[The burnout syndrome of the caregiver].

SLAVES TO THEIR WORK: The Anglo-Saxons were the first to evoke the "burn out syndrome" although the Canadians prefer to use "burning" in order to emphasize these situations in which the person is as it were literally "consumed by his/her work". The burn-out syndrome more specifically involves all those who have chosen to devote their lives to others. This is the case notably with health care workers because they are in direct contact with suffering, poverty, hardship, disease and death. THE ENHANCING FACTORS: There is no particular pre-morbid personality. Nevertheless, various factors can be a

Move&Connect-Caregivers: A virtual group intervention for caregivers of youth experiencing persisting symptoms after concussion.

Caregivers play a critical role in supporting youth experiencing persisting symptoms after concussion (PSAC). However, there are limited empirically validated interventions tailored to the specific needs of caregivers, such as improving concussion knowledge and supporting psychosocial wellbeing. This study aims to describe the development of a virtual group intervention for caregivers of youth experiencing PSAC, Move&Connect-Caregivers (M&C-C), and examine its feasibility. Nine mothers participated across two M&C-C groups. Feasibility metrics and semi-structured interviews were collected and a

Mortality, Morbidity and Health-Related Outcomes in Informal Caregivers Compared to Non-Caregivers: A Systematic Review.

A systematic overview of mental and physical disorders of informal caregivers based on population-based studies with good methodological quality is lacking. Therefore, our aim was to systematically summarize mortality, incidence, and prevalence estimates of chronic diseases in informal caregivers compared to non-caregivers. Following PRISMA recommendations, we searched major healthcare databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE and Web of Science) systematically for relevant studies published in the last 10 years (without language restrictions) (PROSPERO registration number: CRD42020200314). We included only

Caregiver distress in parkinsonism.

This study examined the frequency and degree of caregiver burden in persons with parkinsonism, a group of disorders with four primary symptoms that include tremor, rigidity, postural instability, and bradykinesia. We assessed associations between perceived caregiver burden and physical, cognitive, and functional impairments using well-established tools for persons with parkinsonism. The 49 individuals with parkinsonism ranged in age from 61 to 87 (mean = 75), while their caregivers (N = 49) ranged in age from 48 to 83 (mean = 70). The caregivers were predominantly either wives (82%) or daughte

New cohort of military servicemember and veteran caregivers: Care for the caregiver as an overlooked imperative.

Caregivers of wounded, ill, or disabled military servicemembers and Veterans play an essential yet underrecognized role in health care delivery. A new cohort of younger spouses, parents, and peers has emerged after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, assuming complex clinical, coordination, and advocacy responsibilities while facing substantial health, emotional, and financial risk. This column highlights the role of Nurse Practitioners in recognizing caregivers as secondary patients and advancing caregiver health as integral to patient-centered care. As Nurse Practitioners, we are educated to l

The Caregiving Career: Responses and Strategies of Caregivers, Care Partners, and Caretakers of Persons with Dementia.

Every minute, a family member begins their "caregiving career" with the primary responsibility of caring for someone with dementia. Their career may progress through in-home caregiving (i.e. caregivers), to partnering with a facility (i.e. care partners), to caretaking after bereavement (i.e. caretakers). Although each phase presents challenges that adversely affect one's health, responses to such challenges (i.e. stress, cognitions, and emotions) and strategies to manage them (i.e. resourcefulness) may vary across the career trajectory. Caregiver burden among caregivers of patients with depression: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a highly prevalent mental disorder with a global distribution. Informal caregivers are integral to the long-term care of individuals with depression. However, they frequently experience substantial caregiver burden, detrimentally impacting both caregiver well-being and patient prognosis. Despite the clinical significance of this issue, there is currently no systematic review or meta-analysis quantifying the overall magnitude of this burden and synthesizing its associated factors among informal caregivers of patients with depression. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to ass
