OBJECTIVE: To investigate the group B streptococcus (GBS) colonization rate and the relationship between vaginal colonization of GBS and the maternal and neonatal outcome.
METHODS: 3% TH selective broth media were used for culture of GBS. The vaginal samples were collected during different pregnant periods (before 20 weeks' gestation; 20-28 weeks; after 34 weeks' gestation) and other samples from different sites after labor (including neonatal throat, ear, umbilicus and placenta, umbilical blood, maternal blood, etc).

Classic hemophilia, (hemophilia A), is an X-linked hereditary bleeding disorder affecting half of the male offspring of female carriers. Prenatal diagnosis offers an option, namely to restrict abortions to hemophilic fetuses only, and thus retain the chance of bearing normal sons. Recently, the authors have made a prenatal diagnosis of hemophilia A in an obligate carrier with a male fetus at 24 weeks of gestation by pure fetal sampling and accurate factor VIII coagulant assay, which was repeatedly less than 1% at 28 weeks of gestation.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present pilot study was to determine associations between maternal Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) genotype, lipid levels during pregnancy, fetal growth, and placental pathology.
METHODS: In this case-control study, serum samples from pregnant women without hypertension who delivered small-for-gestational age (SGA) infants (n = 50) were matched on gestational age at sample collection with non-SGA infants (n = 100). Serum CPK was measured in 135 families with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and 19 with the Becker type (BMD). Increased CPK was found in 62% of the carriers of DMD and 62.5% of the BMD. Two certain carries of DMD and one of their daughters showed clinical signs of myopathy.
