Interdigitating Dendritic Cell Sarcoma (IDCS) is an infrequent dendritic cell tumor which mainly affects the lymphatic system. Intestinal metastasis from uterine IDCS is extremely rare. Here we report a case of a 76-year-old female presenting with vaginal bleeding and acute abdomen. The final diagnosis revealed a small bowel perforation due to metastatic involvement from uterine cervix IDCS. In this paper, we report the clinical manifestation, computed tomography and histopathological findings helpful for the accurate diagnosis of this rare tumor.

The World Health Organization introduced substantial revisions in the 2020 fifth edition of the classification system for bone and soft-tissue tumors, reorganizing what were previously called the Ewing sarcoma family of tumors or Ewing-like sarcomas into a new category of "undifferentiated small round cell sarcomas" based on molecular genetic characteristics. This reclassification established four distinct entities: Ewing sarcoma (ES), CIC-rearranged sarcoma, sarcoma with BCOR genetic alterations, and sarcoma with EWSR1-non-ETS fusion genes. Each subtype may demonstrate specific clinical, path

OBJECTIVES: Acute myeloid leukemia with CBFA2T3::GLIS2 fusion can initially present as extramedullary lesions (myeloid sarcoma), leading to a misdiagnosis of nonhematologic pediatric solid tumors.
METHODS: We characterized the clinicopathologic features of 4 cases of CBFA2T3::GLIS2 fusion-positive myeloid sarcoma in pediatric patients where the sarcoma presented either without leukemic involvement (isolated myeloid sarcoma; 3/4 [75%]) or had concurrent leukemic disease (1/4 [25%]).
RESULTS: All cases mimicked nonhematopoietic tumors at morphologic and immunophenotypic levels, so the initial

<p>Introduction: Mast cell sarcoma (MCS) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm with limited cytologic description, particularly in effusion specimens. Case Presentation: A 55-year-old man presented with a small intestinal tumor and peritoneal dissemination. Ascitic fluid cytology revealed numerous large atypical cells with round to horseshoe-shaped nuclei and abundant cytoplasm containing metachromatic granules. Some cells displayed hand mirror-like morphology. Immunocytochemistry showed CD117 and tryptase positivity, and a KIT D816Y mutation was identified. The diagnosis of MCS was later confirme

The phenomenon of histiocytic/dendritic cell sarcomas arising through transformation of a pre-existed lymphoproliferative disease is called transdifferentiation. Langerhans cell sarcoma transdifferentiating from chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma is extremely rare and all the reported cases were localized in lymph nodes. We present a case of concurrent cutaneous localization of Langerhans cell sarcoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, in which the chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma preceded the development of the Langerhans c

Undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma (USRCS) is an extremely rare and highly aggressive group of malignant neoplasms affecting bones and soft tissues. USRCSs, particularly extraosseous variants pose significant diagnostic challenges due to their rarity, similar clinicoradiological features, nonspecific morphology and the necessity for comprehensive molecular analyses. This paper discusses a rare interesting case of retroperitoneal USRCS in a 12-year-old female with a five-day history of diarrhea and slight right lower abdominal pain. Hematological profile, renal function test, liver funct

An improved understanding of the CT characteristics for histologically confirmed primary intestinal tumors would be helpful for guiding prognosis and treatment plans in affected dogs. This retrospective, multi-center, analytical study aimed to evaluate the CT characteristics for the differentiation of adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, and spindle cell sarcoma (SCS) in dogs. Thirty-seven dogs who underwent contrast CT and histopathological examinations were included (adenocarcinomas, n = 11; lymphomas, n = 12; SCS, n = 14). Quantitative and qualitative CT parameters, including tumor morphology, contras

Gastrointestinal mast cell sarcoma is a rare variant of mastocytosis. It is a unifocal tumor with high destructive capacity and metastatic potential. Diagnosis of mast cell sarcoma can be challenging and might be so delayed that unfavorable prognosis may be expected. In this case report, we will describe our experience with a case of mast cell sarcoma in the small intestine of an elderly woman, which was diagnosed early on throughout the course of her disease and successfully treated. The patient was a 59-year-old woman who presented with abdominal pain, flushing, weight loss, and vomiting. Im

Two cases of true histiocytic lymphoma of the small intestine occurred in middle-aged patients, manifesting as tumors causing intestinal obstruction. One of the patients died of uncontrollable local and metastatic disease, 16 months after surgery and polychemotherapy, and the other patient is alive 12 months after surgery and chemotherapy. The histologic characteristics of the tumor cells, namely complex nuclear outlines and abundant variably eosinophilic cytoplasm, suggested histiocytic differentiation. Both cases had negative results for B-cell and T-cell markers but stained for the histiocy

Undifferentiated solid tumors with small blue round cell histology and expression of CD99 mostly resemble Ewing sarcoma. However, they also may include other tumors such as mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, synovial sarcoma, or small cell osteosarcoma. Definitive classification usually requires detection of entity-specific mutations. While this approach identifies the majority of Ewing sarcomas, a subset of lesions remains unclassified and, therefore, has been termed "Ewing-like sarcomas" or small blue round cell tumors not otherwise specified. We developed an approach for further characterization o

