Primary Deltoid Repair for Ankle Fracture Using All-Suture Anchors.

Primary repair of the deltoid ligament is a common surgical option for unstable ankle fracture. However, controversy exists regarding whether such repair is necessary or provides any benefit to patient outcomes. A retrospective study was performed following acute deltoid repairs using all-suture bone anchors. Patients at 2 surgical centers were included when they were over 18 years old at surgery, had a medial clear space (MCS) greater than 4 mm preoperatively, and had at least 6 months of follow-up. Subjective outcomes were measured with PROMIS, FAAM, and numeric rating scale. Preoperative an

Arthroscopic Onlay Biceps Tenodesis Utilizing 2 Knotless All-Suture Anchors.

BACKGROUND: Tenodesis is an effective surgical technique for the management of a pathologic long head of the biceps tendon. Tenodesis is performed with either an onlay (tendon opposed to cortical surface) or inlay (tendon docked into a reamed intra-cortical tunnel). Both techniques can be performed either from a subpectoral location, which is typically done through an open approach, or from a suprapectoral location, which is performed arthroscopically. The arthroscopic suprapectoral approach, when compared with its subpectoral counterpart, has been shown to report similar patient outcomes and

Self-tapping ability of carbon fibre reinforced polyetheretherketone suture anchors.

An experimental and computational investigation of the self-tapping ability of carbon fibre reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR-PEEK) has been conducted. Six CFR-PEEK suture anchor designs were investigated using PEEK-OPTIMA® Reinforced, a medical grade of CFR-PEEK. Experimental tests were conducted to investigate the maximum axial force and torque required for self-taping insertion of each anchor design. Additional experimental tests were conducted for some anchor designs using pilot holes. Computational simulations were conducted to determine the maximum stress in each anchor design at vari

Laminoplasty using Twinfix suture anchors to maintain cervical canal expansion.

Open-door laminoplasty is a commonly performed procedure for the treatment of multiple level cervical spinal stenosis. One complication of this procedure is closure of the hinge and subsequent restenosis. Twinfix suture anchor was used in laminoplasty to stabilize cervical canal expansion. 53 patients with multiple level cervical spinal stenosis underwent laminoplasty. A unilateral open-door technique was performed for the lesion level and the elevated lamina was fixed to the lateral mass using Twinfix suture anchors. Radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography (CT) scanni

Surgical correction of lower eyelid paralysis with suture screw anchors.

Among the major disorders of the lower eyelid due to peripheral facial paralysis are lagophthalmos, eyelid ptosis and ectropion, with or without epiphora. There are several surgical techniques for correcting ectropion and lower eyelid ptosis. This article describes a modification of the classic technique of suspension using tendons, which consists of anchoring the tendon to the frontal apophysis of the maxillary bone and external orbital bone with suture screw anchors. Using the described technique, we obtained significant improvement of epiphora.

Biomechanical comparison of traditional anchors to all-suture anchors in a double-row rotator cuff repair cadaver model.

BACKGROUND: To further reduce the invasiveness of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair surgery the all-suture anchor has been developed. The all-suture anchor requires less bone removal and reduces the potential of loose body complications. The all-suture anchor must also have adequate biomechanical strength for the repair to heal. The hypothesis is there is no significant difference in the biomechanical performance of supraspinatus repairs using an all-suture anchor when compared to traditional solid-body suture anchors. METHODS: Using nine shoulders per group, the supraspinatus tendon was disse

Biomechanical Effects of Partial Decortication on All-Suture and Conventional Suture Anchors in Different Bone Densities.

While biomechanical testing has shown a correlation between decortication and anchor failure load, the effects of partial decortication on the biomechanical properties of all-suture anchors remain unclear. We aimed to evaluate the biomechanical effects of partial decortication on all-suture anchors and conventional suture anchors in Sawbones of varying densities. Suture anchors were tested in nondecorticated, partially decorticated, and completely decorticated Sawbones. Two types of all-suture anchors and one type of conventional anchor were evaluated. Two types of biphasic polyurethane foam w

The use of suture anchors to repair the ruptured quadriceps tendon.

Quadriceps tendon rupture is an incapacitating injury that usually requires surgical repair. Traditional repair methods involve transpatellar suture tunnels, but recent reports have introduced the idea of using suture anchors to repair the ruptured tendon. We present 5 cases of our technique of using suture anchors to repair the ruptured quadriceps tendon.

[Scapho-lunate ligament reconstruction with Mitek suture anchors. Initial clinical results].

The scapholunate dissociation is an often misjudged lesion of carpal ligaments as clinical and radiological signs often don't allow a clear interpretation. Apart from chronical courses with increasing arthrosis the consequences are limited and more difficult operations. The application of Mitek suture anchors is a new and simple supplement to large-scale operative reconstructions of ligaments or partial arthrodesis. Of nine reconstructions of the scapholunate interosseous ligament using this anchor method so far only one relaps occurred.

Quadriceps Tendon Repair Using Knotless All-Suture Anchors With Transosseous Fixation.

Quadriceps tendon ruptures are significant injuries that impair knee function and mobility. Complete disruption of the knee extensor mechanism requires prompt operative repair to restore function. The 2 most popular techniques for tendon repair use either transosseous drill tunnels with suture fixation or unicortical drill holes with suture anchors. Each method is associated with advantages and disadvantages. Challenges of transosseous suture repair include knot volume and an increased risk of repair gapping after tensioning. Complications related to traditional suture anchor repair often are

Distal Biceps Tendon Repair: An Arthroscopic-Assisted Technique With Suture Anchors.

Distal biceps tendon ruptures are rare injuries that can lead to significant limitations in forearm supination strength and elbow flexion. Although conservative treatment leads to satisfactory results in many cases, surgical treatment is indicated in high-demanding patients, heavy workers, and athletes. Many different surgical techniques have been described, but the percentage of complications after surgery remains high (almost 25%). The purpose of this article is to describe our preferred surgical approach for acute distal biceps tendon ruptures with an arthroscopic-assisted technique and sut

Long-term clinical outcome of arthroscopic Bankart repair with suture anchors.

BACKGROUND: The most common surgical technique in traumatic anterior shoulder instability is the arthroscopic Bankart repair, which has excellent short-term results. The long-term results of the arthroscopic Bankart repair are less frequently studied, with a high recurrence rate of 23% to 35%. The aim of this study was to evaluate the medium-term to long-term results of arthroscopic Bankart repair using suture anchors and to identify specific risk factors for recurrent instability. METHODS: Included were 147 patients after traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation who underwent an arthroscopic

Suture Anchors Fixation in MPFL Reconstruction using a Bioactive Synthetic Ligament.

Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction has a key role in patellofemoral instability surgery. Many surgical techniques have been described so far using different types of grafts (autologous, heterologous, or synthetic) and fixation techniques. The hereby described technique for MPFL reconstruction relies on the use of a biosynthetic graft (LARS Arc Sur Tille, France). Fixation is obtained by means of suture anchors on the patellar side and a resorbable interference screw on the femoral side locating the insertion point according to Schottle et al. An early passive range of motion
