Maxillary dental arch biometry: assessment with fetal MR imaging.

OBJECTIVE: To define normal growth of the fetal maxillary dental arch using magnetic resonance imaging. METHOD: Four hundred twenty-four consecutive fetuses (18 to 37 weeks) with a morphologically normal anatomy or only minor malformations, not affecting bone growth and face anatomy were included. On axial T2-weighted images the dental arch length and width were measured. The measurements were correlated with gestational age and the biparietal diameter (BPD) of the fetal head using correlation and regression analysis. RESULTS: A linear growth relationship was observed between the dental arch

Interocular difference in refraction and ocular biometry in children with anisometropia.

To examine the association between interocular difference in refraction and ocular biometry in children with anisometropia. This analysis included 91 children aged 6-16 years with anisometropia, identified from a cross-sectional, school-based study of 765 children. All children underwent a comprehensive ophthalmic examination, including cycloplegic biometry and refractometry. The refractive lens power (RLP) was calculated using Bennett's equation. The mean interocular difference in SE was 2.24 ± 1.48D. Compared to the contralateral eye, the more myopic eye or less hyperopic eye exhibited a sig

Correlation of retinal curvature with ocular biometry in patients with myopia.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the relationship between retinal curvature (RC) and ocular biometry in patients with myopia. METHOD: The clinical data of 74 patients with myopia (148 eyes) were retrospectively analyzed. Macular 24×20 mm optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans were acquired using an ultra-widefield swept-source optical coherence tomography (UWF SS-OCT) system. The software then identified the Bruch's membrane and integrated it with the axial length (AL) for morphological correction, yielding a fitted three-dimensional retinal model. From this model, an RC map was generated, detailing th

Optimization of biometry for best refractive outcome in cataract surgery.

High-precision biometry and accurate intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation have become essential components of cataract surgery. In clinical practice, IOL power calculation involves measuring parameters such as corneal power and axial length and then applying a power calculation formula. The importance of posterior corneal curvature in determining the true power of the cornea is increasingly being recognized, and newer investigative modalities that can estimate both the anterior and posterior corneal power are becoming the standard of care. Optical biometry, especially using swept-source bi

In vivo biometry in the mouse eye with low coherence interferometry.

PURPOSE: A major drawback of the mouse model of myopia is that the ocular dimensions cannot be measured in vivo, and that histological techniques post-mortem suffer from limited resolution. We have tested the potential of a newly developed technique, optical low coherence interferometry (OLCI), adapted for short measurement distances by Meditec, Carl Zeiss, Jena, Germany (the "ACMaster"). Using this technique, ocular biometry was performed in mice with normal vision and after deprivation of form vision. METHODS: Axial eye length, corneal thickness and anterior chamber depth were measured in 2

[Application and results of biometry of the eye in implantation of intraocular lenses].

Before extracapsular cataract surgery with implantation of a Binkhorst four-loop lens, keratometric readings were taken and anterior chamber depth was measured with a pachometer in 52 patients. The axial eye length was determined with A-scan echography using the Kretz technique 7200 MA unit with a 8 MHz probe and the immersion technique. The biometric control after surgery showed no change in the spherical equivalent of keratometric values. The mean anterior chamber depth was 3.19 mm (+/- 0.3 mm). No systematic correlation between anterior chamber depth before and after surgery was found. The

Qualifying optical biometry data before cataract surgery using autoencoders.

PURPOSE: To develop, implement and demonstrate a data driven strategy to identify 'suspects' and 'outliers' in datasets of biometric measurements taken before cataract surgery. METHODS: A shallow autoencoder with one hidden layer and 3 neurons was trained on a large multicentre dataset (N = 152,397, 9 clinical centres) from the IOLMaster 700 including axial length (AL), central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT) and corneal front surface radius (R). Measurements were identified as 'suspects' or 'outliers' depending on the mean squared prediction error.

Salivary gland biometry in female patients with eating disorders.

High-resolution greyscale ultrasound is a generally accepted diagnostic tool for salivary gland enlargement, although no standard biometrical data for the sizes of unaffected parotid and submandibular glands exist. A lot of case reports describe non-inflammatory swelling of salivary glands as symptoms of eating disorders like anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. They might be the only visible sign for the disease. With our prospective study we tried to quantify and compare biometrically the salivary gland in eating disordered patients, obese and normal-weight, healthy controls. A total of 70 f

Correlation of Ocular Biometry with Axial Length in Elderly Japanese.

PURPOSE: Ocular parameters are not only useful for diagnosing diseases but also for guiding treatment approaches. A lot of previous studies have reported ocular parameters and its relations before cataract surgery. However, despite ethnic differences in ocular biometry, few reports have dealt with Japanese. Hence, this retrospective cross-sectional study aimed to measure parameters of preoperative cataract patients and examines the correlations between each parameter in Japanese elderly people. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The 210 subjects had their ocular axial lengths measured with OA-2000. The en