Clear cell sarcoma-like tumour of the gastrointestinal tract (CCSLGT) is a rare entity which has been recently described as late as 2003. Only around 70 cases have been reported in the English literature till date. CCSLGT is mostly seen in young adults in the late 20 s and early 30 s. CCSLGT are aggressive tumours. They are similar to the clear cell sarcoma of the soft tissue but lack melanocytic differentiation, retain neuroendocrine differentiation, and have osteoclastic giant cells. EWSR1-CREB1 fusion is characteristic of these tumours. Complete surgical excision is the best treatment optio

Chest wall sarcomas are rare and may exhibit aggressive behavior, posing diagnostic challenges-particularly in young adults. Although multidisciplinary treatments involving chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery are recommended, prognosis remains poor. We report a case of a 43-year-old man referred with left-sided chest pain, dyspnea, and massive pleural effusion. Cytological analysis of the effusion and biopsy revealed small, round, atypical cells, and initial immunohistochemistry suggested Ewing sarcoma. During workup, the patient's symptoms worsened, tumor lysis syndrome developed, and he

The aim of this paper is a clinical and anatomopathological demonstration of a malignant lesion, a gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (GNET), as an exceedingly rare cause of ileus in the pediatric population. Specifically, we present the case of a 12-year-old boy who showed dramatic weight loss, hypochromic anemia, fever, dehydration, exaggerated granulation of the terminal ileum, and mechanical ileus due to the obstruction by an intramural tumor of the small intestine. A 50cm-long part of the small intestine with pathological stricture was surgically removed, sampled and routinely fixed a

BACKGROUND: Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital anomaly. Its co-occurrence with multiple primary malignancies is exceedingly uncommon. Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC) represent two distinct neoplasms with markedly different biological behaviors and treatment sensitivities. To our knowledge, the synchronous presentation of LGMS and SCLC in a patient with SIT has not been previously described.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 72-year-old man with known SIT presented with respiratory symptoms. Imaging revealed a left hilar mass causing obstructive ate

Recurrent chromosomal translocations in neoplasms often generate hybrid genes that play critical roles in tumorigenesis. Desmoplastic small round-cell tumor (DSRCT) is an aggressive malignancy associated with the chromosomal translocation t(11;22)(p13;q12). This translocation generates a chimeric transcription factor, EWS-WT1, which consists of the transcriptional activation domain of the Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) protein and the DNA binding domain of the Wilms' tumor 1 (WT1) protein. One of the splice variants, EWS-WT1(-KTS) lacks three amino acid residues (Lys-Thr-Ser) in the DNA binding domain

Brachyury is a transcription factor of the T-box family typically expressed in notochord and chordoma. Some studies report brachyury as highly specific for chordoma, whereas others have concluded that brachyury is expressed in many types of common carcinomas by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry and could be involved in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastatic process. In this study, we immunohistochemically evaluated 5229 different tumors for nuclear brachyury expression using a new rabbit monoclonal antibody and automated immunostaining (Leic

The biologic relationship between small B-cell lymphoma and histiocytic sarcoma (HS) when occurring in the same patient remains unclear, though recent data suggest a possible 'transdifferentiation' from follicular lymphoma (FL) to HS. We investigated the clonal relationship in two cases of small B-cell lymphoma with subsequent HS. Case 1: A 62-year-old female with splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) developed HS in a groin lymph node 1 year after the primary diagnosis. PCR/sequence analysis of the IGH gene showed a monoclonal rearrangement carrying an identical nucleotide sequence of PCR pro

BACKGROUND: Undifferentiated small round cell sarcomas (URCSs) represent a diagnostic challenge, and their optimal treatment is unknown. We aimed to define the clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcome of URCS patients.
METHODS: URCS patients treated from 1983 to 2019 at 21 worldwide sarcoma reference centres were retrospectively identified. Based on molecular assessment, cases were classified as follows: (1) CIC-rearranged round cell sarcomas, (2) BCOR::CCNB3-rearranged round cell sarcomas, (3) unclassified URCSs. Treatment, prognostic factors and outcome were reviewed.
RESULTS: In t

Undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma (USRCS) are a rare, aggressive group of tumors associated with rapid progression, metastasis, and poor prognosis. Preoperative diagnosis remains elusive, particularly for extraosseous variants, and effective treatments are lacking. This case reports the use of pembrolizumab, bevacizumab, and conventional chemotherapy (gemcitabine plus paclitaxel) as a first-line treatment for a patient with primary USRCS in the gallbladder neck; the patient achieved remarkable partial remission for more than 9 months. This case represents the second documented instance

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is an extremely rare and aggressive malignant neoplasm of hematopoietic origin that shows morphologic and immunophenotypic evidence of histiocytic differentiation. In approximately 25% of the cases, presumed transdifferentiation of a preexisting hematolymphoid disorder can be demonstrated. Various extranodal sites, particularly the gastrointestinal tract, soft tissue, skin, and spleen, can be involved. Enhanced CT and FDG PET/CT findings of extranodal histiocytic sarcoma have been barely reported. We present a case with extranodal HS originating in the small intestine
