This article analyzes the gap between the defectological narrative of care and the reality of institutional life for children with learning disabilities in the Soviet Union of the 1930s. It shows that, under Stalin, the Soviet discipline of defectology entailed a promise of correction and social integration that aligned well with the official rhetoric of triumphant socialism and that incorporated new, specific ideological meanings into its long-standing narrative of care. BACKGROUND: Undernutrition poses a major threat for the growth and development of children in remote island regions of Bangladesh.
METHODS: This study investigated the prevalence and risk predictors of undernutrition among children under five in the island regions of Bangladesh. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 13 unions across two islands, with a random sample of 549 children.

This study's purpose was to assess the agreement between management and employee ratings of organizational policies and practices (OPP) involved in the return to work process following carpal tunnel surgery. As a part of the prospective community-based Maine Carpal Tunnel II Study, 65 manager and employee pairs completed a questionnaire tapping four OPP dimensions. people oriented culture, safety climate, ergonomic practices, and disability management. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common hereditary enzymopathy among Southeast Asians. We studied G6PD mutations in 108 migrant Cambodian laborers in Chanthaburi province and cord blood samples from 107 Cambodian newborns at Buriram Hospital. Thirty-one (26.1%) of 119 Cambodian males and three of 96 (3.1%) females were G6PD deficient and were assayed for G6PD mutations. Based on the follow-up evaluation of 350 patients in whom lumbar disc herniation was treated by anterior discectomy and interbody fusion from 1955 to 1982, 94.3% of the patients obtained bony union and justified the principle of interbody stabilization of the spine.
