Chronic synovitis often occurs in people with haemophilia. Untreated chronic haemophilic synovitis affects the metabolism of chondrocytes, thus leading to haemophilic arthropathy. A recently introduced therapeutic protocol includes radiation synovectomy (RS), a safe and cost-effective therapeutic method, which has given satisfactory results in 75% of haemophiliacs with chronic hypertrophic synovitis. Mathematical efficiency calibrations for the specific matrices such as honey and borosilicate filters are performed. Their reliability is experimentally tested. Using a radioisotope technique the reabsorption of creatinine from normal, inflamed and chronically obstructed bladders of rabbits was investigated. This work focuses on studying concentration distribution of 222Rn radioisotope in a granite processing plant. Using Computational Fluid Dynamic Techniques (CFD), the exposure of the workers to radiation was assessed and, in order to minimise this exposure, different decontamination scenarios using ventilation were analysed. Mercury deposition histories have been scarcely documented in the southern hemisphere. A sediment core was collected from the ecologically important estuarine floodplain of the Berg River (South Africa). We establish the concentration of Hg in this (210)Pb-dated sediment core at <50 ng g(-1) Hg(T) throughout the core, but with 1.3 ng g(-1) methylmercury in surface sediments.
