Blood has been shown to contain disease-associated misfolded prion protein (PrP(TSE)) in animals naturally and experimentally infected with various transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) agents, and in humans infected with variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). Recently, we have demonstrated PrP(TSE) in extracellular vesicle preparations (EVs) containing exosomes from plasma of mice infected with mouse-adapted vCJD by Protein Misfolding Cyclic Amplification (PMCA). Here we report the detection of PrP(TSE) by PMCA in EVs from plasma of mice infected with Fukuoka-1 (FU), an isolate fro

BACKGROUND: Exosomes (EXOs) are promising biomarker sources for liquid biopsy. Due to their low abundance in biofluids and the presence of non-target vesicle proteins during the isolation process, traditional methods such as ultracentrifugation (UC) are time-consuming, yield low purity, and can cause damage to EXOs. Achieving rapid, high-purity isolation remains a significant challenge. The magnetic beads (MBs) method is the most effective way to enhance EXO purity, but existing MBs face bottlenecks, including poor suspension stability, limited surface functionalization, slow magnetic response

Exosomes are small lipid bilayer vesicles, ranging from 30 to 150 nm in diameter, that are secreted by various cells and facilitate intercellular communication. They originate from the endosomal system and release their contents into the extracellular environment. These nanovesicles carry bioactive molecules, including nucleic acids, lipids, and predominantly proteins, influencing target cells and contributing to cell-to-cell interactions. Exosomes play a crucial role in both normal physiological functions and pathological conditions, including male and female reproductive disorders. Various p

Nano-sized extracellular vesicles enclosed by a lipid bilayer and secreted by various cell types including mesenchymal stem cells, exosomes act as natural transporters, carrying bioactive molecules such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that mediate intercellular communication. Exosomes influence a range of cellular processes, including immune modulation, tissue repair, and disease progression. Compared to whole-cell therapies, exosomes provide anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and regenerative effects with reduced risks linked to cellular components, such as infusion toxicity, immuno

Exosomes, known as extracellular vehicles (EVs), are found in biological fluids. They have the capability to carry and transfer signaling molecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins, facilitating intercellular communication and regulating the gene expression profile in target cells. EVs have the potential to be used as biomarkers in diagnosis, prognosis and also as feasible therapeutic targets. The available evidence suggests that exosomes play critical roles in the reproductive system, particularly during implantation, which is widely recognized as a crucial step in early pregnancy. Preeclampsia, poses significant risks to both maternal and fetal well-being. Exosomes released by the placenta play a crucial role in intercellular communication and are recognized as potential carriers of essential information for placental development. These exosomes transport a payload of proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids that mirror the placental microenvironment. This review delves into the functional roles of placental exosomes and its contents shedding light on their involvement in vascular regulation and immune modulation in normal pregnancy. Discernible changes are reported in the c

Exosomes are nanosized, lipid membrane vesicles secreted by cells, facilitating intercellular communication by transferring cargo from parent to recipient cells. This capability enables biological crosstalk across multiple tissues and cells. Extensive research has been conducted on their role in the pathogenesis of degenerative musculoskeletal diseases such as osteoarthritis (OA), a chronic and painful joint disease that particularly affects cartilage. Currently, no effective treatment exists for OA. Given that exosomes naturally modulate synovial joint inflammation and facilitate cartilage ma

Exosomes are lipid bilayer vesicles, 30-200 nm in diameter, that are produced by cells and play essential roles in cell-cell communication. Exosomes have been studied in several medical fields including dermatology. Hair loss, a major disorder that affects people and sometimes causes mental stress, urgently requires more effective treatment. Because the growth and cycling of hair follicles are governed by interactions between hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) and dermal papilla cells (DPCs), a better understanding of the mechanisms responsible for hair growth and cycling through exosomes may pr

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a complex autoimmune disorder that mainly affects children and adolescents. The elevated blood glucose level of patients with T1DM results from absolute insulin deficiency and leads to hyperglycemia and the development of life-threatening diabetic complications. Although great efforts have been made to elucidate the pathogenesis of this disease, the precise underlying mechanisms are still obscure. Emerging evidence indicates that small extracellular vesicles, namely, exosomes, take part in intercellular communication and regulate interorgan crosstalk. More im

