Spectrally-Resolved Synergy in Photothermal Catalysis: A Temperature-regulated Transition of Hot-electron Transfer for Methanol Steam Reforming.

Photothermal catalysis promises to convert solar energy into fuels with the assistance of thermal energy, yet the synergy between light and heat remains poorly understood. Here, this work deconstructs this synergy in methanol steam reforming over Pt/TiO2. The catalyst achieves an H2 production rate of 688 mmol g-1 h-1 under UV/visible coupled illumination, driven by a nonlinear Arrhenius behavior. Spectral decoupling reveals a distinct wavelength-dependent thermal response under different temperatures. The UV band gap excitation of TiO2, although accelerating the generation of formaldehyde, re

Sensory analysis of the flavor profile of full immersion hot, room temperature, and cold brewed coffee over time.

With the growing popularity of cold brewed coffee comes a need for brewing efficiency while preserving the desirable flavor profile. Despite the wide use of full immersion brewing techniques, the effect of brew time on the dynamic sensory profiles of full immersion brewed coffee remains underexplored. Here, we investigated the relationship between coffee sensory quality and extraction dynamics, measured as Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Extraction (E) of full immersion brewed coffee at various roast levels, and brewing temperatures (4 °C, 22 °C and 92 °C), over brew time using a generic desc

Effects of Hot-Air Drying Temperature on Biochemical Quality, Drying Kinetics, and Predictive Modeling of Ziziphus jujuba Fruits.

Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is an important functional fruit with high levels of bioactive compounds. However, its high moisture content limits its postharvest shelf life. The biochemical properties of jujube fruits influenced by hot-air drying at 50, 60, and 70 °C were studied and predictive models were evaluated to optimize drying. The drying kinetics were modeled using the six classical thin-layer models and artificial neural network (ANN) approach. The Midilli-Kucuk model was the best classical model, and the ANN model showed the best predictive performance, with the RMSE values improve

Experimental investigation of hot steam temperature effects on physicochemical properties and mineralization efficiency in steel Slag-CO2 systems.

In the face of intensifying global warming, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies are increasingly recognized as critical pathways toward achieving carbon neutrality. Although alkaline steel slag exhibits significant carbon sequestration potential, traditional mineralization methods are limited by low mass transfer efficiency and rapid efficiency decay caused by pore blockage and active surface coverage. To address these limitations, this study proposed an innovative approach leveraging steam-mediated activation to restructure the physicochemical properties of steel slag

Vascular, inflammatory and perceptual responses to hot water immersion: Impacts of water depth and temperature in young healthy adults.

Repeated hot water immersion can improve cardiovascular health; however, the respective effects of distinct immersion protocols remain unclear. Twenty-two healthy adults completed three 30-min hot water immersion bouts of different water temperatures and immersion depths (40°C shoulder-deep immersion, 40-Shoulder; 42°C waist-deep immersion, 42-Waist; and 40°C waist-deep immersion, 40-Waist) in a randomised crossover design. Vascular, inflammatory and perceptual responses were collected via brachial and superficial femoral artery ultrasound, venous blood sampling and perceptual scales. Rectal t

Effects of Hot-Air Drying Temperatures on Quality and Volatile Flavor Components of Cooked Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba).

Hot-air drying is a key step for Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) onboard processing; however, few studies have explored the effects of different drying temperatures on the quality and flavor alternations of Antarctic krill. In this study, we investigated the effects of hot-air drying temperatures on the physicochemical properties and flavor of Antarctic krill. Sensory evaluation, as well as physical and chemical property tests, revealed that Antarctic krill treated with hot-air drying exhibited substantial changes in moisture status, lipid oxidation indices, and b* value. The sensory evalu

Temperature as a determining factor in the occurrence of Legionella sp. bacteria in hot water systems in hospitals and social welfare homes.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Water in installations in hospitals and social welfare homes (SWHs) should meet the requirements of the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the quality of water intended for human consumption and national regulations issued on its basis. At present, 60 species of bacteria of the genus Legionella sp. are known (of which 30 are considered as pathogenic for humans), and more than 80 serologic groups. The aim of the study was determination of the effect of temperature on contamination of hot water systems with Legionella sp. bacteria in buildings

Effects of ice slurry ingestion on body temperature and softball pitching performance in a hot environment: a randomized crossover trial.

BACKGROUND: Although softball players are often required to play in hot environments, scarce evidence is available regarding the effects of ice slurry ingestion on body temperature and pitching performance in softball pitchers in a hot environment. Thus, this study investigated the effects of ice slurry ingestion before and between innings on body temperature and softball pitching performance in a hot environment. METHODS: In a randomized crossover design, seven heat-acclimatized amateur softball pitchers (four males and three females) completed simulated softball games consisting of 15 best-

On the problems related to natural wet bulb temperature indirect evaluation for the assessment of hot thermal environments by means of WBGT.

