BACKGROUND: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common type of idiopathic scoliosis, affecting approximately 0.61%-6.15% adolescents worldwide. To date, the results on the relationship between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and AIS were inconsistent, and the association between screen time (ST) and AIS remained unclear. This study aimed to describe MVPA and ST among adolescents, and to explore the independent and joint associations between PA, ST, and AIS.
METHODS: A frequency-matched case-control study based on the 2021 Chinese School-based Scoliosis Screening Pr

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behaviors, including screen time, in childhood have been associated with an increased risk for overweight. Beginning in infancy, we sought to reduce screen time and television exposure and increase time spent in interactive play as one component of a responsive parenting (RP) intervention designed for obesity prevention.
METHODS: The Intervention Nurses Start Infants Growing on Healthy Trajectories (INSIGHT) study is a randomized trial comparing a RP intervention with a safety control intervention. Primiparous mother-newborn dyads (N = 279) were randomized after childbir

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is considered as one of the malignant tumors with poorest survival rate (less than 5% 5-year survival). Despite new developments in imaging techniques, surgery and oncologic treatments, survival rate remains unchanged. In order to improve the outcome of this disease, it would be of interest the development of a screening program trying to detect small asymptomatic tumors or precursor lesions at the time when the disease is still at a curable stage. Although screening in general population is not feasible nowadays, screening programs in high risk individuals may be of hel

OBJECTIVE: Experienced 3 years of pandemic-induced home life, in the post-epidemic period, preschoolers in China are falling short of the World Health Organization's standards for screen time and outdoor activities. This notably impacts their physical well-being. The study aims to probe the associations between screen time, outdoor activities, and the physical health of preschoolers, offering insights to shape interventions targeting myopia and obesity prevention in children.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Guangdong Province, involving a representative sample of 23,992 pres

Background/Objectives: Despite existing guidelines on limiting screen time, children and adolescents are spending an increasing number of hours in front of digital devices. This increase raises concerns about long-term health consequences, particularly in the context of the growing prevalence in childhood overweight and obesity. The aim of this review is to present the current state of knowledge regarding the relationship between increased screen time and weight-related health outcomes in the pediatric population. It also highlights the need for health education targeting both children and par

We analyze views of young children's screen time among mothers with low incomes in the United States. Public health messages direct parents to limit screen time for young children and to watch with them. Research is limited with racially diverse and low-income parents to understand their views of screen time, especially for preschoolers. We drew on interviews with 63 mothers who had preschool-age children and lower incomes, most of whom identified as women of color. We analyzed what children's screen time meant to mothers and how they used it in parenting. Mothers reported that children often

BACKGROUND: Higher screen viewing time (SVT) in childhood has been associated with adverse health outcomes, but the predictors of SVT in early childhood are poorly understood. We examined the sociodemographic and behavioral predictors of total and device-specific SVT in a Singaporean cohort.
METHODS: At ages 2 and 3 years, SVT of 910 children was reported by their parents. Interviewer-administered questionnaires assessed SVT on weekdays and weekends for television, computer, and hand-held devices. Multivariable linear mixed-effect models were used to examine the associations of total and devi

Myopia is an increasingly common refractive disorder in children, with growing concern regarding the potential role of screen time and digital device use in its development and progression. This systematic review assessed the association between screen-related behaviours and myopia in European children and adolescents. A systematic search of Ovid Embase, Ovid MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane/CENTRAL was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidance. Original English-language studies published within the last 10 years were included if they involved participants aged <18 years, were c

Childhood myopia is increasingly discussed in relation to digital device use, yet total screen duration is biologically nonspecific (not tied to a single biological cause) and may combine outdoor-light deficit, near work intensity, educational routines, and sleep/circadian timing. This critical narrative review used structured database searches to support transparent source identification, not systematic completeness, quantitative pooling, or formal risk-of-bias grading. We narratively appraised evidence by design, exposure specificity, outcome specificity, temporality, and clinical directness
