Out of 421 patients who had partial gastrectomy 20-25 years ago for gastric or duodenal ulcer, 108 were examined by endoscopy with multiple biopsy. In no case were the endoscopic appearances of the mucosae interpreted as malignant, though in 2 patients the clinical history suggest malignant disease. BACKGROUND: Owing to its relative rarity, the characteristics of gastric stump cancer (GSC) have not been fully understood. In this study, we clarified the detailed characteristics from a large cohort of GSC patients.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: For this retrospective cohort study from 1 hospital in Japan, we recruited 262 GSC patients who underwent surgery for GSC between 1984 and 2012. INTRODUCTION: Laparoscopic treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma is still a debated issue. In this paper, we retrospectively reviewed 3 cases of laparoscopic treatment of gastric remnant-stump adenocarcinoma. We analyzed the feasibility, the postoperative outcome, and the short-term results.

Gastric stump cancer (GSC) has distinct clinicopathological characteristics from primary gastric cancer. However, the detailed molecular and pathological characteristics of GSC remain to be clarified because of its rarity. Dysplasia of gastric stump mucosa in 35 cases was studied. Evaluation of the entero-gastric reflux index(EGRI) was carried out by a computer radioisotope scanning. OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical significance of the resection of the cardia and fundus for patients suffering from cardiac cancer of the gastric stump.

Thirty-five patients who had undergone gastric resection between two and five years earlier were included in the study. Atrophic chronic gastritis and Helicobacter pylori infection are considered possible causes of iron deficiency anemia, and sideropenic anemia is also frequent after subtotal gastrectomy.
