right shoulder were considered inoperable and led to decisions to euthanize the horses. Two neoplasms were incidental findings at necropsy. All the neoplasms were

A 69-year-old woman presented with a 4-month history of dyspnoea and radiating upper-right quadrant pain and oedema in her lower extremities for more than 20 days. The ultrasonographic study of the heart revealed the adherence of a substantive hypoechoic mass (73 x 34 mm) to the antelateral wall of the pulmonary artery and resultant pulmonary stenosis. Computed tomographic imaging of the pulmonary artery revealed an irregularly shaped filling defect (approximately 41 x 39 x 59 mm) in the main pulmonary artery. The boundary of the defect was irregular, but demarcation with healthy tissue was cl

We report an unusual, rare case of primary epithelioid rhabdomyosarcoma of a lymph node in the parotid basin. A 72-year-old man with a history of squamous cell carcinoma of the forehead and cheek had a 5-cm mobile nontender mass of the parotid tail and right level II region. A positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan confirmed a hypermetabolic soft tissue mass in the right parotid gland. Histologic sections showed an intraparotid lymph node almost completely effaced by a centrally necrotic malignant epithelioid neoplasm consisting of uniform-appearing dyshesive cells exhibiting rh

OBJECTIVES: Rhabdomyosarcoma is an exceedingly rare tumor in adults, and standard chemotherapy used for children is much less effective in adults. This study examines short-term outcomes using doxorubicin, ifosfamide, and vincristine for adult rhabdomyosarcoma.
METHODS: Pathology records were searched for adults (age, >18) with rhabdomyosarcoma treated at our musculoskeletal tumor center. Treatment involved surgical resection, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy with doxorubicin, ifosfamide, and vincristine. Eleven met inclusion criteria. Mean age was 49 (range: 19-72). Tumors sites included

Laryngeal rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare disease. Only nine of these tumours have been adequately described in world literature in the adult population. Adult patients with laryngeal rhabdomyosarcoma often present at a later stage than other laryngeal tumours, including squamous cell carcinoma. Diagnosis is made by identification of cross-striations histochemically or cytoplasmic myoglobin by immunohistological methods. We present a 66-year-old woman with pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of her larynx. This is the first female in the adult age group to be presented. Surgical treatment with adjuvant ra

Primary gastric alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is an extremely rare condition. We report a case of a 32-year-old man who presented with abdominal distension and anorexia. Imaging revealed a gastric mass with peritoneal dissemination and vertebral metastasis. Endoscopy revealed a large, ulcerative lesion. Histopathology revealed small round cells in an alveolar pattern that were positive for desmin and myogenin. Despite the initiation of multimodal therapy, the patient developed septic shock and died 10 days after treatment. This case highlights the aggressive nature of primary gastric alveola

Spindle cell and sclerosing rhabdomyosarcoma (ssRMS) is a rare variant of rhabdomyosarcoma, which includes three distinct subtypes. In infants, these tumors are commonly associated with recurring fusions involving VGLL2 or NCOA2 and have a favorable prognosis. We present four cases of ssRMS and 16 additional cases from the literature, which show that these patients present with localized disease and have an excellent prognosis regardless of surgical margin or lack of radiation therapy. Molecularly defined spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma in infants is likely a biologically distinct entity which m

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a malignant neoplasm of skeletal muscle origin, is the most common soft tissue sarcoma seen in childhood and adolescence. The most frequent site is the head and neck accounting for 40% of all cases and other involved sites are genitourinary tract, retroperitoneum, and to a lesser extent, the extremities. RMS is relatively uncommon in the oral cavity and the involvement of the jaws is extremely rare. Here, we report a case of 50-year-old female with oral RMS involving maxillary alveolar region with clinical, radiological, histopathological and immunohistochemical finding

Rhabdomyosarcoma arising in the skull base has a feature of its natural history that is unique in oncology: by virtue of parameningeal location and invasive behavior, it can extend intracranially and produce neoplastic meningitis. The four anatomic sites with this potential are the nasopharynx/nasal cavity, the middle ear, the paranasal sinuses, and the infratemporal fossa/pterygopalatine space. Patients with these primary sites comprise 41% of patients with head and neck sites and 15% of all patients with rhabdomyosarcoma. Most are under 10 years old at diagnosis (72%) and are Intergroup Rhab