Exosomes are thought to be released by all cells in the body and to be involved in intercellular communication. We tested whether neural exosomes can regulate the development of neural circuits. We show that exosome treatment increases proliferation in developing neural cultures and in vivo in dentate gyrus of P4 mouse brain. We compared the protein cargo and signaling bioactivity of exosomes released by hiPSC-derived neural cultures lacking MECP2, a model of the neurodevelopmental disorder Rett syndrome, with exosomes released by isogenic rescue control neural cultures. OBJECTIVE: Exosomes are small secreted membrane vesicles formed in the late endocytic compartments by inward budding. Interest in these extracellular vesicles and their role in atherosclerosis is growing, as they can affect multiple cellular processes that lead to lipid overload, cytokine secretion and cellular adhesion. Exosomes protect and transport lipids, proteins, and RNAs, fostering intercellular communication among different cell types involved in atherogenesis such as macrophages, endothelium and smooth muscle. Their molecular composition reflects their cell type of origin, but they sh

Hypoxia is characterized by low oxygen levels in the body or environment, resulting in various physiological and pathological changes. The brain, which has the highest oxygen consumption of any organ, is particularly susceptible to hypoxic injury. Exposure to low-pressure hypoxic environments can cause irreversible brain damage. Hypoxia can occur in healthy individuals at high altitudes or in pathological conditions such as trauma, stroke, inflammation, and autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, leading to severe brain damage and impairments in cognitive, learning, and memory functions. BACKGROUND: Bovine milk exosomes (BMEs) harbor regulatory proteins, lipids, and microRNAs. Consumption of an exosome- and RNA-depleted (ERD) diet elicited phenotypes compared with controls fed an exosome- and RNA-sufficient (ERS) diet in mice. All other ingredients were identical in the diets. ERD and ERS diets were prepared by substituting ultrasonicated and nonultrasonicated milk, respectively, for casein in the AIN-93G formulation.
OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to assess the effect of ultrasonication of milk on exosome content and bioavailability, and cargo content.
METHODS:

Exosomes (EXO) derived from dendritic cells (DC) and tumor cells have been used to stimulate antitumor immune responses in animal models and in clinical trials. However, there has been no side-by-side comparison of the stimulatory efficiency of the antitumor immune responses induced by these two commonly used EXO vaccines. In this study, we selected to study the phenotype characteristics of EXO derived from a transfected EG7 tumor cells expressing ovalbumin (OVA) and OVA-pulsed DC by flow cytometry. We compared the stimulatory effect in induction of OVA-specific immune responses between these

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles that mediate intercellular communication and, in cancer, carry cargo that both reflects the donor tumor cell and influences recipient cells within local and distant microenvironments. Exosomal proteins and microRNAs have been reported individually across many cancer types, but rarely compared on a common basis; in this review, previously reported molecules from eight cancer categories-blood, breast, colon, kidney, liver, lung, prostate, and stomach-were compiled from curated repositories and re-analyzed within a single functional framework. In total, 3

Exosomes are a pluripotent group of extracellular nanovesicles secreted by all cells that mediate intercellular communications. The effective information within exosomes is primarily reflected in exosomal cargos, including proteins, lipids, DNAs, and non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), the most intensively studied molecules. Cardiac resident cells (cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells) and foreign cells (infiltrated immune cells, cardiac progenitor cells, cardiosphere-derived cells, and mesenchymal stem cells) are involved in the progress of ventricular remodeling (VR) following myocardial

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is an autoimmune sequel of pharyngitis and rheumatic fever that leads to permanent heart valve damage, especially the mitral valves. The mitral valves, which are responsible for the binding of auto-antibodies during immune response generation, lead to valve scarring and eventually valves dysfunction. Recently, exosomes (EXOs), the nano-sized vesicles, which range in size from 30 to 150 nm, are reported in various cardiovascular physiological and pathological processes. These vesicles are found in several body fluids such as plasma, serum, and also in cell culture
