Doppler Ultrasound Findings in Filler-Related Facial Vascular Adverse Events: An International Multicenter Study.

Background: Vascular adverse events (VAEs) related to facial filler injections are rare but potentially severe complications. Doppler ultrasound has emerged as an adjunct imaging tool for evaluating vascular compromise; however, Doppler findings in facial VAEs remain insufficiently characterized. Objectives: To characterize Doppler ultrasound findings associated with filler-related facial VAEs and to assess whether Doppler patterns differ according to prior hyaluronidase administration. Methods: This international multicenter retrospective observational study included 100 patients with clinica

Cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination.

In December 2019, a new infectious pathogen named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was identified in Wuhan, China. Transmitted through respiratory droplets, SARS-CoV-2 is the causative pathogen of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although this new COVID-19 infection is known to cause primarily interstitial pneumonia and respiratory failure, it is often associated with cutaneous manifestations as well. These manifestations with COVID-19 can be classified into seven categories: (i) chilblain-like skin eruption (e.g., COVID toes), (ii) urticaria-like skin eruption,

Antiphospholipid antibodies among anti-U1-70 kDa autoantibody positive patients with mixed connective tissue disease.

OBJECTIVE: The association between antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and recurrent venous and/or arterial thrombotic events, fetal loss, and thrombocytopenia in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has been well documented. Such an association has not been carefully assessed in mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). Our aim was to assess the prevalence and clinical significance of aPL in anti-U1-70 kDa autoantibody positive patients with MCTD. METHODS: We compared 48 consecutive anti-U1-70 kDa autoantibody positive patients with MCTD versus 59 consecutive anti-U1-70 kDa autoantibody negative p

Cutaneous vasculitis in autoinflammatory diseases.

Autoinflammatory diseases (AIDs) characterized by recurrent episodes of localized or systemic inflammation are disorders of the innate immune system. Skin lesions are commonly found in AIDs and cutaneous vasculitis can coexist with AIDs and even present as the most striking feature. This review aims to focus on the frequent cutaneous vasculitis association in three monogenic AIDs including familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), deficiency of adenosine deaminase type 2 (DADA2), and the recently identified adult-onset VEXAS (vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, autoinflammatory, somatic) syndrome. Skin Manifestations Among Individuals With Hepatitis C Infection.

Hepatitis C, an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), is a growing global health concern, with an increasing annual incidence of primary disease and a notable likelihood of developing extrahepatic manifestations, including dermatological conditions. Studies have explored the relationship between hepatitis C infection and dermatologic manifestations, but there has been a limited number of comprehensive review manuscripts. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of studies conducted over a 10-year period, highlighting the relationship between hepatitis C infec

Ulcerative paraneoplastic dermatomyositis secondary to metastatic breast cancer.

A 40-year-old Chinese-American woman with breast carcinoma metastatic to her lungs presented with a 3-month history of erosions on her inner thighs (Figure 1) and medial left shoulder. Faint livedo reticularis was evident on her legs as well. She had difficulty in walking and raising her shoulders. Her cutaneous examination was also notable for cuticular erythema (Figure 2) and mild periorbital erythema and edema. She had no systemic or rheumatologic complaints other than some difficulty in swallowing. Her blood chemistry values were notable for a creatinine kinase of 564 IU/L (5-200 IU/L), al

[Systemic sclerosis associated with microscopic polyangitis presenting with high myeloperoxidase (MPO) titer and necrotizing angitis: a case report].

We herein report a case of systemic sclerosis associated with microscopic polyangitis. The patient was a 54-year-old woman, who was diagnosed to have systemic sclerosis at a hospital in 1992, but she did not receive any medical treatment. She had been suffering from pyrexia, paresthesia and muscle weakness of both lower limbs since the beginning of 2001, and was introduced to our hospital. She showed hardened skin extending from her fingers to upper arms, weakness in both lower limbs and livedo reticularis. Her laboratory test showed WBC 11, 600/microliter, CRP 6.63 mg/dl, CH 50 24 U/ml, anti

The antiphospholipid/cofactor syndromes: a primary variant with antibodies to beta 2-glycoprotein-I but no antibodies detectable in standard antiphospholipid assays.

BACKGROUND: Most systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with two or more clinical manifestations of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and negative antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) have antibodies to beta 2-glycoprotein-I (a beta 2 GP-I). Herein we describe a similar set of circumstances, but in patients without evidence of SLE. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We studied 6 patients with recurrent venous and/or arterial thromboses without aPL as detected by routine assays nor clinical or serological evidence of other autoimmune disease. Immunoglobin (Ig) G and IgM antibodies to bovine and human p

Concomitant Severe Psoriasis and Bullous Pemphigoid Induced by COVID-19.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), first isolated in Wuhan, China, is currently a pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic, pulmonary issues were the most discussed and studied. However, now 3 years later, the role of the dermatologist has become increasingly central. Often the diversity in the presentation of these manifestations has made it difficult for the dermatologist to recognize them. In addition to the common symptoms involving fever, cough, dyspnea, and hypogeusia/hyposmia that have been widely discussed in t
