Pre-treatment consent framing shapes how laypeople evaluate CBT: a cross-cultural comparison of China and the United States.

People's understanding of psychotherapy influences their treatment expectations and engagement. Informed consent is often one of the first formal processes through which this understanding is shaped. Yet, little cross-cultural research has examined its impact on lay people's pre-treatment attitudes. This study investigated whether the perceived importance of common factors and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques varies across cultural contexts and informed consent framing. Chinese (n = 297) and U.S. (n = 303) participants with no prior therapy experience were randomly assigned to sta

Exploring physical literacy in children aged 8 to 12 years old: a cross-cultural comparison between China and Greece.

BACKGROUND: The concept of physical literacy (PL) has been advocated as a crucial determinant for increasing the quality and quantity of movement and physical activity (PA). Children's PL has been rarely compared across countries, although it has shown low levels in many countries. This study aimed to explore and compare children's PL from China and Greece. METHODS: A total of 327 Chinese (47.1% boys) and 295 Greek children (48.1% boys) aged 8 to 12 years participated in this study. Children's PL was objectively assessed by the Chinese and Greek version of the Canadian Assessment of Physical

The Griffiths Development Scales-Chinese (GDS-C): A cross-cultural comparison of developmental trajectories between Chinese and British children.

BACKGROUND: The Griffiths Mental Development Scales (GMDS) are used in many countries to assess the development of children from birth to 8 years. There is a need for accurate and culturally appropriate developmental assessment tools for Chinese children. Here, we adapted the GMDS for use in Chinese children and compare the developmental trajectories between Chinese and British children. METHODS: Children with typical development were recruited from 7 urban cities in China between 2009 and 2013. The Griffiths Mental Development Scales-Chinese (GDS-C) were adapted and used to assess the develo

A German Translation and Cross-Cultural Comparison of a Mobility Questionnaire (MobQues47) for Ambulant Children and Adolescents with Cerebral Palsy.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a nonprogressive neurodevelopmental disorder caused by brain damage occurring before or around birth. Individuals demonstrate a heterogeneous range of mobility limitations that must be monitored and quantified in order to initiate and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments. The validated Mobility Questionnaire (MobQues47), initially available in Dutch, measures the mobility difficulties experienced when carrying out 47 indoor and outdoor activities by ambulant children and adolescents with CP, as rated by their parents/caregivers. This study aimed to transl

Orthorexia Nervosa and its association with obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms: initial cross-cultural comparison between Polish and Italian university students.

There is limited evidence of a link between Orthorexia Nervosa (ON) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and no definitive conclusions can be drawn. The interplay between socio-cultural context and ON has been poorly investigated as well. Therefore, the objectives of the present study were: (1) to investigate the differences in ON and OCD symptoms and (2) to assess the relationship between ON and OCD symptoms among university students. Six hundred and sixty-six university students participated in the present study: 286 from Poland and 320 from Italy. No age, gender and marital status diffe

The Big Five Inventory-2 in Korea: Validation and Cross-Cultural Comparisons with the U.S. and Chinese Versions.

The Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2) has enjoyed global popularity due to its good balance of content coverage and brevity and has been officially translated into 12 languages in addition to the original English version. The current study aimed to further enhance the cultural accessibility of the BFI-2 by translating it into the Korean language and comprehensively validating the Korean version in two South Korean samples: working adults and college students. Across the two samples, the Korean BFI-2 demonstrated good reliability (e.g., test-retest reliability, Cronbach's alpha), construct validity
