[Minimally invasive caries management in children: when to use what treatment].

Children are born with healthy mouths. The goal of primary prevention is to maintain this healthy situation. Starting primary prevention as early as possible, preferably at the moment of eruption of the primary teeth, is recommended. Estimating the caries risk, for example, with the help of a system such as the NOCTP method, is an important tool for deciding the check-up interval, bitewing interval and other care interventions. Prevention is always key. Active lesions may require another treatment, too, in addition to prevention. Inactive lesions as well as cleansable cavitated lesions do not

[Prevention and treatment of initial stage caries during orthodontic treatment].

Malocclusion is the third most common disease in the human oral cavity, closely behind caries and periodontal diseases. Along with the cultural and socio-economic progress, demands for orthodontic treatment is increasing year by year. However, the early stage caries, a most common complication in patients receiving orthodontic treatment using fixed appliances, has become a serious challenge to the prevention of dental caries and the esthetic outcome of orthodontic treatment. It deserves both dental workers and patients to pay attention and to take preventive and therapeutic measures on this is

Type 1 diabetes, glycemic traits, and risk of dental caries: a Mendelian randomization study.

Background: Regarding past epidemiological studies, there has been disagreement over whether type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is one of the risk factors for dental caries. The purpose of this study was to determine the causative links between genetic susceptibility to T1DM, glycemic traits, and the risk of dental caries using Mendelian randomization (MR) approaches. Methods: Summary-level data were collected on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of T1DM, fasting glucose (FG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting insulin (FI), and dental caries. MR was performed using the inverse-variance weighting (

[Hora est. The relationship between stress, salivary proteins and caries experience in children].

Dental caries is a major public health problem and untreated caries has serious consequences for children. Psychosocial factors have multiple consequences, among others on the composition of saliva. Therefore, this study investigated whether stress and various salivary protein levels are associated with dental caries experience in children. The activity of the Matrix Metalloproteinases MMP-8 and MMP-9 and the total proteolytic activity in saliva turned out to be indicators for the caries experience. Salivary Alpha-Amylase seems to be a protector and was a strong indicator for caries experience
