Juniper (Juniperus communis L.) is a northern coniferous plant generally used as a spice and for nutritional purposes in foods and drinks. It was previously reported that juniper extract (JE) affects p53 activity, cellular stress, and gene expression induced cell death in human neuroblastoma cells. Therefore, the effects of juniper on p53 and Akt signaling was examined further in A549 lung, 22RV1 and DU145 prostate, and HepG2 liver cancer cells using Western blot, confocal microscopy, and MTT analysis. We found that juniper simultaneously decreased cell viability, activated the p53 pathway, an

BACKGROUND: Diagnosis and allergen-specific immunotherapy for Mediterranean allergy rely on extracts standardized to group-1 allergens, such as Cup a 1 from Cupressus arizonica, potentially overlooking interspecies variability. The native species Juniperus oxycedrus, widespread in Spain, may contribute to sensitization, but its clinical relevance and allergen repertoire remain poorly characterized.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize and compare the allergen and IgE-binding protein composition of J. oxycedrus and C. arizonica pollen extracts and assess their sensitizing relevance in Spain.

The most recent glacial cycles of the Pleistocene affected the distribution, population sizes, and levels of genetic structure of temperate-forest species in the main Mexican mountain systems. Our objective was to investigate the effects these cycles had on the genetic structure and distribution of a dominant species of the "mexical" vegetation across North and Central America. We studied the genetic diversity of Juniperus deppeana, a conifer distributed from the Southwestern United States to the highlands of Central America. We combined information of one plastid marker and two nuclear marker
