Effect of fluoride on the morphology of calcium phosphate crystals grown on acid-etched human enamel.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of fluoride ion concentration on the morphology of calcium phosphate crystals grown on acid-etched enamel as a model for tooth enamel erosion. Samples were immersed in calcification solution for 16 h and changes in crystal morphology were monitored by field emission scanning electron microscopy. Without fluoride, plate-like octacalcium phosphate crystals (20 nm thick, 2-10 microm wide) were formed. With 1-10 mg/l fluoride, arrays of denser needle-like nanocrystals (20-30 nm wide, >500 nm in length) were formed. We conclude that there is a minimal

The relationship of bone mass and fracture history to fluoride and calcium intake: a study of three communities.

Stimulated by the suggestion that water fluoride greater than 1 mg/L may protect against osteoporosis, we studied bone mass of women in three rural communities with differing mineral content of the water supply. Mean fluoride and calcium of community drinking waters were 4 mg/L and 16 mg/L, respectively, high fluoride community; 1 mg/L and 375 mg/L, respectively, high calcium community; and 1 mg/L and 65 mg/L, respectively, low calcium community. Bone mass was measured by single photon absorptiometry, and women were interviewed about fracture history, dietary intake, and other important covari

Doping Engineering Inspired Calcium Fluoride Nanozymes With Multifunctional Oxidative Storm for Enhanced Radio-Catalytic Therapy.

Radiotherapy, particularly radio-catalytic therapy, demonstrates immense potential in eliciting anti-tumor effects. However, its efficacy is substantially constrained by the low energy conversion efficiency of x-rays, limited reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation pathways, and the hypoxia-induced radio-resistance within the tumor microenvironment. Herein, we developed a spherical Cu/Lu/Tb co-doped CaF2 nanozyme coated with hyaluronic acid (CLTC@HA), which simultaneously exhibits highly efficient energy conversion and multifunctional catalytic activities, enabling a synergistically enhanced

Calcium, magnesium and aluminium ions as decontaminating agents against dermal fluoride absorption following hydrofluoric acid exposure.

The fluoride ions of the industrially largely irreplaceable, locally corrosive hydrofluoric acid (HF) can scavenge cations in biological tissues, which explains their high toxic potential, and also leads to local acidification through proton release. The influence of three complexing agents, calcium (Ca2+) gluconate (as 2.5% Ca2+gel and individually (2.84%) or commercially (10%) formulated Ca2+solution), magnesium (Mg2+) gluconate (2.84%) solution and aluminium (Al3+) solution (Hexafluorine®, pure and diluted) on the absorption of fluoride following HF exposure (1-3 min, 100 μl, 30%/0.64 cm2)

Evolving Role of Molecular Imaging with (18)F-Sodium Fluoride PET as a Biomarker for Calcium Metabolism.

(18)F-sodium fluoride (NaF) as an imaging tracer portrays calcium metabolic activity either in the osseous structures or in soft tissue. Currently, clinical use of NaF-PET is confined to detecting metastasis to the bone, but this approach reveals indirect evidence for disease activity and will have limited use in the future in favor of more direct approaches that visualize cancer cells in the read marrow where they reside. This has proven to be the case with FDG-PET imaging in most cancers. However, a variety of studies support the application of NaF-PET to assess benign osseous diseases. In p
