Japan and its healthcare challenges and potential contribution of neonatal nurse practitioners.

Challenge has the potential to create opportunities for innovation. This applies to new developments aimed at enhancing existing systems of healthcare delivery. The development of the neonatal nurse practitioner's role in the United States is undoubtedly 1 such example of an innovation that was made in response to the challenge in neonatal healthcare delivery. This challenge and concomitant change was generated by a significant increase in neonatal patient needs, survival of smaller and sicker neonates, a rising acuity level, and the accompanying need to elevate the standard of healthcare for

Global evidence on the effectiveness of task-shifting and task-sharing strategies for managing individuals with multimorbidity: systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Task-shifting and task-sharing strategies show promise for managing chronic diseases especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), though their effectiveness in multimorbidity management remains unclear. This study synthesised evidence on task-shifting and task-sharing strategies globally and assessed the impact on core health outcomes in multimorbidity management. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of global studies evaluating task-shifting and sharing interventions for individuals with multimorbidity. Six databases, including PubMed, Em

A community and clinical collaboration to optimize HIV treatment and care for people with HIV in Australia-Solutions from the Beyond Undetectable symposium.

INTRODUCTION: Australia has made strong progress toward the UNAIDS 95:95:95 targets (UNAIDS, 2025). As of 2024, an estimated 92% of people with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Australia had been diagnosed, 97% of those diagnosed were receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 98% of those on treatment had achieved viral suppression (Kirby Institute, 2024). While these outcomes reflect a well-functioning HIV care continuum, diagnosis gaps persist, particularly among people born overseas, heterosexual men, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (Kirby Institute, 2024). 'Thinking for two': a case study of speech and language therapists working through assistants.

BACKGROUND: Many speech and language therapists (SLTs) in the UK work with speech and language therapy assistants, and the numbers of SLT assistants is expected to grow. There has been very little empirical investigation of how SLTs feel about this situation or the effect on working practices of working indirectly. AIMS: To investigate SLTs' opinions on working with SLT assistants in a small-scale research case study. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: The study design was a case study of five SLTs delivering intervention within a research intervention project. Prepared questionnaire and formal intervi

Knowledge Gaps in Pain Management Between Nurses and Nursing Assistants in a Tertiary Hospital in Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Pain is a universal human experience and a persistent challenge for health services. Its assessment and management require evidence-based competencies to ensure safe, person-centered care. In most health systems, patients with pain are cared for by both nursing professionals and nursing assistants depending on staff allocation, with assistants performing some delegated interventions. Previous studies have identified knowledge gaps among nursing personnel that may affect the quality of care. PURPOSE: compare the level of knowledge between nursing professionals and nursing assistant

Value Co-Creation Between Nurses and Generative Artificial Intelligence: A Grounded Theory Study.

BACKGROUND: The role of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in nursing is increasingly shifting from a support tool toward a collaborative partner. However, the mechanisms underlying nurse-GenAI value co-creation (N-GAIVC) remain undertheorized. AIM: To develop a theoretical framework for N-GAIVC. METHODS: This study used a Straussian grounded theory approach. Between January and April 2026, 27 clinical nurses and nurse managers from hospitals across China were recruited using purposive, snowball, and theoretical sampling. Semistructured in-depth interviews and online textual data fro

Prevention of early childhood caries in France, potential perspectives for interprofessional action: a scoping review.

Early childhood caries (tooth decays) is a severe oral health condition that develops under the age of six. In many countries, oral health (including cavity treatment) is provided solely by dentists, who work independently. This organizational structure results in missed opportunities to prevent illnesses that occur throughout the child's health pathway, from birth and even before. The article aims to describe existing strategies for interprofessionality in pediatric oral health, as well as the obstacles and facilitators to their implementation. A scoping review was conducted on PubMed, Web of

Professions, families, and control in the management of the cadaver organ donor.

In times of medical crisis, control over the treatment process is vested with the patient's attending physician. The role of the other members of the treatment team is clearly supporting of the physician while the patient's family exercises little or no influence over the treatment process. In certain "rare" events, the traditional roles are suspended and control of the process is, at lest temporarily, shifted to an outside group of health professionals. The process of cadaver organ donor donation is presented as an example of the suspension of traditional role responsibilities and the delegat

Coordinating Medication Information Across Primary and Specialized Care: An Ethnographic Study of Health Professionals' Work and Use of Digital Tools.

Coordination among health professionals across levels of care is essential for safe treatment, yet fragmented digital systems complicate the obtaining and sharing of patients' medication information. This ethnographic study explores how medication information is coordinated in everyday work and how tools are involved. We observed 145 hours of work and conducted 24 interviews with physicians, pharmacists, and nurses in Norwegian primary and specialized care. Data were analyzed thematically, informed by sociocultural and boundary work perspectives. We found that coordination is continuous, situa

Risk perception of blood transfusions - a comparison of patients and allied healthcare professionals.

BACKGROUND: Due to an increasing demand in health care services plans to substitute selective physician-conducted medical activities have become attractive. Because administration of a blood transfusion is a highly standardized procedure, it might be evaluated if obtaining a patient's consent for a blood transfusion can be delegated to allied healthcare professionals. Physicians and patients perceive risks of transfusions differently. However, it is unknown how allied healthcare professionals perceive risks of transfusion-associated adverse events. METHODS: Patients (n = 506) and allied healt

'You say you are a TB doctor, but actually, you do not have any power': health worker (de)motivation in the context of integrated, hospital-based tuberculosis care in eastern China.

BACKGROUND: In China, tuberculosis (TB) care, traditionally provided through the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), has been integrated into 'designated' public hospitals at County level, with hospital staff taking on delivery of TB services supported by CDC staff. Little is known about the impact of this initiative on the hospital-based health workers who were delegated to manage TB. Drawing on a case study of two TB 'designated' hospitals in Zhejiang province, we explored factors influencing hospital-based health workers' motivation in the context of integrated TB service delivery. METHODS:

Innovation - drugs and diagnostics.

The control of antibiotic resistance presents a complex and multifaceted challenge. Professional societies, governments and international agencies, including the WHO, have identified a strategy that emphasizes the importance of microbiological surveillance, monitoring antibiotic use, prudent prescribing, education of healthcare professionals and the public and encouraging the development of new drugs and other technologies. The flow of new classes of antibiotic has substantially declined at a time when resistance rates and new problems have increased significantly. The decline in prescribing r
