Laparotomy revealed peritoneal tuberculosis in a 32-year-old woman with pulmonary tuberculosis, ascites, a large pelvic mass, and an elevated serum CA 125 level. Postoperatively, after further treatment with antituberculosis agents, the CA 125 returned to normal and the patient has been well for 22 months.

Traditional cytogenetic studies of ovarian stromal tumors are few, although trisomy 12 has been frequently documented with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Ovarian thecomas are rare sex cord-stromal tumors of the ovary. These tumors are estimated to account for 1% of all ovarian neoplasms. Thecomas are primarily composed of cells that resemble theca cells, which are involved in estrogen production. Seventy thecomas of the ovary were evaluated to ascertain their histopathologic spectrum. The tumors occurred over a wide age range (average 49.6 y). Presentation in the form of pelvic or abdominal pain was uncommon, but postmenopausal bleeding was relatively frequent. Although rare, fibroepithelial polyp of the ureter is the most common type of benign urinary tract mesodermal tumor. It may cause symptoms such as hematuria, dysuria, and flank pain or be asymptomatic. Muscinous breast carcinoma occurred in a 67-year-old true hermaphrodite who had been reared as a male. The peripheral blood karyotype was 46, XX. A left ovary and right ovotestis were intra-abdominal. Other tumors included an ovarian thecoma and an intestinal leiomyoma. Two previously reported cases of breast cancer in true hermaphrodites are cited.

Ovarian leiomyoma is one of the rare solid tumours of ovary, accounting for 0.5-1% of the benign tumours of the ovary. We report one such case which presented in a postmenopausal woman. The differential diagnosis includes ovarian fibroma, thecoma, cellular fibroma and sclerosing stromal tumour. Masson's trichrome staining helps to distinguish fibrous and smooth muscle components of the lesion and confirms the diagnosis of ovarian leiomyoma. Hence, ovarian leiomyoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of ovarian spindle cell tumours.

In this article, we described an ovarian sclerosing stromal tumor (SST) in a young woman with ectopic pregnancy. It is important to distinguish SST from fibroma, thecoma, and lipoid cell tumors clinically and histologically. Several unique histologic features including pseudolobulation, sclerosis and prominent vascularity are clearly reflected at histopathological findings. The SST cells were immunopositive for CD34, Desmin and SMA, and negative for factor VIII-related antigen, CD31, S-100, ER and PR. The patient's postoperative recovery was smooth and she was discharged after 21 days.