This paper deals with the indirect evaluation of the natural wet bulb temperature, t (nw), one of the two quantities forming the basis of the well-known wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) index, considered worldwide to be a suitable and user-friendly tool for the preliminary assessment of hot thermal environments. This quantity can be measured by a wet bulb thermometer (a temperature sensor covered with a wetted wick naturally ventilated) or, if this is not available, calculated from other microclimatic parameters (i.e. the air temperature, the globe temperature, the air velocity, and the humid

Is cold the new hot in sudden unexpected death in epilepsy? Effect of low temperature on heart rate of rats with epilepsy.

Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the commonest cause of seizure-related mortality in people with refractory epilepsy. Several risk factors for SUDEP are described; however, the importance of including low temperatures as risk factor for SUDEP was never explored. Based on this, the aim of this study was to evaluate the heart rate of rats with epilepsy during low temperature exposure. Our results showed that low temperature clearly increased the heart rate of rats with epilepsy. Taken together, we concluded that exposure to low temperatures could be considered important risk factor

Rheological Properties and Process Temperature Prediction for the Hot Melt Extrusion of Artesunate with Soluplus®/Span®20.

The Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) are highly sensitive molecules and generally have low water solubility and must have their biological performance preserved and enhanced by any process. Hot-melt Extrusion (HME) is one of the preferred methods of preparing Amorphous Solid Dispersions (ASD) for poorly soluble APIs. For HME, the Temperature Profile of Extrusion (TPE) is fundamental to predicting the processability of the mixture among API, polymer, and other ingredients. Dynamic rheological studies can determine the initial TPE from the Soft Point of Mixture (SPM) and the Initial Fusio

Associations of household factors, hot water temperature, and chlorine residual with Legionella occurrence in single-family homes in New Jersey.

Only 4 % of reported Legionnaires' disease (LD) cases are outbreak-associated and the remaining 96 % are sporadic, for which no known source of Legionella is identified. Although outbreaks of LD are linked to cooling towers, decorative fountains, spas and hot tubs, and other sources, the drivers of sporadic LD are less known. Residential premise plumbing is likely an important source of aerosol exposure and there are unique features of premise plumbing which could lead to proliferation of Legionella. A sampling study of Legionella in single-family homes was undertaken in NJ from 2020 to 2021 w

Dynamic Softening and Hardening Behavior and the Micro-Mechanism of a TC31 High Temperature Titanium Alloy Sheet within Hot Deformation.

TC31 is a new type of α+β dual phase high temperature titanium alloy, which has a high specific strength and creep resistance at temperatures from 650 °C to 700 °C. It has become one of the competitive candidates for the skin and air inlet components of hypersonic aircraft. However, it is very difficult to obtain the best forming windows for TC31 and to form the corresponding complex thin-walled components. In this paper, high temperature tensile tests were carried out at temperatures ranging from 850 °C to 1000 °C and strain rates ranging from 0.001 s-1 to 0.1 s-1, and the microstructures bef

Role of hot water temperature and water system use on Legionella control in a tertiary hospital: An 8-year longitudinal study.

Although measures to minimize Legionella colonization in sanitary hot water installations are well established, there is little evidence of their long-term effectiveness in hospital buildings. During an 8-year period, hot water in a large hospital building was sampled monthly in areas with suitable dimensioning and recirculation and in areas with dead legs and low-use taps. In the former areas, the percentage of Legionella-negative samples was 83.2% when the temperature was ≥55%, 64.9% when between 50.1 °C and 54.0 °C, and 51.6% when ≤50 °C (p for trend <0.001). Effect of Hot Water Bottles on Body Temperature during Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Dogs under General Anesthesia: A Retrospective Study.

Prevention of hypothermia induced by anesthesia and enhanced by low environmental temperatures is difficult in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations in dogs as forced warming devices, including magnetic materials, are not acceptable for use in the MRI room. A hot water bottle (HWB) can be carried into an MRI examination room and can contribute to the prevention or attenuation of hypothermia. Here, we retrospectively investigated the effects of HWB on body temperature during MRI examinations in dogs under general anesthesia (GA). From anesthesia records of the Veterinary Medical Teachin

Finite volume analysis of temperature effects induced by active MRI implants: 2. Defects on active MRI implants causing hot spots.

BACKGROUND: Active magnetic resonance imaging implants, for example stents, stent grafts or vena cava filters, are constructed as wireless inductively coupled transmit and receive coils. They are built as a resonator tuned to the Larmor frequency of a magnetic resonance system. The resonator can be added to or incorporated within the implant. This technology can counteract the shielding caused by eddy currents inside the metallic implant structure. This may allow getting diagnostic information of the implant lumen (in stent stenosis or thrombosis for example). The electro magnetic rf-pulses du
