High-risk food recalls in the United States: Temporal trends and structural characteristics based on FDA enforcement data, 2012-2024.

BACKGROUND: Food recalls constitute a central risk management tool within the United States food safety system; however, the distribution of recall severity-particularly high-risk Class I recalls-across temporal and structural dimensions remains insufficiently characterized. METHODS: Food recall data from the Food Enforcement Reports issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 2012 and 2024 were analyzed. In accordance with FDA regulatory definitions, Class I recalls were treated as high-risk outcome events. Recall reasons, food categories, distribution scope, geographic reg

Pathogen-Food Category Combinations and Recall-Associated Patterns in US Microbiological Food Recalls, 2012-2024.

BACKGROUND: Microbiological food recalls are commonly summarized by overall counts, but differences among pathogen-food category combinations remain unclear. This study characterized pathogen-food category patterns and reported nationwide distribution in U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) microbiological recall records. METHODS: We analyzed FDA food enforcement records from 2012 to 2024 in openFDA. Microbiological recalls were identified using predefined screening rules and classified into five pathogens and 12 food categories. Frequencies, percentages, and descriptive cross-tabulations

Characterizing the phenomenon of radiation recall dermatitis.

Radiation recall represents the 'recalling' of an effect similar in appearance to that of an acute radiation reaction in a previously irradiated field. The recall is triggered by the administration of certain drugs days to years after the exposure to ionizing radiation. This review focuses almost exclusively on the skin manifestations of radiation recall to assemble the largest data base upon which to discuss this rare phenomenon. No absolute radiation dose threshold is apparent, but rather an interplay between dose and time before drug exposure seems to affect both the risk and speed of onset

Impact of angiotensin receptor blocker product recalls on antihypertensive prescribing in Germany.

In Germany, ~8 million patients take angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and 2.25 million of them valsartan. In 2018, contamination of generic ARBs with probable carcinogenic nitrosamines resulted in more than 30 recalls. The impact of such a huge recall has never been explored in Europe. We analyzed the utilization of valsartan, all ARBs, and other alternative antihypertensive drugs in Germany. We used our database of anonymized dispensing data from >80% of community pharmacies at the expense of the statutory health insurance (SHI) funds from January 2017 to December 2019. We analyzed 290.8

Recurrent recall of sunburn by methotrexate.

An unusual recall reaction of sunburn with methotrexate use has been previously reported. Heretofore, all reports have documented a single occurrence of this reaction in each patient. We report, for the first time, a patient who developed recurrent facial sunburn recalls while receiving methotrexate for psoriasis. This reaction is distinct from true photosensitivity. Photosensitivity is listed in the drug brochure for methotrexate. However, a review of the literature does not support true photosensitivity associated with methotrexate.

Radiation recall with anticancer agents.

Radiation recall is an acute inflammatory reaction confined to previously irradiated areas that can be triggered when chemotherapy agents are administered after radiotherapy. It remains a poorly understood phenomenon, but increased awareness may aid early diagnosis and appropriate management. A diverse range of drugs used in the treatment of cancer has been associated with radiation recall. As most data come from case reports, it is not possible to determine the true incidence, but to date the antineoplastic drugs for which radiation recall reactions have been most commonly reported include th

Docetaxel-induced photo-recall phenomenon.

Photo-recall phenomenon is a phototoxic eruption occurring on areas of previous ultraviolet-induced solar erythema following a systemic administration of a drug. It has been mostly described with methotrexate but remains rare with other antineoplastic drugs. We describe a case of docetaxel-induced photo-recall skin rash in a woman treated for a non-small-cell lung cancer. Although the patient has refused to receive a second infusion, chemotherapy can be carried on with photoprotection and the use of topical and/or systemic corticosteroids. In contrast, radiation recall is a well-known reaction

A New Index of Coordinated Posterior and Anterior Evoked EEG to Detect Recall Under Sedation - A Pilot Study.

EEG-based technologies may be limited in identifying recall under sedation (RUS). We developed a novel index, posteriorization/anteriorization (P/A) index, based on auditory evoked EEG signal and assessed whether it could differentiate between patients with or without RUS. Methods: EEG and BIS were sampled from 3 groups: 1. Patients undergoing sedation (n = 26); 2. Awake volunteers (n = 13, positive control for recall) 3. Patients undergoing general anesthesia (GA, n = 12, negative control for recall). In recovery, recall was assessed using the BRICE questionnaire. Of the 26 sedated patients,

Recurrent radiation recall dermatitis triggered by radiological procedures in a patient with breast cancer.

Radiation recall dermatitis is an acute inflammatory reaction that occurs on previously irradiated skin by usage of chemotherapeutic agents and other triggering drugs. The recall reaction is usually associated with drugs but may also occur following ultraviolet radiation. We report a patient with radiation recall dermatitis, triggered after imaging procedures that involved radiation.

Raclopride-induced motor consolidation impairment in primates: role of the dopamine type-2 receptor in movement chunking into integrated sequences.

Results obtained in patients with schizophrenia have shown that antipsychotic drugs may induce motor learning deficits correlated with the striatal type-2 dopamine receptors (D(2)R) occupancy. Other findings suggest that the role of the striatum in motor learning could be related to a process of "chunking" discrete movements into motor sequences. We therefore hypothesized that a D(2)R blocking substance, such as raclopride, would affect motor learning by specifically disrupting the grouping of movements into sequences. Two monkeys were first trained to perform a baseline-overlearned sequence (

Stress enhances retrieval of drug-related memories in abstinent heroin addicts.

Stress is associated with relapse to drugs after abstinence, but the mechanisms for this association are unclear. One mechanism may be that stress enhances abstinent addicts' recall of memories of drugs as stress relievers. This study assessed the effects of stress on free recall and cued recall of 10 heroin-related and 10 neutral words learned 24 h earlier by 102 abstinent heroin addicts. These participants were randomly assigned to three experiments that also assessed attention and working memory. Experiment 1 used a psychosocial stressor (Trier social stress test (TSST)) before testing for

The effect of intravenous premedication with lorazepam (ativan), pentobarbitone or diazepam on recall.

Sixty-nine patients undergoing regional anaesthesia were premedicated with either lorazepam (1, 2, 3 or 5 mg), diazepam (5 or 10 mg), pentobarbitone (50 mg) or placebo given i.v., on a double-blind, randomized basis. A simple yet rigorous protocol was used to test the effect of these drugs on anterograde recall. Lorazepam 3 and 5 mg was found to affect anterograde recall significantly. None of the other drugs tested affected recall.

The effect of zolpidem and zopiclone on memory.

The effect of 10 mg of zolpidem (ZLP) on memory function was evaluated in healthy male adults using word recall test, passage recall test, and Sternberg's memory scanning task. This study was carried out as a double-blind cross-over study with 7.5 mg of zopiclone (ZPC) and a placebo. No difference was noted between the active drugs and placebo in the number of words recalled from the word list presented before administration. No evidence of retrograde amnesia was suggested. However, encoding ability was slightly affected as indicated by a decrease in the number of words recalled from the list

Radiation Recall Pneumonitis During Systemic Treatment With Everolimus.

Radiation recall syndrome is an acute inflammatory reaction developing at anatomical sites of previously irradiated tissue, weeks to months after the completion of radiation therapy. The distribution pattern of inflammation typically involves, and remains limited to, the boundaries of prior radiation treatment fields. Several classical chemotherapy drugs have been reported to have the potential for causing radiation recall syndrome. With the increasing availability and expanding use of novel biologic and targeted therapy anticancer drugs, isolated reports of radiation recall syndrome secondary

Effectiveness of intervention on improvement of drug use among methadone maintained adults.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of three interventions (individual motivational interviewing, group motivational interviewing, or nurse-led hepatitis health promotion) in reducing drug use. A randomized, controlled trial was conducted with 256 methadone maintained moderate-to-heavy alcohol-using adults attending one of five MM outpatient clinics. Drug use in the overall sample was significantly reduced from baseline to 6-month follow-up, as assessed by a 30-day recall (p < 0.0001), with a trend apparent for 6-month recall (p = 0.09). The group and individual programs

Influence of verbal recall of a recent stress experience on anxiety and desire for cocaine in non-treatment seeking, cocaine-addicted volunteers.

It has long been postulated that stress increases the risk of drug abuse and relapse. The principal goal of this project was to evaluate the effects of verbal recall of a recent stress experience (specifically meaningful to each individual) on physiological and subjective measures in cocaine-addicted participants. Subjects described a recent stressful non-drug-related experience and a neutral non-stressful experience, and then completed mood and drug effect questionnaires, while heart rate and blood pressure were recorded. Participants (N = 25) were predominantly African American and male. As
